The baby names that parents in the UK love the most have been revealed – and some may surprise you.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has now released its annual figures for the most popular baby names in England and Wales. The data always reflects the year just gone, so the list makes up the top 100 names for boys and girls from 2023.

This year, Muhammad has overtaken Noah as the top name for baby boys, with Noah dropping to second place after coming in first in 2021 and 2022, followed by Oliver. Muhammad was the second most popular name last year and has been in the top 10 since 2016. Back in 2012, it ranked only 20th so it’s climbed up the list significantly over the past decade.

Ancient discoveries could pop up anywhere, sometimes even being found by mistake.

Twelve-year-old Rowan Brannon from Bognor Regis, West Sussex, was walking his dog in Pagham with his mother in 2022 when they stumbled upon a gold bracelet.

Unaware of the bracelet’s value or history, they took the gold cuff to a local finds liaison officer, according to an Aug. 15, 2024, news release from Chichester District Council.

The discovery turned out to be an ancient one. After further investigation, the gold bracelet was confirmed to be a piece of Roman jewelry with roots around the first century A.D., according to the release.

In a statement, the Met Police said a 32-year-old man had been arrested and taken into custody after the girl and her 34-year-old mother were stabbed.

Abdullah, 29, who works at TWG tea in Leicester Square, said he intervened to stop the attacker and, with help from colleagues, gave first aid to the child.

The Met said it was “not looking for anyone else” in connection with the attack and does not believe the victims knew their attacker. It also said at this stage there was no suggestion the stabbing was terror-related.

The teen will be remanded in custody and will appear at the Liverpool Magistrates Court on Thursday, the police said.

The 17-year-old was in police custody on suspicion of murder and attempted murder after the bloody rampage on Monday at a “Taylor Swift yoga and dance workshop”, a summer vacation event for children aged 6 to 11 in the English seaside town. The three girls killed were aged 6 to 9.

Police said the person charged cannot be named for legal reasons because he is under 18 years of age.

Disturbances in Southport on Tuesday took place after false information was spread on social media that the suspect behind the stabbings was a radical Islamist migrant.

In London on Wednesday, thousands gathered near the prime minister’s Downing Street residence, shouting “Save our kids”, “We want our country back” and “Stop the boats”, as well as English football chants.

Bob Chan told a news conference in London yesterday that he suffered injuries requiring hospital treatment after being pulled away from a street demonstration and assaulted. “I am shocked because I never thought something like this could have happened in the UK,” he said.
