CAIR Condemns Michael Savage for
Anti-Muslim Tirade
Radio On-line
Talk Radio Network-syndicated Michael Savage was condemned by an Islamic
civil rights and advocacy group today, calling on radio listeners of all
faiths to boycott Savage's program over his recent "anti-Muslim tirade."
In a release, Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations
(CAIR) said Savage screamed attacks on Muslims, Islam and the Quran
during his October 29 show.
In the release, CAIR included these remarks from Savage: "I'm not gonna
put my wife in a hijab. And I'm not gonna put my daughter in a burqa.
And I'm not gettin on my all-fours and praying to Mecca. And you could
drop dead if you don't like it. You can shove it up your pipe. I don't
wanna hear anymore about Islam. I don't wanna hear one more word about
Islam. Take your religion and shove it up your behind. I'm sick of you."
In October, Savage was condemned by the San Francisco Board of
Supervisors for on-air comments. The Board called Savage's remarks about
alien students fasting in support of illegal aliens to be "symbolic of
hatred and racism," when he quipped: "I would say, let them starve to
death, then that solves the problem."
That was the Board's second attempt at a resolution to condemn Savage
for his criticism of illegal aliens in the U.S. The previous attempt was
brought forth by Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval in August, but it failed to
secure the required unanimous consent for expedited action by one vote.
Responding to the Board's actions, Mark Masters, CEO of Talk Radio
Network, stated, "It is unbelievable to me that a city that purportedly
prides itself on tolerance could be so intolerant of Michael's freedom
of speech. This is how he makes his living and they would try to take
this away from him."
He continued, "Savage is well know for using satire and ridicule to
illustrate his political points, and clearly no more actually intended
the death of fasting protesters by this quip than would a parent
responding to a child threatening to refuse to eat vegetables with the
statement 'so starve to death.'"
