Charging that so-called “sanctuary” cities that protect illegal immigrants are jeopardizing domestic security, Attorney General Bill Barr announced a slew of additional sanctions that he called a “significant escalation” against left-wing local and state governments that obstruct the “lawful functioning of our nation’s immigration system.”

Speaking at the National Sheriff’s Association 2020 Winter Legislative and Technology Conference in Washington, D.C., Barr said the Justice Department would immediately file multiple lawsuits against sanctuary jurisdictions for unconstitutionally interfering with federal immigration enforcement, and implement unprecedented national reviews of left-wing sanctuary governments and prosecutors.

“Let us state the reality upfront and as clearly as possible,” Barr began. “When we are talking about sanctuary cities, we are talking about policies that are designed to allow criminal aliens to escape. These policies are not about people who came to our country illegally but have otherwise been peaceful and productive members of society. Their express purpose is to shelter aliens whom local law enforcement has already arrested for other crimes. This is neither lawful nor sensible.”

The DOJ has now filed a federal complaint against the State of New Jersey seeking declaratory and injunctive relief “against its laws that forbid state and local law enforcement from sharing vital information about criminal aliens with DHS,” Barr said.

That was a reference to New Jersey Attorney General Law Enforcement Directive 2018-6, which the DOJ says illegally bars officials from sharing the immigration status and release dates of individuals in custody. It also requires New Jersey law enforcement to “promptly notify a detained individual, in writing and in a language the individual can understand” if Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) files an immigration detainer request for the individual.

Additionally, “we are filing a complaint seeking declaratory and injunctive relief against King County, Washington, for the policy … that forbids DHS from deporting aliens from the United States using King County International Airport,” Barr said.

That lawsuit targets King County Executive Order PFC-7-1-EO, which the DOJ said has dramatically increased operating costs for ICE as detainees have had to be transported to Yakima, Washington. The executive order unconstitutionally conflicts with the federal Airline Deregulation Act, which “prohibits localities such as King County from enacting or enforcing laws or regulations that relate to prices, routes, or services of air carriers,” the DOJ said.

“Further, we are reviewing the practices, policies, and laws of other jurisdictions across the country. This includes assessing whether jurisdictions are complying with our criminal laws, in particular the criminal statute that prohibits the harboring or shielding of aliens in the United States,” Barr added, noting that the DOJ would support DHS with “federal subpoenas to access information about criminal aliens in the custody of uncooperative jurisdictions.”

And, Barr said, “we are meticulously reviewing the actions of certain district attorneys who have adopted policies of charging foreign nationals with lesser offenses for the express purpose of avoiding the federal immigration consequences of those nationals’ criminal conduct. In pursuing their personal ambitions and misguided notions of equal justice, these district attorneys are systematically violating the rule of law and may even be unlawfully discriminating against American citizens.”

Prosecutors in New York and California have changed their policies so that prosecutors explicitly consider so-called “collateral consequences,” including deportation, before pursuing certain charges.

Sanctuary cities, Barr said, are defined as those with policies that allow “criminal aliens to escape” federal law enforcement — and some jurisdictions are becoming “more aggressive” in undermining immigration authorities, with local politicians even developing “schemes” to circumvent immigration officials.

In 2018, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf blew the whistle on an imminent raid by federal immigration authorities, tweeting out a warning to illegal immigrants in advance and helping them hide.

As the president did during last week’s State of the Union address, the attorney general cited several instances in which illegal immigrants were able to commit deadly crimes because they were sheltered by left-wing sanctuaries.

READ BARR’S FULL REMARKS HERE

“In November, ICE filed a detainer for an alien who was arrested for assaulting his own father,” Barr said. “The local police in New York City that had the alien in custody ignored the detainer. So the alien was released onto the streets, and last month, he allegedly raped and killed 92-year-old Maria Fuertes, affectionately known as ‘abuelita,’ a fixture of her Queens neighborhood.”

In October 2017, DHS “identified a convicted criminal alien with four prior removals at a city jail in Washington State,” Barr continued. “DHS filed a detainer. Subsequently, the alien fought with jail staff and was taken to a local medical center for treatment. But after receiving treatment, local officials released the alien in violation of the detainer. In January 2018, the alien was arrested and booked for murdering and dismembering his cousin.”

While the Constitution entrusts the police power to the states and does not require states to affirmatively assist federal authorities in implementing and enforcing immigration law, Barr said, it does clearly prohibit the states from actively sabotaging federal immigration officials.

“The Founding Fathers carefully divided responsibility and power between the federal government and the state governments,” Barr said. The ‘Supremacy Clause’ in Article VI of the Constitution provides that the ‘Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof… shall be the supreme law of the land.'”

He added: “This Clause is a vital part of our constitutional order. Enforcing a country’s immigration laws is an essential function of the national government. And no national government can enforce those laws properly if state and local governments are getting in the way. While federal law does not require that ‘sanctuary jurisdictions’ actively assist with federal immigration enforcement, it does prohibit them from interfering with our enforcement efforts.”

<img decoding="async" src="https://a57.foxnews.com/static.foxnews.com/foxnews.com/content/uploads/2018/09/640/320/sanctuaryfnf100917.jpg?ve=1&tl=1" alt="FILE - In this June 26, 2017, file photo, protesters outside the federal courthouse in San Antonio, Texas, take part in a rally to oppose a new Texas "sanctuary cities" bill that aligns with the president's tougher stance on illegal immigration.
Barr emphasized that there is no way to determine how many “criminal aliens” are in the U.S., in part because of “local policies,” although recent estimates under the Obama administration put the number as high as 2 million.

“Assuming that estimate was accurate, the numbers are likely even higher today despite the Trump Administration’s consistent and concerted efforts to find and deport this criminal population,” Barr said.

It is the “rule of law that is fundamental to ensuring both freedom and security,” Barr asserted, saying law enforcement officers are increasingly under fire in “heinous” attacks that “come against the backdrop of cynicism and disrespect for law enforcement.”

Barr touted the DOJ’s lawsuit against California and other states over their sanctuary policies. The suit over California involves the law prohibiting the federal government from conducting operations in its own affiliated private immigration facilities and detention centers.

The law, Barr said, was a “blatant attempt by the State to prohibit DHS from detaining aliens, and to interfere with the ability of the Bureau of Prisons and the U.S. Marshals Service to manage federal detainees and prisoners.”

“Today is a significant escalation in the federal government’s efforts to confront the resistance of ‘sanctuary cities.'”

— Attorney General Bill Barr

“The department sued the State of California to enjoin numerous state laws that attempted to frustrate federal immigration enforcement,” Barr said. “We prevailed on several of our claims in the lower courts, and we are hopeful that the Supreme Court will grant our request to review the remaining issues and side with us against California’s obstructionist policies.”

He concluded, “Today is a significant escalation in the federal government’s efforts to confront the resistance of ‘sanctuary cities.’ But by no means do the efforts outlined above signify the culmination of our fight to ensure the rule of law, to defend the Constitution, and to keep Americans safe. We will consider taking action against any jurisdiction that, or any politician who, unlawfully obstructs the federal enforcement of immigration law.”

Barr’s new sanctions come as the Trump administration has already announced other initiatives targeting illegal immigration in the wake of the president’s State of the Union address last week.

Last week, Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf exclusively told Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” that DHS was immediately suspending enrollment in Global Entry and several other Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) for all New York state residents — a dramatic move in response to the liberal state’s recently enacted sanctuary “Green Light Law.”

Barr slammed the law in his speech Monday, calling it “unlawful.”

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Assistant Commissioner, Office of Field Operations Todd Owen later told Fox News that up to 800,000 New Yorkers could be affected by the rule change within the next five years. Owen said people with pending Global Entry applications would be refunded, and that those with active applications would not be affected until their renewal date.

Illegal immigrants rushed to New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMVs) in large numbers after the “Green Light Law,” which allowed them to obtain driver’s licenses or learner’s permits regardless of their immigration status, took effect last December. The law also permitted applicants to use foreign documents, including passports, to be submitted in order to obtain licenses.

In a letter to top New York state officials obtained exclusively by Fox News, Wolf noted that the New York law prohibited DMV agencies across the state from sharing criminal records with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and ICE.

WATCH WOLF’S INTERVIEW WITH ‘TUCKER’

“In New York alone, last year ICE arrested 149 child predators, identified or rescued 105 victims of exploitation and human trafficking, arrested 230 gang members, and seized 6,487 pounds of illegal narcotics, including fentanyl and opioids,” Wolf wrote to New York officials. “In the vast majority of these cases, ICE relied on New York DMV records to fulfill its mission.”

The “Green Light Law,” Wolf went on, “compromises CBP’s ability to confirm whether an individual applying for TTP membership meets program eligibility requirements.”

“This Act and the corresponding lack of security cooperation from the New York DMV requires DHS to take immediate action to ensure DHS’ s efforts to protect the Homeland are not compromised,” he said.

Greetings from Tyler,

Maybe the approaching hurricane will supplant the excited COVID-19 reporting for a couple of days. That would be a welcome respite. Every news report begins with “spikes,” “hot-spots” and concerns that some are not doing all they can to “keep everyone safe.” Talk about a divided country! You can get yourself hurt depending on the “message” you send when leaving home.

It was shocking to see the treatment that the Attorney General received from the Judiciary Committee this week. It was beyond rude. Many “representatives” called him names and leveled utterly unjustified accusations at him, then refused to let him respond. They shouted him down and claimed they controlled the “time.” At one point of complete exasperation, Mr. Barr allowed as how he thought it was a “hearing,” and he was the one to be heard. WRONG! He was supposed to sit quietly while they accused him continuously without ever responding. The chair’s hammer nearly got broken over some members not wearing their masks properly. It was as embarrassing as nearly anything we’ve seen. Well, almost.

It seems that we’re watching helplessly as many “authorities” all around the United States stand with the “mostly peaceful protesters.” You know, the ones with black helmets and backpacks loaded with various incendiary devices and projectiles. Maybe those gut-wrenching images beamed from our big cities are just a “myth.” Never mind what you think you’ve seen, repeat the catch-phrases and take a knee. It’s beginning to look like the “authorities” actually want the destruction to take place. Nobody better obstruct the “protests,” lest they be called “stormtroopers.” Not that the “stormtroopers” were doing much other than playing defense anyway.

Some national agency type police had been sent to Portland, where they were accused of every evil intent imaginable. They’ve been called off as of late, and “state police” will now be responsible for the security of public buildings including the Federal Courthouse. Maybe the arsonists will give it a rest now that the “stormtroopers” are gone. Sure they will.

We’ve all heard of the “1619 Project.” It’s a work of journalistic fiction promoted by the N. Y. Times, awarded by the Pulitzer Prize Board, and expected to be taught as part of a “history” curriculum across America. It endeavors to say that all U. S. founding documents are invalid, and credits slavery for the national wealth. Even the authors have said that it’s NOT HISTORY, but a work of “journalism.” That’s perfect for the age in which we live.

With very few exceptions the corporations represented by our household products, familiar retail chains, food franchises, entertainment conglomerates, newsprint outlets and TV networks side with those who are working to destroy the American way of life. Anybody who steps out of line in any form of communication is banned, fired and held up to public ridicule. That’s where we are with free speech. It’s been outlawed by the public sector. These self-righteous entities are out to purge everything the mob calls “racist,” which is pretty much everything you can think of.

Who will stand up? Nobody in harm’s way of any national conglomerate, that’s who. Disagree with the communist narrative, and they’ll see that your life is ruined. The examples are many. It doesn’t even matter what someone may or may not have meant, social media will decide if you’re allowed to participate, and often destroys the ability of some unlucky American to earn a living. You can’t afford to participate in the public square unless you symbolically take a knee, and agree with people who believe in “micro-aggressions” and omnipresent American racism.

The NBA took a knee at a game last night. All the players, the coaches and even the referees! The NFL will do likewise. What do they care? Their futures exist in China. My suggestion is that they move the whole operation over there, and just once imply something negative about the communist leadership. If ballplayers are going to run interference for communism, they ought to have to live under it. We have no such intention, especially not here.

This isn’t the United States of yesteryear. Everything has been turned on its head. Who knew that freedom was the “myth”? Governors, mayors and county commissioners will decide whether you come outside or not, go to work or not, take the kids to play or not, and you will wear a mask and abide by all quarantine mandates or be accosted or arrested. American freedom is under attack from all directions. The mob, the “authorities” and the media have all officially determined what we will and won’t do or they’ll cancel somebody’s future. We’ll see how they feel about it when THEY GET CANCELED. And they will. Maybe they think they’ve got not only the mob, but the majority of people and the media on their side. It’s doubtful that’s true but even if it were, it won’t matter. May they enjoy their time siding with what they perceive to be the “majority” while it lasts. This thing is not unlike the French Revolution, in that new offenses against the narrative keep getting raised, and every time they do everyone has to go a little further with their appeasement efforts.

Meanwhile, some 12,000 American troops are to be transferred out of Germany. Mind you, there’s been an American presence in Germany since the end of World War II. But Germany has apparently not lived up to promises made on funding its own defense. President Trump says Germany is “delinquent,” and the U. S. will no longer be responsible for funding its defense. News outlets are predictably alarmed that NATO is being undercut, and that this is a “gift to the Russians.” They’re grieved about the expense and the time squandered in the move. But Trump plays hardball. He expects promises to be kept, otherwise he’ll take matters into his own hands to every extent possible.

Iran is playing offense again. You can find reports of them test-firing missiles at a mock-up of a U. S. aircraft carrier. But Iran hardly rates a mention in the midst of the COVID-19 excitement. After all, this is the one thing that just might bring down the United States. And that’s what the mainstream is demanding.

Who’s going to draw the line? It looks like the whole American experiment is on defense. It was months ago when this update said things might get ugly. Have things ever gotten ugly! It appears that major segments of the economy will remain shuttered until everyone takes a knee, buys into the 1619 narrative and sides with the anarchists. Whether some remaining hope of law and order prevails over the nearly universal corruption is anybody’s guess. Not only have the national agencies been corrupted beyond all recognition, the courts (in many cases) are no longer dependable. All bets are off. Well, almost all. We didn’t want to have to wait for Jesus Christ to have to come down here and straighten everybody out. But that may be our last hope. If all else fails, it’s a sure thing.

Barr has defended his independence from President Trump, amid accusations from Democrats.

Attorney General Bill Barr clashed with Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee Tuesday over accusations that he is carrying out President Trump‘s political wishes, as he appeared for a long-awaited hearing where tensions also flared over protests and riots following George Floyd’s death in police custody.

The hearing, originally scheduled for 10 a.m. local time, was delayed after committee chairman Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., was in a car accident. Nadler did not suffer any injuries.

Once the hearing began, which lasted until mid-afternoon, Nadler did not hesitate to express his scorn for Barr and his Justice Department.

NADLER INVOLVED IN CAR ACCIDENT BUT UNHURT; BARR HEARING DELAYED

“Thank you for being here, Mr. Barr,” Nadler said with a note of sarcasm, pointing out that this was the attorney general’s first time appearing before the committee.

The chairman went on to claim that Barr and his department have “downplayed the effects of systemic racism” in the wake of Floyd’s death and ongoing protests.

Addressing the department’s approach to cases related to the Russia probe, Nadler summed up the DOJ’s attitude by claiming that “the president’s enemies will be punished, his friends will be protected,” no matter the cost, and saying that the DOJ’s actions have caused “real damage to our democratic norms.”

“In your time at the department, you have aided and abetted the worst failings of the president,” Nadler said.

Ranking member Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, fired back in his opening that Democrats’ hostility toward Barr is based on one thing: “Spying.”

Jordan said that Democrats took exception to Barr accusing the Obama administration of spying on the Trump campaign, despite evidence that has come out revealing flaws in the FBI’s process in acquiring a warrant to monitor former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

Jordan also pointed to evidence that the FBI engaged in questionable tactics in investigating Michael Flynn, whose criminal case the DOJ requested be dismissed. At another point in the hearing, Barr affirmed earlier reporting that he has appointed U.S. Attorney John Bash of the Western District of Texas to investigate the practice of “unmasking” Americans who have had conversations with foreign officials.

Jordan then addressed the ongoing unrest in the U.S., showing a lengthy montage of media clips that began with reporters calling the incidents “peaceful protests” and then going into a string of clips of violence and fires in various parts of the country.

Barr, speaking next with his opening remarks, did not shy away from Democrats’ accusations against him. He insisted that he acts independently of the president and that his goal is to make sure that everyone is treated equally under the law.

He emphatically stated that Trump “has not attempted to interfere” in decisions regarding the handling of criminal matters.

DEM IMPEACHMENT LAWYER DINGS NADLER’S ‘INEFFECTIVE’ QUESTIONING OF BARR

“On the contrary, he has told me from the start that he expects me to exercise my independent judgment to make whatever call I think is right,” he continued. “That is precisely what I have done.”

Barr also addressed the racial tension following Floyd’s death. While acknowledging the tragedy, he defended the criminal justice system by arguing that in the past 50 years progress has been made and that any racism on the part of individual officers is not due to “some deep-seated racism generally infecting our police departments.” He noted that “[p]olice forces today are far more diverse than ever before.”

BARR SAYS LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH FOR YOUNG BLACK MALES IS HOMICIDE: ‘THOSE LIVES MATTER’

The attorney general responded by recent calls to defund police as “grossly irresponsible.”

Barr also spoke out against “violent rioters and anarchists” that he said have “hijacked legitimate protests,” specifically mentioning the ongoing unrest in Portland as an example.

The Trump administration has been blasted in the media for sending federal officers in to quell the unrest, but Barr defended the effort, arguing that these are not peaceful protests, but “an assault on the Government of the United States.” He described the weapons that some demonstrators have used and noted that a federal courthouse has been under siege.

The tension only escalated once the questioning began, with Nadler implying that Barr was using federal forces responding to unrest to provide material to aid Trump’s campaign.

When asked if he has discussed the campaign with Trump, Barr answered sharply, stating, “I’m a member of the Cabinet and there’s an election going on, obviously the topic comes up,” adding that “it shouldn’t be a surprise.”

Nadler later accused Barr of using federal forces to provide Trump with footage for campaign ads. When Barr tried to respond and say that he was not using federal law enforcement to help Trump’s campaign, Nadler spoke over him.

Later in the hearing, Barr got an opportunity to explain federal activities in Portland.

PROTESTS FLARE UP IN TEMPE, ARIZ. AND AUSTIN, TEXAS – AS PORTLAND SEES 61ST CONSECUTIVE NIGHT OF UNREST

“Federal courts are under attack. Since when is it OK to burn down a federal court?” Barr said.

He said: “If someone went down the street to the Prettyman Court here, that beautiful courthouse we have right at the bottom of the hill and started breaking windows and firing industrial-grade fireworks in to start a fire, throw kerosene balloons in and start fires in the court, is that OK? Is that OK now? No, the U.S. Marshals have a duty to stop that and defend the courthouse, and that’s what we are doing in Portland. We are at the courthouse, defending the courthouse.”

“We are not out looking for trouble.”

At another point in the hearing, Barr lamented that only one political party seemed to be sticking up for federal property and condemning mobs.

“What makes me concerned for the country is this is the first time in my memory that the leaders of one of our two great political parties, the democratic party are not coming out and condemning mob violence and the attack on federal courts,” Barr said. “Why can’t we just say, you know, violence against federal courts has to stop? Could we hear something like that?”

Barr also had an opportunity to explain his positions in the Michael Flynn and Roger Stone cases, and launched an impassioned defense against the accusations that he has treated the president’s friends with particular and improper favor and gone after his enemies.

“What enemies have I indicted?” Barr asked.

He then turned to the cases involving Trump’s associates.

“The cases that are cited, the Stone case and the Flynn case, are both cases where I determined that some intervention was necessary to rectify the rule of law, to make sure people are treated the same,” Barr said.

“Stone was prosecuted under me. And I said all along I thought that was a righteous prosecution, I thought he should go to jail, and I thought the judge’s sentence was correct,” he continued. “But the line prosecutors were trying to advocate for a sentence that was more than twice anyone in a similar position had ever served, and this was a 67-year-old man, first-time offender, no violence. And they were trying to put him in jail for seven to nine years. And I wasn’t going to advocate that, because that is not the rule of law.”

Barr said: “I agree the president’s friends don’t deserve special breaks but they also don’t deserve to be treated more harshly than other people and sometimes that’s a difficult decision to make, especially when you know you’re going to be castigated for it.”

AG BARR DECRIES ‘LAWLESS, EVIL ACTION’ AFTER SHOOTING ATTACK OF FEDERAL JUDGE’S SON, HUSBAND

Later in the hearing, Barr touched on the Flynn case, noting that the case against him warranted dismissal in light of exculpatory evidence surrounding his initial FBI interview, which had recently become public. This included notes that indicated that federal agents may have been trying to get Flynn to lie so that he could be prosecuted.

“The interview was untethered to any legitimate investigation,” Barr said.

Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-La., called into question Barr’s claim that there is no inherent racism in the American justice system, pointing to Barr’s own department as evidence to support his claim.

“The one thing that you have in common with your two predecessors, both Attorney General [Jeff] Sessions and [acting] Attorney General [Matt] Whitaker, is that when you all came here and brought your top staff, you brought no black people,” Richmond said. “That, sir, is systematic racism. That is exactly what John Lewis spent his life-fighting.”

Early in his opening statement, Barr paid his respects to Lewis, who was a champion of civil rights. Richmond did not appreciate the kind words.

“You really should keep the name of the Honorable John Lewis out of the Department of Justice’s mouth,” Richmond said.

Richmond also brought up an issue that Democrats have raised, regarding whether or not the president would leave office if he loses November’s election. Trump himself has refused to state whether he would accept the election results, claiming that the election would be rigged by a Democratic push for mail-in voting.

When asked if an election result could be contested, Barr pointed to 2000’s Gore v. Bush, in which the Supreme Court had to intervene before an outcome was finalized. When asked if the president could contest the election if the result is not close, Barr said, “Not that I’m aware of.”

Barr said that he has no reason to believe that the election will be rigged, although he did state that mail-in voting exposes the system to a high risk of fraud.

The hearing was also full of tension between Barr and Democratic lawmakers as they fought to speak over one another. The questioning from Reps. Lou Correa, D-Calif., and Mary Gay Scanlon, D-Pa., became particularly heated as kept trying to respond to their comments.

“This is a hearing,” Barr said. “I thought I was the one who was supposed to be heard?”

Jordan came to Barr’s defense when he questioned Nadler on why he was permitting Democratic lawmakers to interrupt the attorney general and not let him respond to questions.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

“For months you’ve tried to get the attorney to come,” Jordan told Nadler. “He’s here. Why don’t you let him speak? Why don’t you let him answer the questions?”

Jordan continued: “If you want the attorney general to come at least let him answer the accusations made against him…Time after time you refuse to let the attorney general answer the questions posed to him.”

We have to rename everything now, in deference to the violent mob. If they don’t get what they want they’ll, “Burn down the system.” After the fires they’ve set, the looting they’ve done, we’re supposed to believe that’s just a metaphor, open to interpretation. It’s a “symbolic taking.”

No one dares talk back, let alone do anything to stop the communist takeover underway. If Trump does anything they’ll call him a dictator, which of course, they do anyway. The mayors and police authorities in the smoldering cities won’t do much. They’re taking a knee, in some cases literally bowing down before crowds capable of destroying everything in sight if provoked.

Every big-name company and corporation is bowing down, or in many cases actually giving large sums of money, or should we say buying protection—mafia style—to the organizations that are funding the mob. And it’s not just Black Lives Matter, although the admittedly Marxist outfit obviously welcomes the muscle of the anarchists, the rainbow crowd and every other dispossessed misfit. They’ve joined together to insist that all law enforcement is intrinsically racist, and so are you! Any denial will get you beat to a pulp. If you get in the way of the mob, you won’t even have a chance to make such a denial, which anyway would be proof of guilt to the goons. Assuming these people wreaking havoc know something about anything, which is highly doubtful.

Watching everybody take a knee in fear, meet the mob half way, accept the destruction of our history, and “take responsibility” for things that happened in another era is the most pitiful display ever witnessed. The media has determined that they will make us kneel! Make us wear a mask, regardless! Force an admission of racism or else.

Now there’s another preposterous accusation, and we’re supposed to believe it this time. With somber tones and straight faces, the “news” people told us that Trump was “colluding with Russia.” They told us that he was Putin’s puppet, doing Russia’s bidding from the Oval Office. And Mike Flynn was betraying the United States, and conniving with the Kremlin in secret phone calls. For three years the “news” media maintained it’s somber demeanor while they accused the most patriotic of Americans of sedition, perhaps treason. They ridiculed everyone who didn’t buy their idiotic claims, calling us stupid and unwilling to accept reality.

When it blew up in their faces after three years of pumping out the story day and night, they hardly noticed that their big investigation yielded nothing beyond the deep-state coup that they insisted was a conspiracy theory. Maybe that’s because the “news” media was up to its eyeballs in the farce, complicit in reporting every false story from their “insiders” and “whistle-blowers.” The whole thing blew up in their gay faces. The Mueller investigation they’d hyped for nearly Trump’s whole first term was a complete and utter embarrassment. Mueller fell completely apart in public testimony, revealing that he didn’t even know, in some cases had never heard of, things that appeared in the report he’d supposedly written.

But that didn’t slow them down one bit. The corrupt media moved seamlessly toward impeachment with the ungainly Schiff and Nadler leading the charge. The media, once again, was all in on President Trump’s guilt. It was all in the Ukrainian phone call! But, once again Schiff, Nadler and their minions lied every day and night to the media, and the media lied to all of us, insisting that high crimes and misdemeanors had been committed by the President, and the only remedy was removal from office. But that left them with soot all over their faces like cartoon characters that accidentally blew themselves up. Still, they never noticed, never apologized, never admitted what fools they’d made of themselves for all to see. Instead, they purported to still believe their own fake news and figured they were probably right all along, despite their inability to prove any claims they’d been making for years.

The mainstream media has yet to own up to its role in trying to bring down a presidential administration on the basis of, shall we say, nonsense. Now, they’ve got a brand new toy. This time they’re claiming that Trump was briefed on a report that Russia was paying Taliban terrorists a bounty for every American soldier they could kill, and the President hid that fact, knowing full well that American soldiers were being killed for money.

It’s just as far-fetched, and divorced from reality as the previous “news” reports. It’s a quandary as to how President Trump has even survived. He’s had corrupt federal agencies, together with the corrupt media working day and night to accuse him of the most outlandish, nonsensical intentions all the while scolding the population about how racist we all are. Racism, they say, is a fact of America’s founding. They’re trying to say the very existence of our flag, our national anthem, our founders, our history and our whole culture is irredeemably racist.

They’ve thrown red paint all over memorials of George Washington. They’ve toppled statues of every respected or reviled figure in American history. They’ve burned some of the most expensive retail locations, rampaging like the criminal idiots they are, fists in the air as they cavort in silhouette.

Can you point to ANYONE (save DJT) who dares stand up and defend America? The so-called conservatives in government have fallen over like bowling pins. They’re prepared to give in to all manner of demands. The so-called conservatives are quietly working to root out Columbus Day and replace it with Juneteenth. The important thing, and parties on all sides of every debate are absolutely sure of one thing: We must wear masks!

Even one of the most popular “conservative” voices is on every day and night saying, “If we can go back to ball games, we’ll wear them.” Maybe he will. Some of us might just as soon not go anywhere the mask police will harass us. The idea that some believe that we have the constitutionally guaranteed freedom not to make any of several public statements that masks represent just drives the media personalities to distraction. They claim that their insistence is not even politically motivated. But you’re just “so wrong” if you think you have the freedom NOT to make all the statements the mask represents.

Wearing the mask says you believe in the sham-demic, and one or two of us don’t. It says that you want to patronize some business or another so badly that you’ll capitulate to the pressure. You have to fly after all, don’t you? You will wear the mask or be removed from the flight, as has happened already. Wearing the mask also is a sign (to some of us) that you’ve taken a knee. That you believe in all their nonsense and submit. We’re being softened up to submit to things we don’t respect or believe in. How about #TogetherAlone? That makes no sense, but you’re expected to feel a rush of warmth at the idea of people watching each other eat on computer screens, and pretend like they’ve been to dinner. If you think pressure to wear a mask is intense, wait till they decide everybody must shave their heads for the public health, or take a Mark in order to participate in economic activity. That’ll fix us.

What won’t we accept? Especially when they accuse us of “endangering the public.” You must SUBMIT to society’s demands. Even the mob wears masks, but it has nothing to do with the virus. When we all wear masks, we signal agreement with the mob. The fact that governors and mayors are doing the bidding of the goon-squad is no sign that the rest of us are ready to relinquish our Constitution, the Bill or Rights, the Declaration of Independence, or history or culture. You obviously are FREE to make your own decisions, without speaking for anyone else. Aren’t we all? Some, apparently few, of us believe that appeasement is not the answer. Thanks anyway, Governor Abbot. But the Governor has bought in to the phony “spike” stories that the “news” media tells us are true, and set Texas back even further as to any hope of a swift recovery. It looks like the media, or the mob has gotten to him.

On the first or second of July, CNN’s Erin Burnett shook her head in exasperation explaining that some people consider the maze of mandates an infringement of personal freedoms and liberties guaranteed in all our founding documents. “That’s so WRONG!” she explained, out of breath, shaking her head in disbelief, amazed that anyone would dare even make such a claim. Across the board, including many of the “contributors” on Fox News, they are incredulous that President Trump has not issued a national mask mandate, and spend countless hours expressing disbelief. Never mind the details. Never mind Dr. Fauci’s earlier statements about the ineffectiveness of masks and the statement, “There’s no need for Americans to go around wearing masks…” No, the good doctor has changed his mind, and as you all know, we need to make a U-turn every time the self-impressed little leprechaun thinks he’s cuter than before.

Crime has gone exponential in every big city. Even the fake news admits it obliquely while insisting that the protesters are peaceful, and we need to take note. The police now know that any time they’re summoned, thinking someone’s been shot or killed, it could well be an ambush. It’s happened repeatedly. Murders, robberies and assaults are occurring at vastly increased rates in most cities. Meanwhile mayors and city officials are rushing to pass rules and laws that might appease the mob. The “de-fund the police” movement has gained traction. New York’s de Blasio and kindred spirits across the United States are falling all over themselves to grant mob wishes by slashing police budgets. De Blasio’s slash is reportedly one billion dollars. The Minneapolis City Council has resolved to abolish the police and “RE-IMAGINE” law enforcement. Everybody’s repeating the magic re-imagine phrase. But the insurrectionists have a never-ending wish list that includes the redistribution of all private property. In fact they hate, viscerally, the very concept of private property.

They are felling statues and memorials at a blinding pace. Now they are after the founders and framers, without whom none of these cities would have existed in the first place. Without the idea of America, governed by “We, the People” we probably wouldn’t even be here, and might never have been born. There certainly wouldn’t be the kind of wealth they love to plunder, or cities to loot and burn. But they’re on a roll, and can’t be bothered with logic just now. They’re happy to let the homosexuals that dominate prime time do their explaining. Have you seen these idiots cavorting in the faces of policemen? Have you looked at those desecrating memorials and pulling down statues? Are they being paid? Because from the looks of them, they likely don’t know anything about anything.

There are some voices, even in the medical community who say the “spike” in virus cases is a farce. Sick people are going to hospitals all right. For two months they were afraid to go, and now they’re flooding in. Hospitals are testing everyone, and claiming COVID cases exist in patients who’ve come in for other reasons. Reporters are giddy, breathless, as the inevitable spike leads every news report. To supporters of the riots; to the officials who’ve waited a lifetime for the opportunity to clamp down on the general population; to the flabbergasted mainstream reporters who just can’t believe that no national mask mandate has been declared; it’s the best news they could have hoped for.

Time is short. The mob, backed by the media and business entities paying protection in a myriad of ways, needs to bring down Trump, Attorney General Barr or if necessary the whole system of governance in the United States before the lead players in the failed coup are indicted. It was announced just last night that a whole bunch in the House of Representatives have signed a petition calling for the impeachment of Barr. To justify it, they trotted out one of those who claimed to have “proof” of Russian collusion for the past three years. He’s concerned about damage to the rule of law if Barr should continue in office. In fact, it’s Obama’s inner circle and his agency brass that are implicated in the earlier attempt at insurrection. Supposedly the cases are nearing completion, but we’ve heard that before. Nonetheless, all the big name Deep State players have reportedly lawyered up just in case. Meanwhile, many federal employees and heads of agencies support the ongoing insurrection against the United States in general, and against the current President in particular. It’s a battle for the soul of the United States, and everybody seems willing to appease the mob. They’ll never be appeased, and they’ll never stop making demands, no matter what we do.

Historic monuments and statues have become the targets of anger and vandalism during protests.

President Trump announced Friday that he signed an executive order to protect American monuments, memorials, and statues and threatened those who try to pull them down with “long prison time.”

“I just had the privilege of signing a very strong Executive Order protecting American Monuments, Memorials, and Statues – and combatting recent Criminal Violence,” Trump tweeted. “Long prison terms for these lawless acts against our Great Country!”

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump

I just had the privilege of signing a very strong Executive Order protecting American Monuments, Memorials, and Statues – and combatting recent Criminal Violence. Long prison terms for these lawless acts against our Great country! (2:48 PM – 26 June 2020)

The new order enforces laws prohibiting the desecration of public monuments, the vandalism of government property, and recent acts of violence, withholds federal support tied to public spaces from state and local governments that have failed to protect public monuments, and withdraws federal grants for jurisdictions and law enforcement agencies that fail to stop their desecration.

It also provides assistance for protecting the federal statues.

Meanwhile, on Friday evening, Attorney General Bill Barr directed the creation of a task force to counter anti-government extremists, specifically naming those who support the far-right “boogaloo” movement and those who identify as Antifa.

The task force will be headed by Craig Carpenito, the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, and Erin Nealy Cox, U.S. Attorney for the district of Northern Texas, and will be composed of U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, the FBI and other relevant departments, according to a press release. The group will share information with local and state law enforcement and will provide training on identifying anti-government extremists, according to an internal Justice Department memo.

The president has been teasing his order related to memorials all week, as historic monuments and statues have become the targets of anger and vandalism during Black Lives Matter protests in the wake of George Floyd‘s police custody death in Minneapolis at the end of May.

DC’S CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATE WANTS ‘PROBLEMATIC’ LINCOLN STATUE REMOVED FROM LINCOLN PARK

The initial statues under fire were Confederate soldiers and generals largely in the South due to the treatment of African-Americans, and even some high-level military officials called for the renaming of Army bases named after Confederate generals. The anger has since spread to monuments of former presidents and others deemed to be “colonizers,” such as Christopher Columbus, and even some who fought against slavery.

On Friday night, protesters plan to try to tear down the Emancipation Statue of Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln Park. The statue shows the 16th president holding the Emancipation Proclamation next to a kneeling, shackled slave. Protesters say it does not depict the role slaves had in securing their own freedom.

TRUMP ISSUES WARNING AMID VANDALISM, EFFORT TO TOPPLE ANDREW JACKSON STATUE

Washington, D.C.’s congressional delegate, Eleanor Holmes Norton, said Tuesday she would introduce a House bill to remove the “problematic” statue.

Last weekend protesters tied ropes and tried to topple a statue of former president Andrew Jackson in Lafayette Square Park, but were stopped by law enforcement.

In San Francisco, protesters defaced and toppled a statue of Ulysses S. Grant, who led the Union Army during the Civil War. Protesters that same night also tore down statues of St. Junipero Serra and Francis Scott Key, who wrote the lyrics to “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

This week McConnell listed the monuments that have been defaced in recent days—noting that in Portland, Ore., a mob “graffitied a statue of our first President, pulled it down, and burned an American flag over his head. This is George Washington.”

McConnell said another Washington statue was defaced in Baltimore, a statue of Thomas Jefferson was ripped down in Portland, and others were targeted.

“This is the general and first President who built our nation, and the author of the Declaration of Independence. Genius statesmen who helped begin this grand experiment that has brought freedom to hundreds of millions and saved the world a few times for good measure,” McConnell said. “And yet a crazy fringe is treating their monuments like vanity statues of tinhorn tyrants.”

He added: “Our Founding Fathers are being roped to the ground like they were Saddam Hussein. The list goes on.”

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

McConnell was referring to the famous moment in 2003 when a 40-foot bronze statue of the Iraqi dictator was roped and pulled to the ground, symbolizing the end of his regime.

President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an executive order threatening penalties against social-media companies over allegations of bias against conservatives.

“We’re here today to defend free speech from one of the greatest dangers,” he told pool reporters before signing the document.

The move comes two days after Twitter added fact-checking links — the first of its kind — to two of Trump’s tweets pushing false claims about voting by mail.

According to the order, Trump is primarily seeking to empower federal regulators to amend Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which gives social-media companies broad authority to moderate speech on their platforms.

Section 230 also stipulates that tech companies are not responsible for comments and other content that users post on their platforms.

Trump’s order called for tech companies to lose their Section 230 protection if they do anything to discriminate against users, restrict their access to a platform without giving them a fair hearing, or take other action that isn’t in line with the terms of service.

The executive order said that within 60 days of its signing, the Secretary of Commerce should file a petition for rulemaking within the Federal Communications Commission for regulations that clarify the scope of Section 230.

It also said the head of each executive department and agency should review federal spending on advertising and marketing paid to online platforms.

Additionally, the order directed the Federal Trade Commission to take action to prohibit “deceptive or unfair practices” and allow people to complain if they think the companies are acting in a way that goes against their own rules and practices.

“As President, I have made clear my commitment to free and open debate on the internet. Such debate is just as important online as it is in our universities, our town halls, and our homes,” the order said. “It is essential to sustaining our democracy. In a country that has long cherished the freedom of expression, we cannot allow a limited number of online platforms to hand-pick the speech that Americans may access and convey online.”

This statement in the final version of the executive order was slightly different from what was in a draft of the document that leaked online earlier. The draft included “newspapers” as one of the forums in which the president said “free and open debate” was important, but the word did not appear in the final version.

Trump’s final order also directs the attorney general to propose federal legislation that would be “useful to promote the policy objectives of this order.”

“When large, powerful social media companies censor opinions with which they disagree, they exercise a dangerous power,” the order said. “They cease functioning as passive bulletin boards, and ought to be viewed and treated as content creators.”

The document also specifically singled out Twitter, saying the platform “now selectively decides to place a warning label on certain tweets in a manner that clearly reflects political bias. As as has been reported, Twitter seems never to have placed such a label on another politician’s tweet.”

The president then accused Rep. Adam Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, of “continuing to mislead his followers by peddling the long-disproved Russian Collusion Hoax,” adding in the executive order that “Twitter did not flag those tweets.”

The FBI’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 US election resulted in indictments against eight Americans affiliated with the Trump campaign, 13 Russian nationals, 12 Russian military intelligence officers, three Russian entities, and two others who were unaffiliated with the Trump campaign.

Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former deputy campaign chairman Rick Gates, former foreign-policy aide George Papadopoulos, and former national security adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to charges ranging from conspiracy to lying to the FBI, though Flynn later tried to withdraw his guilty plea. Trump’s informal adviser Roger Stone was also convicted of seven felonies.

And the former special counsel Robert Mueller indicated that he did not consider charging Trump with a crime not because of a lack of evidence, but because of a Justice Department memo saying a sitting president cannot be indicted.

Trump fights fact-checking and alleged ‘censorship’

Thursday’s executive order is the Trump administration’s latest attack on big technology companies in a back and forth that has been going on since Trump took office. The president enjoys a large following on Twitter, and Facebook advertising helped him get elected in 2016, but conservatives have accused technology companies of being biased against them for the past couple of years.

There have been White House summits, congressional hearings, and draft legislation on the matter, but nothing that specifically aims to regulate social-media companies for allegations of censorship has been successful yet.

Asked Thursday whether he would delete his Twitter account, Trump said, “If we had a fair press in this country, I would do that in a heartbeat,” adding that his social-media presence allows him to reach more people.

The president doubled down on claims of bias after Twitter fact-checked his tweets this week in which he claimed that mail-in ballots in California are “substantially fraudulent” and will result in a “Rigged Election.”

Twitter’s alert linked to a “Moments” page titled “Trump makes unsubstantiated claim that mail-in ballots will lead to voter fraud” that listed a series of facts contradicting his claims.

On Wednesday, Twitter elaborated on its decision to fact-check the president’s tweets, writing: “We added a label to two @realDonaldTrump Tweets about California’s vote-by-mail plans as part of our efforts to enforce our civic integrity policy. We believe those Tweets could confuse voters about what they need to do to receive a ballot and participate in the election process.”

Trump, meanwhile, accused the social media platform of “interfering in the 2020 Presidential Election” and said he wouldn’t allow Twitter to stifle free speech.

“We will strongly regulate, or close them down before we can ever allow this to happen,” he tweeted Wednesday morning.

Trump teased the executive order again in a tweet later that day, writing, “Big Tech is doing everything in their very considerable power to CENSOR in advance of the 2020 Election. If that happens, we no longer have our freedom. I will never let it happen! They tried hard in 2016 and lost. Now they are going absolutely CRAZY. Stay Tuned!!!”

Despite the president’s threats, however, First Amendment experts say he does not have the power to regulate or shut down social-media companies because he disagrees with them. Tech policy experts echoed that assessment, telling Business Insider that parts of the executive order are not legal at all, while other sections would require agencies to throw out years of judicial precedent.

That said, the role of social media companies in combatting the spread of misinformation will likely be a recurring issue in the run-up to the election.

Just hours before Trump signed his executive order, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg took aim at Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, telling Fox News in an interview, “I just believe strongly that Facebook shouldn’t be the arbiter of truth of everything that people say online.”

Dorsey hit back at Zuckerberg, tweeting, “We’ll continue to point out incorrect or disputed information about elections globally. And we will admit to and own any mistakes we make. This does not make us an ‘arbiter of truth.'”

He added: “Our intention is to connect the dots of conflicting statements and show the information in dispute so people can judge for themselves. More transparency from us is critical so folks can clearly see the why behind our actions.”

Democrats have been heavily critical of social media companies, most prominently Facebook, that have refused to crack down on misinformation on their platforms.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday accused Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg of pandering to Trump by criticizing Twitter’s decision to fact-check his tweets and insisting that Facebook cannot be an “arbiter of truth.”

Pelosi argued during a press conference that Facebook is chiefly driven by a desire to maximize profits, including by avoiding taxes and regulation, while “hid[ing] under freedom of speech.”

“Facebook, all of them, they’re all about making money,” she said. “Their business model is to make money at the expense of the truth and the facts … and they defend that.”

She also called Trump’s executive order “silly” and said it was “a distraction” from the coronavirus pandemic.
