And now, from California, that most liberal of states where Berkeley,
liberalism and atheism thrive, comes a ruling by a small 3-man panel of
federal judges (who voted 2 against 1) that the words “under God” in the
pledge of allegiance to the flag are unconstitutional!
A lawsuit was brought by an atheist whose daughter, he said, was “forced” by
her school to recite the pledge of allegiance with those hated words
included. The daughter was merely a prop for one Michael (what a name for an
atheist!) Newdow, who has been fighting to have the words “In God We Trust”
taken off of our money for many years.
The truth be told, his daughter was calmly reciting the pledge with her
classmates. When questioned on Fox Cable News, Newdow bristled when asked
about his daughter. “Don’t bring my daughter into this!” he snapped. The
interviewer just as abruptly said, “You were the one who brought your
daughter into it.”
A recent poll revealed that 86 percent of Americans believe the words “under
God” should stay in, while eleven percent said they should be omitted. Three
percent “didn’t know.”
The words were added to the pledge of allegiance by the late President
Dwight D. Eisenhower at a time when “godless Communism and atheism” was on
every American’s mind.
The expression “In God We Trust” which appears on coins and bills was
designated as the U.S. National Motto by Congress in 1956. However, it
originated as an inscription on US coins during the Civil War, and appeared
in a slightly different form in Francis Scott Key’s poem which became our
Today, the liberal courts face a dilemma. While national outrage boils and
seethes over this latest ruling, the US Supreme Court may be facing an
embarrassing decision, unless the full Ninth Circuit panel overturns the two
federal judges’ decision. After all, it was the Supreme Court which struck
down prayers at school graduation ceremonies in 1992, and ruled against
student-led prayers at football games in 2000. The court said such prayers
had “the improper effect of coercing those present to participate in an act
of religious worship.” Just how any one individual was “coerced” was not
clear. All any dissenter has to do is stand silently while others pray.
Now, if the current case of “Newdow vs. California” reaches the U.S. Supreme
Court, the court may find itself faced with having to reverse its own
previous rulings! That is, if the court listens to, and gives in to
In an act of defiance, the U.S. House of Representatives met on the capitol
steps to loudly recite the pledge of allegiance, which was reminiscent of
their singing of “God Bless America” on those same steps the day after the
twin trade towers came down. Even liberal Democrats were outraged. Senators
Daschle, Lieberman and Byrd all roundly disagreed with the court’s ruling.
God’s people should not be at all surprised at this latest attempt by an
atheist to remove all mention of God from the public conscience. After all,
Isaiah predicted, “The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment
in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein
shall not know peace.
“Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us: we
wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in
“We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we
stumble at noon day as in the night; we are in desolate places as dead men.
“We roar all like bears, and mourn sore like doves [millions whine, weep and
wail over their problems, blaming everyone and everything but themselves!]:
we look for judgment, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off
“For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify
against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities,
we know them;
“In transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our
God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart
words of falsehood.
“And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for
truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.
“Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey:
and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment”
(Isaiah 59:8-15). There can be no better description of the political,
economic, social and religious climate of the United States.
The prophet Zephaniah, using Jerusalem as a type of the peoples of Israel,
wrote, “Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city!
“She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in
the LORD; she drew not near to her God.
“Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves;
they gnaw not the bones till the morrow.
“Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: her priests have polluted
the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law.
“The just LORD is in the midst thereof; he will not do iniquity: every
morning doth he bring his judgment to light, he faileth not; but the unjust
knoweth no shame” (Zephaniah 3:1-5).
Strangely, it is “NOMINAL CHRISTIANS” who are so outraged that the appeals
court ruled against the pledge containing “under God,” when it is the
CORNERSTONE of the professing Christian world that GOD’S LAW IS DONE AWAY!
This is precisely why Paul predicted, “This know also, that in the last days
perilous times shall come.
“For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud,
blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
“Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent,
fierce, despisers of those that are good,
“Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn
away” (2 Timothy 3:1-5). Yes, millions have a “form” of godliness; of
religion. Little do they know that their prayers and protestations go no
higher than the ceiling or the lights of the stadium. God simply does not
hear sinners, and does not hear the prayers of those who continually trample
underfoot His righteous, holy laws!
America clings to a “form” of godliness, but DENIES THE TEN COMMANDMENTS!
People give lip service to God. They “praise” God. They “worship” God and
His Son, Jesus Christ. Or so they think. Yet, Jesus Christ said, “...why
call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46). He
also said, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into
the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in
heaven” (Matthew 7:21).
When a young nobleman asked Jesus Christ what he needed to DO to receive
salvation, Jesus Christ did not answer him the way thousands of professing
Christian ministers would
have answered him. They would have said, “Why, young man, don’t you know
there is nothing you must DO to receive salvation? You must only BELIEVE!
BELIEVE on me, and you shall be saved!” But Jesus Christ said, “...if thou
wilt enter into life, keep the commandments!” (Matthew 19:17). Christ went
on to describe the TEN commandments, insuring the young man knew exactly
what He was talking about.
Long, long ago, the Supreme Court ruled that pornography was not against the
law. From the time of Earl Warren, and long before, the highest court in the
land has time and time again handed down decisions which are absolutely
outrageous in the sight of God, and when measured by scripture.
Patriotic Americans need not be surprised when their judges render stupid,
unreasonable rulings. God says, “He leadeth counsellors away spoiled, and
maketh the judges fools” (Job 12:17). A hedonistic nation; a nation which is
soft, self-indulgent; a nation whose families are in shambles; a nation
which sanctions the murder of millions of the unborn, which wallows in
pornography, violence and crime; a nation which wails against the death
penalty for murderers; a nation of gay rights, animal rights, wacko
environmentalists (whose enforced legislation has resulted in gigantic wild
fires) and white collar crooks who steal more money than the total GNP of
two thirds of the nations of the world should not be surprised when foolish
judges hand down blatantly wrong decisions.
Nevertheless, Mr. Newdow may find out that his attack on our pledge of
allegiance has resulted in another national burst of patriotism, and, if not
a return to the true God, at least a momentary reawakening of the “FORM” of
religion extant in America.
Shockingly, after he created a nationwide furor; outrage from the federal
government to the classroom and churches, the judge who ruled the pledge of
allegiance was "unconstitutional" has now placed his ruling "on hold!" This
is blatant proof that the judge was not necessarily ruling because of his
own convictions. He has obviously reacted due to public outcry; to pressure!
Therefore, his allegedly vaunted judiciary opinions are exposed as nothing
more than situation ethics; bending to the current winds! What a shameful
