Rumsfeld Threatens Iran with Military Action

Berlin--US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said that his country will use military action against Iran if Tehran persists in developing its nuclear program for peaceful ends, the German financial newspaper Handelsblatt reported Monday.

In statements to the newspaper during his visit to Germany for the Munich security conference, Rumsfeld said that a war against Iran is among the options on the table.

On Saturday, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors approved a draft resolution presented by the US and the European troika (Great Britain, Germany and France) to take the Iranian case to the UN Security Council.

Tehran remains saying that its nuclear program only aims peaceful purposes.

The Iranian news agency IRNA quoted President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as saying that their peaceful nuclear technology is the best achievement of Iranian youth and scholars and the access to high economic and social aims is impossible without it.
