Extremist Jews plot to takeover of
Jerusalem holy site Aljazeera.com "We must conquer the 'Temple Mount' to abort the withdrawal plan", said one participant In an attempt aimed at sabotaging Ariel Sharon’s planned Gaza withdrawal, Jewish extremists are plotting to take over a holy site in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem, an Israeli TV station reported Wednesday. Channel Two aired a video showing a group of rabbis and far-right extremists, during their meeting in the Jewish Quarter of occupied Jerusalem, plotting to bring as much people as possible to occupy the Noble Sanctuary which the Jews call the 'Temple Mount'. The move might spark outrage and violence throughout the Middle East, according to Channel Two, as the site is in the region of the Al Aqsa Mosque. "We must bring 100,000 people to the site,” said a rabbi identified as Chen Eliahu in the video of the meeting. "We must conquer the Temple Mount to abort the withdrawal plan. If 50,000 people go to the Temple Mount, our Father in heaven will see and the (Israeli) institutions will not be able to remain indifferent," said another participant. Also during the meeting, the participants discussed whether to stage the action before or after the start of the Israeli settlers and troops’ withdrawal from Gaza, due to be launched in July. According to the report, extremist Jews will hold a "dress rehearsal" on the Temple Mount, or the Jerusalem mosques complex, the third holiest site for Muslims, in three weeks time. Dozens of police reinforcements were deployed near the compound last month, fearing possible attacks by Jewish extremists, who might try to sabotage the Prime Minister’s Gaza plan. Insulting practices Meanwhile, Sheikh Tayseer Al-Tamimi, the Palestinian chief Islamic judge, condemned as insulting and undignified the Israeli practices at the Ibrahimi Mosque, saying that the Israeli soldiers are forcing Palestinians who come to pray, to strip before entering the Mosque. "The Israeli practices were insulting and undignified, they (the Israelis) were ordering every one to strip, including the employees of the Mosque", Tamimi said. "Al-Khalil was and will remain an Islamic city, and the Ibrahimi Mosque was and will remain for Muslims, and the Jews have no right in it", Tamimi added. "I call on the Arab and Muslim leaders and the international community, as well, to stop the continued Israeli violations against the Muslim and Christian sacred shrines", said. "I encourage Al-Khalil inhabitants to continuously perform their prayers in the Ibrahimi Mosque to protect it against any Israeli criminal plan", Tamimi emphasized. |
