The deal includes a six-week initial ceasefire phase and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas of Gaza and the release of hostages held by Hamas in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian detainees held by Israel, Biden said.

Biden said that Americans would be part of the initial release. He did not say how many. Seven Americans were taken hostage by Hamas. Four have been confirmed dead. Edan Alexander, 20, Keith Siegel, 64, and Saugi Dekel-Chen, 36, are believed to be alive.

There seems to be some question as to whether they will put Donald Trump in jail over the New York charges.  All bets are off if they do that.  Sentencing has been delayed until after the election by some stroke of genius.  You can see Hillary taking great delight in calling him a convicted felon.  What haven’t they tried? 

It seems like a dangerous time in American history.  We have a president who has pretty much checked out, and some are suspecting that he might resign, leaving you-know-who the incumbent.  You can bet your bottom dollar that there will be more surprises between now and election time.  Who could have guessed what has happened so far?  Nobody.

Meanwhile, the world is a mess.  We hear that Ukraine is making inroads into Russia.  Zelensky is shaking up his home team, and who knows what’s next?  Apparently Putin is not “fussed” about the incursions deep into Russian territory.  He’s sticking with the original plan.  For all Zelinsky’s running around the world, hat in hand, maybe things aren’t turning up roses.  

The war in Israel is still going on.  We’re a long way from 1967.  The terrorists have spent years digging tunnels and devising what they would do under various circumstances.  Now they’re the victims, and the wailing never stops. Now their “homeland” is rubble and they’re on the run.  Meanwhile the negotiators act tough, as if they still hold the cards.  The Israelis have found dead hostages, recently killed, shot in the back of the head.  Protests, from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv are blaming Netanyahu for what’s happened, and more hostages are still being held.    

Everybody has heard about the shooting in Georgia.  Now the Dad of the little urchin has been arrested.  He better hope that leaving his guns unsecured was his only failing.  He did a rotten job of child rearing, that’s for sure.  Two teachers dead, and two students, many wounded, and now the little idiot who murdered them and is facing life in prison as an adult.  Uh oh.  I bet they never told him about prison.  Maybe he’d have thought twice.  

The wars go on like the United States doesn’t exist.  We don’t know what will happen.  I hope there is not another incident, or attempted assassination.  You’d think the media would be a little more curious about the last one.  There’s nothing to see, or at least that’s how the media has portrayed it.  That better be the case.  

Maybe it’s too late to save the United States of America.  We’ve had it good, maybe too good.  But our lives show no thanks to God.  We didn’t earn the blessings, but we are the recipients.  Is there some way society could be less thankful?  Is another revival in the cards?

Conventional wisdom says there is no God, and everybody can defy Him anytime they get ready.  Something’s got to change, or we’re going to find out the hard way that God will not be mocked.  We look at the prophecies for the end time, and wonder what will happen.  We better start obeying His Commandments, giving Him thanks for all our blessings, or we’ll hate to see what happens next.

In a recorded message at the start of a government meeting, Netanyahu vowed the war would continue until Israel achieved all its goals. A U.S. official had said the deal will include a four- or five-day ceasefire, the first pause in six weeks of an Israeli bombardment of Gaza.

Speaking after presenting the still-undisclosed details of the deal to his war cabinet and the wider national security cabinet, Netanyahu told his government it was a difficult decision but the right decision and would enable Israel to go on fighting Hamas.

The People’s Republic of China has called for a cease-fire between Russia and Ukraine, releasing a 12-point “peace plan” on the one-year anniversary of the invasion.

China’s position paper calls for an immediate end of violence in Ukraine and a return to dialogues with the aim of ending the conflict through diplomacy.

“All parties must stay rational and exercise restraint, avoid fanning the flames and aggravating tensions, and prevent the crisis from deteriorating further or even spiraling out of control,” the peace plan states. “All parties should support Russia and Ukraine in working in the same direction and resuming direct dialogue as quickly as possible, so as to gradually deescalate the situation and ultimately reach a comprehensive ceasefire.”

Ukraine has rejected an announcement by Vladimir Putin of a 36-hour ceasefire to mark Orthodox Christmas, saying there will be no truce until Russia removes its invading forces from occupied land.

The Kremlin said Putin had ordered his defence minister, Sergei Shoigu, to introduce a temporary ceasefire along the entire line of contact in Ukraine for Orthodox Christmas from midday on 6 January to midnight on 7 January.

“Taking into account the appeal of his holiness Patriarch Kirill, I instruct the minister of defence of the Russian Federation to introduce a ceasefire regime along the entire line of contact of the parties in Ukraine from 12.00 on 6 January 2023 to 24.00 on 7 January 2023,” Putin’s order, addressed to Shoigu and published on the Kremlin’s website, stated.
