Greetings from Tyler,

At this hour, talks go on with Iran. I don’t know whether all these talks will do any good. Arabs are nice people, but you don’t want to get on their bad side.

The media is growing more bold in their criticism of Donald Trump. I wouldn’t be too quick to jump. So far, I think he’s ahead of the media. He tells them after the fact. He never gives them a chance to ambush him. Those idiots never give up! They just make up a new story you hadn’t thought of. The media, excepting those that attend press conferences, is against him. They never miss a chance to poke fun. So far, at least, he’s having the last laugh.

Trump signed the agreement to agree. Good luck. I doubt it’s final. Gas prices are supposed to come down, otherwise we’d never know we’d been in a war. I don’t know what kind of leverage we have, we’ve already destroyed everything. We’d hoped another faction would come to power, maybe friendly? But it doesn’t look like that will happen. I guess we’d better get used to the idea of Iran being an enemy.

Canada is cratering, and you can read all about it. They’ve never had the strength or resolve of the United States. They’ve let every Tom, Dick and Harry come in and at this point I don’t think we’d want it. How Canadians are putting up with the insults coming from the Oval, I don’t know. The media is largely against Trump, you don’t need me to tell you that. They are criticizing everything he does and thinks. He doesn’t care.

They’re chasing us around about AI. They say that pollsters are asking AI instead of the people. That’s a good way to get steered wrong.

Markets are about 7 moves ahead of the investor, they claim. Oil is coming down, now that we’ve paid penance. Maybe we won’t feel so guilty every time we fill up the car.

You hardly hear anything about the Ukraine war. First we were on Zelensky’s side, then Trump kicked him out of the White House. I don’t know what to make of it, but I don’t like Zelensky. He had the misfortune of Donald Trump’s presidency, and doesn’t know how to handle it. Ukraine has hit Russia with missiles and the other shoe has yet to drop.

Elon Musk said Friday that his AI company, xAI, will debut its technology on Saturday.

“Tomorrow, xAI will release its first AI to a select group,” Musk posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “In some important respects, it is the best that currently exists.”

The AI startup, which Musk announced in July, seeks to “understand the true nature of the universe,” according to its website, and Musk seems to be setting it up to compete with companies like OpenAI, Google and Anthropic, which are behind leading chatbots like ChatGPT, Bard and Claude. In the spring, Musk reportedly secured thousands of high-powered GPU processors from Nvidia, the kind of chips necessary to build a large language model akin to tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google’s Bard.

The Group of Seven (G7) industrialized nations, which includes Japan, the United States, and the European Union, have taken a significant step toward addressing the growing concerns surrounding advanced artificial intelligence (AI) systems. On Monday, the G7 announced international guiding principles and a code of conduct aimed at guiding companies in the development of AI technologies. This move comes in response to increasing worries about privacy, the potential for misuse, and the need for global standards in the age of rapidly advancing AI, including systems like ChatGPT.

Promoting safe, secure, and trustworthy AI worldwide

The G7’s guiding principles have a clear mission: to promote the safe, secure, and trustworthy development of AI on a global scale. While recognizing the tremendous potential for innovation that AI offers, the G7 emphasizes the importance of ensuring that these technologies do not undermine democratic values, facilitate terrorism, or pose substantial risks to human rights.

The U.S. government has put in place new restrictions to cut China and Russia off from high-end artificial intelligence chips, two of the U.S.’s largest chipmakers Nvidia and AMDreported late Wednesday. The measures are intended to restrict China’s and Russia’s military capabilities but could impede technological advances in other industries too.

Nvidia announced in a filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange commission on Wednesday evening that Chinese customers would be barred from buying its “A100 and forthcoming H100 integrated circuits” and that the company could lose up to $400 million in sales of those high-end chips. Nvidia’s A100 chipset powers data centers used for A.I., data analytics, and high performance computing. The U.S. government told Nvidia that the new ban would help ensure that Nvidia’s products are not “used in” or “diverted to” Russian or Chinese military equipment, the filing says. Nvidia said its Chinese customers could apply to the U.S. government for exemptions from the restrictions, but noted that it has received no “assurances” that the government would issue any.

AMD, meanwhile, said the U.S. government ordered it to stop sending its top A.I. chip, the MI250 chip that’s used in data centers for high performance computing, to China but said the new restrictions will not block shipments of its MI100 chip to China. AMD does not expect the new restrictions to have a material impact on its business, according to Reuters. (Nvidia and AMD did not immediately respond to Fortune’s request for comment on the U.S.’s new restrictions.)

The news spooked investors. Shares of Nvidia and AMD fell 6.5% and 3.7%, respectively, in after-hours trading.
