Black Friday, Small Business Saturday reported as ‘mixed bag’

“It’s a mixed bag,” said Pam Hume, executive director of MainStreet Libertyville, about how local businesses fared on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday.

Hume surveyed about 10 businesses to check-in on how they did this Thanksgiving weekend compared to previous years.

“Some were saying it was not so great, but they were busy pre-Thanksgiving, and it depended on the type of stores,” Hume said. “Two or three said it was one of the best Black Fridays and best weekends they’ve had.”

In addition to Black Friday, area businesses were promoting Small Business Saturday in order to draw shoppers away from big box stores to the mom and pop shoppes in Libertyville.

“I would say the idea of shopping downtown and small business, that model will hopefully kick in, but this was the first year and hopefully people will start to come down more and more,” Hume said.
