Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has today been arrested on his 66th birthday and is in custody after a raid on his new Sandringham home.

Thames Valley Police held the eighth in line to the British throne on suspicion of misconduct in public office this morning.

The Daily Mail was the first to reveal that plain-clothes police in six unmarked vehicles had arrived at Wood Farm, where Andrew now lives, at 8am this morning.

US raises bounty on Venezuela’s Maduro to $50 mn

Washington (AFP) – The United States doubled its bounty on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro — who faces federal drug trafficking charges — to $50 million on Thursday, a move Caracas described as “pathetic” and “ridiculous”.

Washington, which does not recognize Maduro’s past two election victories, accuses the South American country’s leader of leading a cocaine trafficking gang.

“Today, the Department of Justice and State Department are announcing a historic $50 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Nicolas Maduro,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a video on social media.

“He is one of the largest narco-traffickers in the world and a threat to our national security.”

“People are now seeing how serious the situation is,” the impeached president told the gathering, according to one lawmaker present, Yoon Sang-hyun.

Donald Trump is hunkering down in Florida ahead of his widely anticipated arrest this week on charges stemming from an investigation into a $130,000 (£106,000) payment to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016.

He would be the first US president to face criminal charges.

What is Trump accused of?

In 2016, adult film star Stormy Daniels contacted media outlets offering to sell her account of what she said was an adulterous affair she had with Donald Trump in 2006.

Mr Trump’s team got wind of this, and his lawyer Michael Cohen paid $130,000 to Ms Daniels to keep quiet.

This is not illegal. However, when Mr Trump reimbursed Mr Cohen, the record for the payment says it was for legal fees. Prosecutors say this amounts to Mr Trump falsifying business records, which is a misdemeanour – a criminal offence – in New York.

Imran Khan: Clashes as Pakistan police try to arrest opposition leader

Supporters of Pakistan’s main opposition leader Imran Khan have clashed with police outside his home as officers try to arrest him.

Police fired tear gas shells to disperse the supporters, who threw stones and bricks.

There is a tense situation outside the compound, in the city of Lahore, as police try to force their way in.

He is facing allegations he unlawfully sold state gifts while in office. He says the case is politically motivated.

Police have made previous attempts to arrest him, but Mr Khan, 70, told the BBC he thought they were determined to put him behind bars this time.

“I’m mentally prepared that I’m going to be spending my night in a cell,” he said. “I don’t know how many nights, but I’m all prepared for that.”
