]]> WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Friday that he decided to move a second aircraft carrier into the Middle East as he presses Iran to make a deal over its nuclear program.

The USS Gerald R. Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier, is being sent from the Caribbean Sea to the Mideast to join other warships and military assets the U.S. has built up in the region. The planned deployment comes just days after Trump suggested another round of talks with the Iranians was at hand. Those negotiations didn’t materialize as one of Tehran’s top security officials visited Oman and Qatar this week and exchanged messages with U.S. intermediaries.

“In case we don’t make a deal, we’ll need it,” Trump told reporters about the second carrier as he left the White House for a military base in North Carolina. He added, “It’ll be leaving very soon.”

“There is no way they can enter Venezuela,” Maduro said, calling the U.S. deployment of multiple warships, a nuclear-powered submarine, and 4,500 troops a siege that only strengthens his government. The move, part of President Donald Trump‘s intensified anti-drug cartel operations, has sparked the most serious U.S.-Venezuela confrontation in years.

]]> A long-awaited expedition into an 18th-century shipwreck in the Caribbean Sea has reportedly begun.

The government of Colombia launched the deep-water expedition of the San José shipwreck, which is rumored to contain cargo worth billions of dollars, last week.

The galleon sank in 1708 en route to Cartagena, Colombia, after it was ambushed by an English squadron.

Historians believe that roughly 600 people on the ship died, with very few survivors.

The shipwreck is believed to contain 11 million gold and silver coins, along with emeralds and other valuable cargo.
