Israel forms emergency government against Hamas as deaths and damage in Gaza mount

JERUSALEM/GAZA/WASHINGTON, Oct 11 (Reuters) – Israel formed an emergency unity government on Wednesday as its jets pounded Gaza and tanks massed around the densely populated Palestinian enclave while Hamas militants said they were still fighting on Israeli territory following their shock weekend incursion.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to form a war cabinet with former defence minister and centrist opposition party leader Benny Gantz and focus entirely on the conflict, a joint statement from Gantz’s National Unity party said.

Israel’s death toll rose to 1,200 with over 2,700 wounded, its military said, from Hamas militants’ hours-long rampage after breaching the fence enclosing Gaza on Saturday.

U.S. President Joe Biden has issued a warning seemingly aimed at Hamas’ Iranian supporters not to exploit the Gaza conflagration to start a wider Middle East war.

Israeli reprisal strikes on blockaded Gaza have killed 1,100 people and wounded 5,339, Gaza’s Health Ministry said. Some 535 residential buildings had been destroyed leaving around 250,000 homeless, Hamas officials said. Most of the displaced were in U.N.-designated shelters, others huddling in shattered streets.

Gaza City: Israeli jets launched airstrikes on Gaza overnight Thursday to Friday after militants in the Palestinian territory again launched incendiary balloons into southern Israel, the army and AFP journalists said.

“Over the past day, arson balloons were launched from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory,” Israel’s military said in a statement.

“In response… fighter jets struck military compounds and a rocket launch site belonging to the Hamas terror organization.”

AFP journalists in the Palestinian enclave also reported hearing explosions, which the army said hit sites in both Gaza City, and in Khan Yunis, in the south of Gaza.

The fire balloons and airstrikes are the latest violence testing a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza’s Hamas rulers that came into place in May 21, ending 11 days of heavy fighting.

Palestinian militants in Gaza launched balloons for a third day running on Thursday, according to Israeli firefighters battling the blazes sparked by the devices.

After firebombs sparked blazes on Tuesday, Israel’s military launched a retaliatory wave of strikes early Wednesday, then launched a second round of strikes overnight Thursday to Friday.

The balloons are basic devices intended to set fire to farmland and bush surrounding the Gaza enclave.

Israel army chief Aviv Kohavi late Thursday issued orders to “increase the IDF’s (Israeli Defence Force’s) readiness and preparedness for a variety of scenarios including a resumption of hostilities,” the army statement read.

“The IDF will continue to strike military capabilities and infrastructure belonging to the terror organization and holds the Hamas as responsible for all events transpiring in the Gaza Strip,” the statement added.

Gaza unrest: Fire balloons, airstrikes mark a new round of violence in Israel

Israel’s Defense Forces launched a counterattack into Gaza after a balloon attack sent incendiary devices floating into southern Israel.

The counterstrike, which happened Tuesday evening in the U.S. and early Wednesday morning local time, targeted Hamas military compounds, according to the IDF.

“The Hamas terror organization is responsible for all events transpiring in the Gaza Strip, and will bear the consequences for its actions,” the military said in a statement. “The IDF is prepared for any scenario, including a resumption of hostilities, in the face of continuing terror activities from the Gaza Strip.”

Authorities on both sides said there were no injuries, the Times of Israel reported.

Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah coordinated Gaza fighting in joint war room — report

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Hezbollah coordinated with Hamas on the recent fighting in Gaza between Palestinian terrorists and Israel, according to the editor-in-chief of a Lebanese daily affiliated with Hezbollah.

Ibrahim Al-Amine, editor of the pro-Hezbollah Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar, told Hezbollah’s Al-Manar network over the weekend that during the 11-days of fighting in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, officers from the IRGC, Hamas, and Hezbollah set up a joint military operations center in Beirut.

The commander of the IRGC’s overseas Quds Force, Esmail Ghaani, visited the operations center twice during the military hostilities, according to Al-Amine.

The newspaper editor claimed Hezbollah sent weapons and ammunition to Gaza and “moved a number of Palestinian resistance officers out of the Strip during the aggression,” according to Al-Manar.

Palestinian factions were also provided with data on the movements of Israeli forces, Al-Amine asserted, asserting drones were used to prevent Israel from springing an “ambush” on terror operatives along the border.

He also said if Israel “expanded its aggression, the entire axis of resistance would have confronted it,” referring to Iran and its regional proxies.

Al-Amine’s comments came days after Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, said Hamas coordinated with the IRGC and Hezbollah throughout the fighting, in a press conference quoted by Israel’s Kan news.

Sinwar also said there was “full coordination between the resistance in Lebanon and resistance in Gaza,” referring to several rockets fired at Israel from Lebanon during the conflict.

The Israeli military blamed several of the rocket attacks from Lebanon on Palestinian factions in the country, not the Hezbollah terror group. However, it is unlikely that terrorists in southern Lebanon would be able to fire rockets without at least the tacit approval of the Iran-backed militia, which maintains a tight degree of control over southern Lebanon.

Meanwhile, Ghaani on Saturday issued fresh threats against Israel.

“I’d advise all Zionists to go back and repurchase the houses they have sold in Europe, the US, and elsewhere to come to the Palestinian territories before the houses become more expensive than today,” he said, according to the Tasnim news agency.

During the conflict in Gaza, known in Israel as “Operation Guardian of the Walls,” Iranian state television reported that Ghaani spoke by phone with Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh to laud the Islamist terror organization’s attacks on Israel.

The fighting in the Strip, which erupted on May 10 after Hamas fired rockets at Jerusalem amid escalating Israeli-Palestinian tensions in the city, ended last week with a ceasefire between Israel and the Gaza-ruling terror group.

Thirteen people were killed in Israel, all but one of them civilians, including a 5-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl. Some 357 people in Israel were wounded. Terror groups in Gaza fired more than 4,300 rockets at Israel during the fighting.

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza said at least 243 Palestinians were killed, including 66 children and teens, with 1,910 people wounded. It does not differentiate between terror group members and civilians. The Israeli military maintained that it killed some 225 terrorist operatives and that the Palestinian death toll was in fact considerably higher than was reported. It also said some of the civilian fatalities were caused by Hamas rockets falling short and landing in the Strip.

Biden tries to claim credit for cease-fire between Israel and Hamas

‘You know, we’ve held intensive, high-level discussions, hour by hour, literally.’

President Biden sought to take credit for a cease-fire Thursday between Israel and Hamas, despite reports that it was Egypt that brokered the peace.

Biden, who spoke at the White House, included a sentence in his remarks commending Egyptian officials for their “critical role” in ending the fighting. But he repeatedly emphasized the intensive work he said was done by his own administration.

“Over the last 11 days, I spoke with the prime minister six times. I’ve also spoken with President Abbas and the Palestinian Authority more the once and part of our intense diplomatic engagement,” Biden said, “And I want to also thank secretary of state, the secretary of defense, our national security adviser, and everyone on our team for their incredible efforts to bring this about, this outcome that we’re about to see.

“You know, we’ve held intensive, high-level discussions, hour by hour, literally, Egypt, the Palestinian Authority and other Middle Eastern countries, with an aim of avoiding this sort of prolonged conflict we’ve seen in previous years when the hostilities have broken out.”

Biden vowed to help Israel replenish its Iron Dome system and to work with the Palestinian Authority to rebuild Gaza.

Biden said he’d spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the cease-fire and commended him on his decision to bring hostilities to a close.

“The United States fully supports Israel’s right to defend itself against indiscriminate rocket attacks from Hamas,” Biden said.

Biden said the prime minister had also shared his appreciation for the Iron Dome system, Israel’s missile defense that was built with help from the U.S. Biden said the system “has saved the lives of countless Israeli citizens, Arab and Jew.

“I assured him of my full support to replenish Israel’s Iron Dome system to ensure its defenses and security in the future,” Biden said.

Biden said he’d also spoken with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who is a member of the Fatah Party rather than Hamas.

ISRAEL OFFICIALS APPROVE CEASE-FIRE WITH HAMAS

“I send my sincere condolences to all the families, Israeli and Palestinian, who have lost loved ones and my hope for a full recovery for the wounded,” he continued. “The United States committed to working with the United Nations, and we remain committed to working with the United Nations and other international stakeholders to provide rapid humanitarian assistance and to marshal international support for the people of Gaza and the Gaza reconstruction efforts.”

“We will do this in full partnership with the Palestinian Authority, not Hamas, Palestinian Authority, in a manner that does not permit Hamas to simply restock its military arsenal.”

The deadly fighting that erupted after heightened tensions left at least 12 Israelis and 230 Palestinians dead in the crossfire in the worst breakout of violence since the 2014 Gaza war, according to reports.

Greetings from Tyler,

Isn’t it wonderful? The mouth of mush has claimed that he and his minders have solved the violent exchange of firepower between Gaza and Israel. Dig deeper and you will find out that General Sisi of Egypt is the one who brokered the deal. Meanwhile the mainstream is mightily impressed, or expects us to be, that some demanding phone calls from the White House brought about a cessation of carnage. The mainstream reports would lead one to conclude the Israelis were the instigators of the rocket, air raid and artillery exchange. Wrong.

Who manufactured the new and improved missiles? Iran. Who smuggled them to the terrorists? Iran. Who’s demanding conditions be met before the fraudulent administration be allowed to re-enter the disastrous Iran Nuclear Deal? Same answer.

Now it is being suggested, everywhere but in the mainstream media, that China is working behind the scenes to undermine the Western way of life. Has China funded the riots and B L M (alternatively known as burn, loot murder)? One report claims that over $900,000 in one-dollar bills was intercepted at the Canadian border. Can you guess where they were printed? Is China waging a war against the U. S. internally, all the while playing the innocent victim of the same virus that has wrecked lives everywhere? There just might be something to it, but the social media set will try to make sure you never find out. The current leadership is in no position to cry foul, after having been enriched in dubious foreign dealings with our tormentors. Will anything ever be adjudicated honestly? Not while the “big guy” and his teleprompter screeds call the tune.

There seems to be some movement on the dubious election. Not only is there an on-again, off-again audit underway in Arizona, a judge in Georgia has ruled that one should take place there too. Every legal maneuver has been undertaken to stop any forensic analysis of the 2020 presidential election, with national agencies even trying to intervene. Apparently there’s nothing for us to see and social media bosses are doing everything in their power to be certain that no unapproved information goes viral.

But what if? What if these audits result in proof that the results were falsified? Is there some controlling legal authority that could set things right? That’s the 64,000 dollar question without an answer.

Trillions in “government money” are being mailed all over creation as if in a mad dash to kill the golden goose. Whether there will be anything left to save, or anyone to save it is up in the air. We can’t even keep up with all the astronomical sums that are being distributed. Nearly every business doorway has a sign announcing they are hiring. But they can’t find applicants! Why should anybody ever go back to work while the government is paying everybody to stay home? They’re still chasing us around over the Covid scare. Over a year after we thought “two weeks to flatten the curve” was harmless enough, a battle over masks and so-called vaccinations is raging.

We sure hope this medical miracle is harmless. After all, people we know and love have taken the jab in the hopes of living a normal life. But there are rumblings that some are not doing particularly well after having submitted. The platform we use to distribute sermons has issued a “warning” based on some concerns that we’ve expressed. Asking the wrong questions, or perish the though, expressing unapproved opinions can get you (or us) banished from polite discourse. Or in this case, sermon distribution.

Everything under the sun has been claimed as “infrastructure.” That somehow justifies untold sums, backed by thin air, flying in all directions. We’re in a war all right, but maybe we’ve been slow to realize it. Every lesson of recent history has been thrown out the window. The media and the government will decide what you think, and straying into unapproved territory will be met with consequences. We can hardly wait for these demonic forces to meet their Maker. But we will.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is warning Hamas on Friday that his military will respond with a “new level of force” if the terrorist group decides to start firing rockets into Israel again.

Netanyahu made the comment hours after a cease-fire between the two sides went into effect, ending an 11-day conflict that left at least 243 Palestinians and a dozen Israelis dead, according to The Associated Press.

“If Hamas thinks we will tolerate a drizzle of rockets, it is wrong,” the Israeli leader said, adding that his military would strike back with “a new level of force against any expression of aggression against communities around Gaza and any other part of Israel.”

Thousands reportedly took to the streets in Gaza early Friday morning to celebrate the cease-fire, which went into effect around 2 a.m. local time (7 p.m. ET Thursday).

Young men waved Palestinian and Hamas flags while honking horns and setting off fireworks, as other celebrations erupted in east Jerusalem and the West Bank, The Associated Press reports.

German foreign minister due in Israel, Palestine

BERLIN

Germany’s foreign minister is scheduled to travel to Israel and the West Bank for political talks late Wednesday night amid the escalating Gaza conflict.

“I am planning to travel to Israel for talks in Jerusalem and Ramallah later tonight,” Heiko Maas told reporters in Berlin.

According to a Foreign Ministry statement, Maas will meet with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, his Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi, and Defense Minister Benny Gantz.

In Ramallah he is slated to meet with Mohammad Shtayyeh, the Palestinian Authority prime minister.

Talks will focus on the current escalation in the Middle East and international efforts to end the violence.

Germany is a staunch ally of Israel and has repeatedly supported Tel Aviv’s military aggression on Gaza, claiming that Israel is exercising its right to self-defense.

Meanwhile, a German Foreign Ministry spokesperson has called for a cease-fire in the Gaza conflict amid the mounting death toll, especially among Palestinian civilians.

“We are trying to get both sides to first have a truce and then a cease-fire,” Andrea Sasse told reporters.

Despite the growing violence – now in its tenth day – diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire have failed to make much progress.

The US continues to block the UN Security Council from issuing a joint statement urging an end to the hostilities, telling diplomats that a public statement would not help calm the tensions.

Berlin has repeatedly ruled out direct talks with the Palestinian group Hamas, which governs the Gaza strip.

At least 227 Palestinians, including 64 children, have been killed in Israeli military airstrikes on Gaza since the latest violence erupted on May 10. About 1,620 Palestinians have been injured.

Twelve people in Israel have died, while nearly 300 Israelis have been wounded, according to local media reports.
