Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to consolidate their ceasefire and restore exchanges after trilateral talks held in China.

The three sides had “in-depth exchanges on working step by step through mutual efforts to resume normal exchanges, rebuild political mutual trust, improve Cambodia-Thailand relations and safeguard regional stability”, according to Beijing’s foreign ministry.

The ministry issued the statement following a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, his Thai counterpart Sihasak Phuangketkeow and Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn on Monday in Yuxi in southwestern China’s Yunnan province.

]]> BANGKOK — At least one person was killed in Cambodia amid a flare-up of conflict with Thailand on Wednesday as the neighbors accused each other of opening fire along a disputed part of their border, threatening a US-brokered truce.

Earlier on Wednesday Thailand’s foreign ministry said it had demanded an apology from Cambodia after accusing it of laying fresh landmines that maimed a Thai soldier on Monday.

On Tuesday, Thailand said it was suspending an enhanced ceasefire agreement that the two nations signed last month in the presence of President Donald Trump.

]]> The fighting began on Thursday morning close to the ancient Ta Muen Thom temple, beside the border between Thailand’s Surin province and Cambodia’s Oddar Meanchey province.

Thailand declared martial law in eight districts bordering Cambodia on Friday as a dispute between the two neighbours continues to worsen.

“Martial law is now in effect” in seven districts of Chanthaburi and one district of Trat, commander of the Border Defence Command, Apichart Sapprasert, said in a statement.

The declaration was made to safeguard national sovereignty, territorial integrity and the lives and property of Thai citizens, the statement also said.
