Greetings from Tyler,

Flags are flying at half staff. It is unbelievable the flooding in Texas. Having been in some of those canyons, I know the water gathers and comes fast. Some canyons have sirens. The death toll from summer camps in the area is staggering. There will be lawsuits, and the camps (some of them of long-standing) are bound to go out of business. Can you imagine being the parents of those little girls?

But then there’s some media buzz about cloud seeding. We were worrying about man’s ability to engineer the weather a long time ago, and there’s some indication that may have happened. They were talking about this twenty years ago. Maybe there’s something to it. If there is, there are going to be lawsuits that can’t be settled.

The media is doing all it can to turn us against the President. If you read the liberal press (and it’s all over the internet) those that voted MAGA are turning on the President. His most fervent supporters are abandoning him. That’s what the media wants us to believe. I’m not moved.

They’re trying to claim that Trump is losing his base. Judging from the websites I read, that may be true. People are writing long comments, concluding that Trump is hiding something, particularly to do with the Jeffery Epstien files. Pam Bondi said they were sitting on her desk, then she said we already have it all. I think it has something to do with the fact that Epstien’s clients were the most powerful men in the world. But who knows?

There’s talk of Dan Bongino resigning over the Epstein Island debacle. If he goes there’s also the possibility of Kash Patel going. Those were names that gave us confidence in this administration, and it won’t be good if they resign.

The left is beside itself over deportations. They’re hiding illegals when they’re fearful the authorities will deport them. Apparently ICE is going after churches that have advertised for illegals and are hiding them out. The Los Angeles mayor is raising money and advising them. Meanwhile the media is trying to tell us about every mishap, and they’re particularly concerned about agents violating American rights. Somebody needs to tell them that there are consequences for breaking our laws.

I don’t think the war in Ukraine can be won. We can deplete our own supplies trying to help them fight the Russians, and or North Koreans, but they’ve made a bad situation worse. Apparently targets deep inside Russia have been hit by drones. The relationship between Trump and Putin may have gotten a whole lot worse, we’ll see. But it looks like Russia is determined now to take the whole thing, and a bunch of American weapons are involved.

I’m still optimistic about the Trump administration. I hope the Bongino/Patel thing doesn’t go ballistic. I hope they don’t resign. Surely they wouldn’t without a heart-to-heart with the President.

Don’t get too comfortable. The Bible says when men say “peace and safety,” then all manner of disasters start to take hold.

Please pray for the parents of those girls in Texas. They must be going through something nobody can identify with. God help them.

Mark

PS. Our Branson Feast site has moved to a new location at the Ledgestone Country Club, a top-rated golf course north of Silver Dollar City. Enjoy!

The post Weekly Update by Mark Armstrong – July 11, 2025 first appeared on Garner Ted Armstrong Evangelistic Association.

Nine people died on Saturday after Typhoon Yagi made landfall in Vietnam before weakening into a tropical depression. The rest died in the floods and landslides that followed on Sunday and Monday, state media VN Express reported.

The water levels of several rivers in northern Vietnam were dangerously high.

A bus carrying 20 people was swept into a flooded stream by a landslide in mountainous Cao Bang province on Monday morning. State media said four bodies were recovered from the bus and one person was rescued alive. The others were still missing.

ew data from the Insurance Council of Australia shows that flooding in South-East Queensland and Northern New South Wales in late February and early March has caused $4.8 billion in insured damages, meaning it ranks as the third costliest extreme weather event in Australia’s history.

Only Cyclone Tracy (1974) and the Sydney hailstorm (1999) caused more insured losses, and this year’s East Coast Flood is the costliest flood in Australian history, analysts report.

Close to 225,000 insurance claims relating to the event have now been lodged across both states, an increase of 3.6% on last month’s count.

However, as claims assessments continue to be completed, insurance costs for the event have increased 12% on last month, ICA data shows, driven in part by increasing materials and labour costs.

Almost 30% of claims have been closed and $1.5 billion has already been paid to policyholders.

This week marked four months since the ICA first declared the floods as an insurance catastrophe.

The event stretched over several days and many claims were not made until days, weeks or months after the initial event, with locations like Lismore being hit for a second time at the end of March, generating many new or additional claim lodgements.

“The sheer scale of the extreme weather event that devastated Queensland and New South Wales is something we have never seen before, and the cost continues to rise,” said ICA CEO Andrew Hall.

“Money is flowing into these devastated communities with $1.5 billion already paid and this number increasing every day,” he continued. “Past experience has shown us that local councils need to be looking at what they can do to process the higher than usual number of development applications we expect to see as a result of this flood.”

“The time it takes for some property claims decisions to be made has been a consistent issue raised at our policyholder forums in New South Wales and Queensland,” Hall acknowledged. “There are clear obligations and regulations on insurers around claims, but ultimately the type of claim, the assessment required and the complexity of the repair or rebuild can impact that process.”

The latest reports from the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) suggest that insured costs from flooding in Australia’s Queensland and New South Wales areas have continued to creep higher, with industry losses now estimated at $1.89 billion.

According to ICA data, the number of insurance claims linked to the floods rose by 7.2% overnight to 126,511 claims in total.

Analysts at Honan Insurance Group believe that insured losses will soon exceed $2 billion, which would make this one of Australia’s costliest disasters ever, with widespread impacts for the re/insurance industry.

The immediate impacts, they say, include overreliance on the reinsurance market and could see global reinsurers becoming more stringent in their underwriting and impose more restrictions on cover in Australia due to perceived high risk

Additionally, Coverholders and Managing General Agents delivering losses into markets, such as the London-based Lloyds, may be required to tighten underwriting and limit any new business.

“Expect to see underwriting moratoriums on new business in some flood exposed regions,” said Poppy Foxton, National Head of Corporate Insurance and Risk Solutions at Honan.

“The consequences of this could be that only a select number of insurers will be able to afford and therefore offer flood cover, meaning a small group will need to support the many, which is unsustainable. Resulting rising costs and limited coverage could drive individuals in flood exposed areas to decide not to take out flood cover, leaving them exposed to risk.”

Analysts at Aon have similarly warned that the overall economic toll from flooding will also run into the billions.

JAKARTA (XINHUA, AFP) – The death toll from a strong earthquake and floods in the central parts of Indonesia has risen to 96, with nearly 70,000 people forced to flee home and take shelter, the National Disaster Management Agency said on Monday (Jan 18).

A total of 81 people were killed after the 6.2-magnitude quake and the 5.9-magnitude aftershock struck West Sulawesi province last Thursday and Friday, and 15 people were reported dead in South Kalimantan province as floods have hit the province since Jan 14, the agency’s spokesman Raditya Jati said.

The quakes have forced about 28,000 people to take shelter in 25 evacuation centres in West Sulawesi province’s city of Mamuju and district of Majene, while the floods caused nearly 40,000 others to take shelter in South Kalimantan province, Mr. Jati said.

The number of houses damaged by the quakes rose to 1,150 units in the district, and five school buildings were also destroyed there, he said.

The assessment of risks of the quakes in the city and district was still going on, Mr Jati said.

Medics battled exhaustion and the risk of Covid-19 as they raced on Monday to treat scores of people injured by the quake.

Masked doctors treated patients with broken limbs and other injuries at a makeshift medical centre set up outside the only one of the city’s hospitals that survived the quake relatively intact.

“The patients keep coming,” operations manager Nurwardi from Mamuju’s West Sulawesi General Hospital, told Agence France-Presse.

“This is the only hospital operating in the city. Many need surgery but we have limited resources and medicine.”

The open-air triage centre was desperately short of staff, and those on hand worked frantically despite the risk of contracting coronavirus.

The hospital was scrambling to open up more rooms for surgery and erect additional tents outside to treat the injured, said the operations manager Nurwardi, who like many Indonesians goes by one name.

But fears that another quake could bring down the building were adding to the challenges.

“Many patients do not want to be treated inside the hospital because they’re worried about another quake,” manager Nurwardi said. “Well, it’s not only them, the medics are…scared of being inside the building too.”

It was still unclear how many people – dead or alive – could still be under mountains of debris, as rescuers rushed to find survivors more than three days after the disaster.

Still trapped

Most of the 81 dead were found in Mamuju, but some bodies were also recovered south of the city of 110,000 people in West Sulawesi province.

Last Friday’s tremor triggered panic among residents of the island, which was hit by a 2018 quake-tsunami disaster that killed thousands.

At least 18 people had been pulled out of the rubble alive, including a pair of young sisters, according to official data.

Police began using sniffer dogs to help in the search at a badly damaged hospital, as body bags were filled with recovered corpses.

“There are probably some people still trapped under the rubble,” search and rescue agency spokesman Yusuf Latif said on Monday.

Meanwhile, about 19,000 people left homeless by the quake took refuge at dozens of makeshift shelters – many little more than tarpaulin-covered tents filled with whole families.

They said they were running low on food, blankets and other aid, as emergency supplies were rushed to the hard-hit region.

Many survivors were unable to return to their destroyed homes, or were too scared to go back, fearing a tsunami sparked by aftershocks, common after strong earthquakes.

Fearing an outbreak of coronavirus in the crowded camps, authorities were trying to separate high- and low-risk groups.

Rapid tests will also be applied to them and the shelters for the displaced people will be separated from each other, according to the agency’s head Doni Monardo.

“There will be antigen tests to ensure that the evacuees have not been infected by the Covid-19 virus,” Mr Monardo said.

Meanwhile, in South Kalimantan province, the floods have inundated nearly 25,000 houses, Mr Jati said.

An emergency status has been declared there since Jan 14 and the risk assessment has been undertaken, he added.

The province has been hit by massive floods since Jan 14 after heavy rains pounded the area, according to the agency.

The post At least 96 killed, nearly 70,000 displaced as quake, floods hit Indonesia first appeared on Garner Ted Armstrong Evangelistic Association.

The damage, tallied by the German reinsurer Munich Re, increased from $166 billion in the previous year and comes as a warming planet heightens risks.

Losses that were insured rose to $82 billion from $57 billion in 2019, Munich Re said. They add to the burden of the coronavirus pandemic that has hit the insurance industry hard.

“Climate change will play an increasing role in all of these hazards,” said Munich Re board member Torsten Jeworrek, pointing to hurricanes, wildfires and other storms.

“It is time to act,” he said.

The hurricane season was “hyperactive”, with a record 30 storms, surpassing 2005’s 28 storms, Munich Re said.

Heatwaves and droughts are fuelling wildfires, with $16 billion in damage last year in the U.S. West.

Floods in China were the most costly individual loss at $17 billion, but only 2% of the damage was insured.
