“Another Day, Another Lie”

If you are reading this, I guess we're still here
Santa Rosa Gazette

Well, the scheduled rapture, the one prophet Harold Camping, said would happen this past weekend, didn't happen.

Either he was wrong, or we were all "left behind."

Now we're not calling anyone a non-believer, but lets look at some pretty interesting facts.

Camping collected lots of money on this, his second missed prediction. (We believe the Bible says if anyone misses a single prediction, they are a fasle prophet, but that's a debate for another time.)

It is hard to say who is the bigger fool, the "prophet" with his erred prediction or all the people who sent him $21-million plus. Our guess is...the "prophet." What is in people's hearts when they give is likely to be what matters most - not if the cause to which they were giving proves to be true or false.

If recollection serves, it was Oral Roberts who only needed $8-million to keep the Lord from "calling him home."

The last thing we want to knock is religion, but the words in Matthew 24:36 should stick in your mind, “no one knows the day or the hour…”

And this wasn't Camping's first rodeo with a revelation.

Back in September of 1994 he did the same thing involving the day of Sept. 6, but blamed that blunder on a mathematical error.

What is so bad is the fact that several people spent all of their money on preparations and donations to this prophet.

In many cases these were dollars that could not be sparred or involved their life savings. If this had been the actual rapture, we're not sure why Camping would need the money from these folks. Theoretically, he wouldn't have been around to spend it. Unless, he knew all along he'd have ample opportunity to enjoy all the green.

There are many criminal acts, for which people are punished and this should be one of them, then again, this is a regligious matter and there's that line about "vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord."

This panic or swarm of messages during all of this was mindful of what one could have experience if they followed the late Jim Jones and the tragedy in Jonestown.

For lack of a better term to describe what happened with Camping, Roberts, or even others who had multi-million dollar religious empires, they are being sucked in by the Pied Piper.

Now this may sound harsh to some, but we are not talking about how some felt in the past of how the world was going to end with Rock and Roll music, kids wearing jeans, or even kissing in public.

There are some that are expecting the world to end because there is a Democrat in the White House, while others think it will end if a Republican is elected in 2012.

These are radical exaggerations, but these are some examples.

Here is something else for you to ponder:

Today, there's a battle ground of religion and thus it has been for a few years now.

The players are the ACLU and the Liberty Counsel, each of which could not exist without the other.

The loser in all of this? Our children.

As the legal fees continue to mount and build the coffers of both groups are filling with donations.

In Kentucky, The ACLU and the Liberty Counsel have been battling over the Ten Commandments since 1980.

It might sound bad to some, but it would be a great time for people like Camping, members of the ACLU and the Liberty Counsel to get real jobs instead of creating a world of hate and fear.

It is criminal that some are feeding off of our fears while we're all just trying to get by.

We suspect God has a special place set aside for those who tried to prey off fear and spread fasle information. Still, the sheep will quickly follow the next person to rise up and announce the day and hours of the end of the world.
