										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span class="story_dl">Dec. 10 (UPI) &#8212;</span> Brazilian President <a class="tpstyle" title="Luiz Inacio" href="https://www.upi.com/topic/Luiz_Inacio/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Luiz Inacio</a> Lula <a class="tpstyle" title="da Silva" href="https://www.upi.com/topic/da_Silva/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">da Silva</a> was listed in stable condition while in intensive care on Tuesday after undergoing emergency brain surgery to address bleeding, physicians said.</p>
<p>Lula, 79, was first<a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cx2w9ppej0xo" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> taken to a hospital</a> in Brasilia after complaining about a severe headache. An MRI scan identified the brain bleed and he was transported to Siro-Libanes Hospital in Sao Paulo to have it drained.</p>
<p>A hospital statement said it is believed the bleeding was caused when Lula fell in his bathroom at his presidential residence back in October.</p>
