The Mediterranea Saving Humans (MSH) group said in a Facebook post that the case had been sent to trial and hearings would start on October 21 against three top representatives and the captain and three crew from one of the vessels its uses.

According to prosecutors, the AP Moeller-Maersk shipping giant paid 125,000 euros ($140,000) to the Idra company that oversees MSH, just after the group took 27 migrants off one of the Danish carrier’s ships in September 2020.

The migrants had been stuck on the vessel for more than one month.

The companies filed their lawsuit in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, arguing that the law violates the U.S. Constitution on a number of grounds including running afoul of First Amendment free speech protections. The law, signed by Biden on April 24, gives ByteDance until Jan. 19 to sell TikTok or face a ban.

“For the first time in history, Congress has enacted a law that subjects a single, named speech platform to a permanent, nationwide ban,” the companies said in the lawsuit.

The White House and U.S. Justice Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

A second whistleblower has died under mysterious circumstances, just two months after another one allegedly shot himself in the head — and the attorneys for both men hope their deaths don’t scare away the at least 10 more whistleblowers who want the company to clean up its act.

Joshua Dean, 45, a former quality auditor at Spirit AeroSystems, which assembles fuselage sections for Boeing, died Tuesday morning from a fast-growing mystery infection.

Dean’s death comes less than two months after Boeing whistleblower John Barnett, 62, died from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound on March 9.

Barnett, who had worked for Boeing for 32 years, was found dead in his Dodge Ram truck holding a silver pistol in his hand in the parking lot of his South Carolina hotel after he failed to show up for the second part of his testimony for a bombshell lawsuit against the company.

At the same time, Boeing said last month that it lost $355 million on falling revenue in the first quarter, another sign of the crisis gripping the aircraft manufacturer as it faces increasing scrutiny over the safety of its planes and accusations of shoddy work from a growing number of surviving whistleblowers.

The U.S. retailer said in court papers filed Tuesday that investor Brian Craig merely disagrees with Target’s business decisions, and has no evidence the company misled investors about its approach to social and political risks.

“The securities laws protect investors against being defrauded; they are neither vehicles for expressing disapproval, nor do they insure investors against ordinary market losses,” Target said.

Craig is represented by America First Legal, a nonprofit headed by Stephen Miller, a former adviser to ex-President Donald Trump.

Maui county sued the Hawaiian Electric company on Thursday over the fires that devastated Lahaina, saying the utility negligently failed to shut off power despite exceptionally high winds and dry conditions.

Witness accounts and video indicated that sparks from power lines ignited fires as utility poles snapped in the winds, which were driven by a passing hurricane. The 8 August fire killed at least 115 people and left an unknown number of others missing.

A spokesperson for Hawaiian Electric didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

Had the utility heeded weather service “warnings and de-energized their powerlines during the predicted high-wind gusts, this destruction could have been avoided”, the lawsuit said.
