UK defence intelligence officials have no evidence Chinese soldiers captured fighting for Putin have links to the Chinese government, it is understood.

Volodymyr Zelensky has alleged that Chinese soldiers have joined Russia’s war effort, two of whom have been taken prisoner by Ukrainian forces.

Kyiv’s forces engaged in battle with six Chinese troops in Donetsk, the Ukrainian president said, adding that Ukraine believes there are “many more Chinese citizens in the occupier’s units than just these two”.

]]> Russia suffered its deadliest day in the war Monday — losing 1,950 soldiers in a failed attempt to retake Kursk from Ukrainian troops, Kyiv officials said.

The Russian forces saw their assault whipped out by Kyiv troops who continue to hold onto most of the land taken during their surprise counter-invasion in August, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Yesterday was truly a black day for the Russian occupiers who tried to storm in five to six waves,” said Anastasia Blyshchyk, a spokesman for the 7th Separate Mechanized Brigade.

“The Russians tried to attack with vehicles, with paratroopers, and storm Ukrainian settlements. However, ten units of armored vehicles were destroyed by the warriors of the 47th Brigade,” he added, according to the Kyiv Post.

]]> The Kremlin has amassed 50,000 Russian and North Korean troops ready to be deployed to the Kursk region to retake the territory seized by Ukraine in its surprise incursion earlier this year, officials said.

The full-force attack from Moscow and Pyongyang troops is expected in the coming days as US and Ukrainian officials confirm sightings of North Korean soldiers training and being deployed in Kursk, the New York Times reported.

Officials fear the attack would undo all the progress Kyiv has made in Russia, with the Kremlin’s forces already making slow but steady advances in Kursk and in eastern Ukraine.

]]> Euronews takes a closer look into what we know so far about the ongoing cross-border Ukrainian assault in Russia’s Kursk region that began on Tuesday.

In the past, Ukrainian forces have launched a few incursions into Russian territory, with the most recent being in March this year, when three anti-Kremlin armed units crossed into Belgorod and Kursk regions from Ukraine, allegedly resulting in clashes with Russian forces in several settlements.

All of those incursions were almost immediately followed by relentless attacks on the regional capital of Sumy and the region.
