The Feast of Trumpets is almost upon us. It is good to reflect on God’s guidance and ultimate victory. The world is so far away from the righteous decency that He has laid out for us it’s hard to know where to start. In spite of that, we can still be thankful for His truth, His word and the tremendous blessings we still enjoy.

This is all the more poignant as we reflect on the events of 9/11/2001. Most of us can remember where we were that day. My grandfather was actually airborne when the attack took place, en route to a reunion. His plane was grounded. Instead of continuing on his trip he returned home to be able to address the situation on TV and in print. As far away as that day seems at times the effects are still with us. In many ways it was a pivotal moment.

It is not insignificant that we still find ourselves embroiled in the turmoils of the Middle East. However most people may feel about our conflict with Iran, there is no doubt that they would inflict that and more on us again if given the chance.

Things got hot around Hormuz again this week. The announcement that the former passageway was clear of mine prompted Iran to try and launch more from shore, which is not exactly the ideal method. It has escalated from there, with attacks and reprisals rippling across the region.

The idea that oil and goods were flowing again essentially spells doom for Iran. Control of the Strait is leverage they need to retain relevance and their grip on power. Analysts debate how much oil is currently flowing. Ships transiting with their transponders on are few and far between, but this does not tell the whole tale. Most switch off and proceed with escort, and pipelines bypassing the strait have contributed a great deal.

This is why we see the Houthis on full offense over the last days, seizing an important island, with the encouragement and backing of Iran. Added pressure in the Red Sea keeps the trouble alive, and has indeed contributed to a spike in oil prices this week. Iraqi militias also struck a major Saudi pipeline. The Saudis have asked the US to intervene, but the feeling is we would prefer to have them step up and do their own dirty work. Time will tell.

There is plenty to be on alert about but we can thank God for the opportunity to pause on this double Sabbath Day and look forward to the time when all of these problems will be behind us.

DUBAI/CAIRO, July 20 – Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis said on Monday they were imposing a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, a move that opens a new front against the United States in its war on Iran and widens the threat to global energy supplies and trade beyond the Gulf.

Iran had pressed the Houthis to close the Bab el-Mandeb gateway to the Red Sea if the U.S. continued to attack Iranian power infrastructure.

In their statement, the Houthis’ armed forces said they were declaring “a maritime embargo against the criminal Saudi enemy, based on the equation of ‘an eye for an eye’, effective immediately…”

Sanaa, Yemen – A leading official with Yemen’s Houthi rebels, officially known as Ansar Allah, has threatened a “siege” on Saudi Arabia in retaliation for an attack on Sanaa International Airport. The Houthis blamed Saudi Arabia for the Monday attack, but Yemen’s internationally recognised government has claimed responsibility, saying that it was a measure to prevent an Iranian plane from landing in Yemen’s Houthi-controlled capital.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, a member of the Houthi political bureau, said that the group would respond to attacks they perceived to be from Saudi Arabia.

The Israeli military said it had targeted an energy infrastructure site that was used by the Iran-aligned Houthis south of the Yemeni capital Sanaa early on Sunday, with Israeli media saying the Haziz power station had been hit.

A military statement said Israeli forces “struck… deep inside Yemen, targeting an energy infrastructure site that served the Houthi terrorist regime” in the area of Yemen’s rebel-held capital Sanaa, without naming the site.

The Houthis’ Al-Masirah TV, citing a civil defence source, reported “an aggression targeting the Haziz power plant” south of Sanaa.

The white smoke poured out of the Vatican chimney signifying they had chosen a new pope. Forgive me for not capitalizing the title. Having read some of his writings, one can’t help wonder if they chose him to blunt the effectiveness of you know who. Some of the stuff he’s put out makes you wonder whose side he’s on.  Not ours.  

I suspect the persuasions of these little goofballs. I know, it’s the “great“ Catholic church, but I don’t think it’s rooting for us.

Looking on the bright side, Trump says it’s a great honor to have an American pope. When asked if he would visit, he said they’ve already called. But the pope wrote that we should show deference to the illegal invaders, so I guess it’s a sin to deport them. “Where is your compassion?” liberals always want to know. It’s not about compassion, it’s about loyalty and wanting our children and grandchildren to enjoy the blessings we’ve had and more.

You look at these polls, and what do you think? Either half or more of the people hate everything the Trump administration is doing, and if they could engineer an economic crisis, they would. In fact if you read the mainstream news you’d think Trump has already failed. The mainstream reports that over half of the respondents think Trump has got it all wrong. I don’t put much stock in the polls. Or the mainstream media. They’re all freaking out as if on cue. We’ll see how this battle shakes out but it doesn’t look good for the mainstream. 

India and Pakistan are acknowledged members of the nuclear club and both seem destined to get into a scuffle. A Nuclear Scuffle.  

Everybody’s holding their breath. While we may be looking forward to a marvelous new age where Americans don’t have to solve every problem, India and Pakistan are threatening each other, and that’s all we need, both being nuclear powers. Don’t make us send the President over there! Nobody’s going to like the solution, but they better straighten up and fly right so we don’t have to get involved. Otherwise…

Have you noticed, you can never take the President’s first reaction to a problem. Years ago he wrote “The Art of the Deal”. I actually had a copy. His first reaction is not his last.  Just simmer down, he’ll probably adjust things till they make sense.

Who knows what’s going on in Gaza. In hindsight, the attack on Israel was a big mistake, and one they can’t take back.  But look what it has done!  Not only did it secure our vision of these animals, but they had to flee. Not many places want them, and most of the Arab world was happy letting them confront the Israelis. That’s all over now. They’ve lost Gaza and had to move to tents on the Egyptian border. That’s not what they had in mind. We don’t understand, because the western mind cannot understand thousands of years of indoctrination and insanity. These people are crazy! They think their passion can win the day. But it doesn’t work that way, somebody should tell them from a safe distance.

Last we heard the Houthis were menacing ships in the Red Sea. We’re not going to put up with that nonsense anymore.And they’ve quit, not wanting to see Nirvana just yet.

That’s not everything, but things are moving so fast, who can include everything? The world better realize that we’ve got someone who wants America to survive, rather than tweak things to their liking. Our Constitution, our history are things we rather like, and don’t need some interloper coming along and putting some spin on it.

Trump announced the ceasefire with the Iranian-backed rebel terrorists Tuesday to stunned reporters at a press event in the White House with visiting Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, saying the Houthis had become tired of fighting and offered to stop attacking shipping in the Red Sea. He said that the U.S. would stop bombing Houthi targets in Yemen as a result, effective “immediately.”

Houthi spokesmen confirmed the deal, which apparently had been made via mediators in Oman and U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. The Houthis hastened to add that they would continue attacking Israel, which was not included in the deal.
