Border Patrol intercepts more than 1,000 pounds of meth, cocaine chemicals from China

April 16 (UPI) — Customs and Border Protection officers in Chicago on Thursday seized a shipment from China containing methamphetamine precursor and a cocaine cutting agent, the CBP announced Tuesday.

A narcotics detection dog named Aldo helped CBP officers discover and detain 26 boxes of unknown powders that subsequent testing showed were 1,117 pounds of meth precursor and 225 pounds of cocaine cutting agent, agents said.

“Our ability to collect intelligence and the experience and knowledge of our officers were key in stopping these shipment,” said LaFonda Sutton-Burke, field operations director of the CBP’s Chicago field office.

CBP spokesman Steven Bansbach told UPI the shipment from Shenzhen, China, arrived via air cargo with Wood Dale, Ill., as its destination. Wood Dale is about 25 miles northwest of Chicago.

A formal laboratory test of a white powder found in a “highly-trafficked” area of the White House has been confirmed as cocaine, NBC News reported on Wednesday, citing an unnamed official with knowledge of the investigation.

A Secret Service review of visitor logs and surveillance cameras will seek to determine how the cocaine, described as being in a small, zippered bag, came to be in the executive mansion.

On Sunday, the discovery prompted an evacuation of the White House. A preliminary field test by the DC fire department indicated the substance was cocaine.

“We have a yellow bar saying cocaine hydrochloride,” a radio dispatch from the White House said.

Europol helps take down cocaine ‘super cartel’ in six-country bust

A drugs cartel believed to control up to a third of Europe’s cocaine trade was taken down in a six-country bust, with 30 tonnes of drugs seized, Europol said on Monday.

The European policing agency had helped co-ordinate the takedown, with police arresting a total of 49 suspects in raids in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Arab Emirates with help from the US Drug Enforcement Agency, DEA, over the space of 11 days in November.

At least six high-value targets of what Europol dubbed a “super cartel” were arrested in Dubai.
