Justin Trudeau, who promised “sunny ways” as he won an election on a wave of public fatigue with an incumbent Conservative government, is now facing his darkest and most uncertain political moment as he attempts to defy the odds – and a bitter public – to win a rare fourth term.

The Canadian prime minister appears to have ignored both the demands of a handful of his own MPs calling for him to resign and threats from a separatist party looking to unravel his party’s tenuous hold on power.

Nearly two dozen backbench Liberal MPs signed a letter last week calling for the prime minister to step down amid fears within the party that his unpopularity could lead to a crushing electoral defeat in the coming months. The letter was separate from a “code red” petition to grassroots party supporters calling for a secret ballot vote on Trudeau’s leadership.

]]> The letter details instances where ballots were not delivered to officials on time due to USPS delays, with other cases where ballots delivered on time were not postmarked and unable for counting.

The U.S. Postal Service will play a large role in this upcoming election, but potentially not a good one, state and local election officials suggested in a letter on Wednesday.

The letter from the National Association of Secretaries of State and the National Association of State Election Directors warned that problems with the postal service might disenfranchise voters in the upcoming election.

Addressed to the head of the United States Postal Service Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, the letter warns that he has not fixed the persistent deficiencies seen in the system. As recent as the primary season that played out this summer, the letter says that local election officials across the U.S. have seen a worrying trend in postal operations’ ability to deliver mail on time.
