Argentina to move embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem

Argentinian President Javier Milei made the announcement while speaking in Israel’s Knesset.

June 11 (UPI) — Argentina will move its embassy from a Tel Aviv suburb to Jerusalem next year, Argentinian President Javier Milei announced Wednesday night in a speech in his honor in Israel’s Knesset.

Milei is participating in a three-day visit to Israel that began Tuesday.

In Jerusalem, he was welcomed in the Knesset by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana and Opposition Leader Yair Lapid.

They praised the warm ties between Israel and the South American nation under his leadership. Milei has been Argentina’s president since 2023.

Dozens of Russian diplomats leave Moldova after expulsion order

Moldova’s Foreign Ministry said the decision was taken following “ongoing tensions and unfriendly actions,” and that embassy staff and diplomats would have to leave by 15 August.

Several diplomats from the Russian embassy in the Republic of Moldova left the country on a charter plane on Monday morning, after being expelled in the wake of what Moldovan authorities called “unfriendly actions”.

The flight was scheduled to take off at 9:00 am (local time) with approximately 100 people on board. Among them were diplomats and technical staff from the Russian embassy, as well as their family members.

They were taken to the airport in two buses, while others seem to have left in their cars and other chartered means.

Taiwan told to ‘pack up and leave’ Honduras after ties severed

TEGUCIGALPA, March 27 (Reuters) – Taiwan must vacate its embassy in Honduras within 30 days, a senior Honduran official said on Monday, after President Xiomara Castro severed ties with Taiwan in favor of China in a bid for more investment and jobs from the Asian giant.

Deputy Foreign Minister Antonio Garcia issued the order on local television on Monday, following the government’s announcement over the weekend that it had opened formal diplomatic relations with Beijing while simultaneously ending its decades-long relationship with Taiwan.

Castro’s main conservative opposition later announced it would reverse the opening to China if it regains power.

China has long-argued that democratically ruled Taiwan is part of its own territory with no right to state-to-state ties, a position Taipei strongly rejects. Communist-run China demands that countries it has ties with must adopt its position.
