GREECE'S MILITARY CONTINUES PROCUREMENT PLANS

ATHENS -- Despite a review by the Defense Ministry, Greece's military has proceeded on plans for procurement for all of its services.

The Hellenic Army, Navy and Air Force have submitted operational requirements to the General Staff for review. The review was meant to set priorities for Greece's military over the latter half of the decade.

Athens has spent more than $3 billion over the last four years in procurement programs for all services. They include AH-64D and NH-90 helicopters, the F-16 multi-role fighter, Leopard-2 main battle tanks and new frigates and upgrades.

The General Staff plans to set priorities for the military for a procurement plan from 2006 and 2010. The plan will then be relayed to the Government Council in November 2004.
