Donald Trump’s no racist, as past acts and presidential record prove

Donald Trump is no racist. I have known him since 1973 and have never seen any indication or any form of racism. In fact, quite the contrary.

When I was Manhattan Borough president and president of the New York City Council, I asked him numerous times to help black or Hispanic groups, and he always came through, many times without publicity. When a hurricane ravished Puerto Rico in the mid 1980s, I asked many big companies to give various forms of assistance — but the problem was how to get all of this aid down to Puerto Rico. I called Donald Trump, and he provided us with a 727 jet to take all of the donated material down to the island, and he didn’t ask for any publicity for that generous act.

My friend, Rev. Floyd Flake, the minister of the largest black church in Queens, asked for some help for his senior center. Again, I called Donald Trump and he wrote a big check.

One day I met an African American woman on the street with her two adorable young kids. She was homeless, and I gave her some money — and then asked Donald to get her into some low-income housing in Queens. He came through, and did so without any fanfare.

When President Trump recently attacked Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), he was not doing so because Rep. Cummings is black but because the president is a counter-puncher. And he is right that Cummings has been a congressman for 22 years and that Baltimore, part of which is in his congressional district, is a mess. The city has gotten worse during his tenure: more poverty, more drugs and more crime.

The president is honest and doesn’t parse his words, like most politicians, and that drives the media crazy. But his honesty is refreshing, and he is usually right, if not always diplomatic.

African American and Hispanic unemployment under his presidency is the lowest it has been in 60 years. The president pushed through criminal justice reform and has created empowerment zones that help economically distressed communities — and their poorer residents — through tax incentives and grants. In short, he has done more for minorities in three years than President Obama did in eight, and he deserves credit instead of rebuke.

I truly do not believe that Barack Obama is a racist — but some of his actions during his presidency could make people wonder.

Obama listened to Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s vile sermons every Sunday for years; Rev. Wright frequently and viciously attacked whites, Jews and America itself.

Barack Obama had many meetings in Chicago with Rev. Louis Farrakhan and said many nice things about the Nation of Islam leader. He attended many of Farrakhan’s rallies, where Farrakhan set a new low for anti-Semitic attacks, calling Jews a “gutter religion” and white people “devils.”

In addition, President Obama had Rev. Al Sharpton, one of the country’s highest-profile race-baiters, as a guest in the White House dozens of times.

In order to protect President Obama, the media largely ignored these and many other questionable things — but these things happened, and they are far worse than anything President Trump has done.

The point is that President Obama was not a racist but he did things that could be construed as racially divisive — and yet, he was never widely criticized for it, nor was he publicly condemned as a racist. President Trump is not a racist, either — and yet, he is being condemned as one by his critics on the left, and by much of the mainstream media.

Race should not play a part in our politics. For too long, it has been a scar on our country. We should focus instead on the issues, and on what’s going to help make America strong for everyone.

Farrakhan claims to be Jesus in ‘Saviours’ Day’ address: ‘I am the Messiah’

Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who has reportedly led a chant of “death to America” and recently called for a separate state for black Americans, has made more controversial comments, claiming to be Jesus and clarifying his “anti-termite” statement.

Farrakhan made many shocking claims during NOI’s Saviours’ Day keynote address in February at the United Center arena in Chicago. He told Rep. Ilhan Omar “you have nothing to apologize for,” and he praised her fellow colleague freshman, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The preacher of Islam then appeared to mock one of the most famous passages from the Bible, John 3:16:

Instead, he said, Jesus’s name would live until the one that came that he was prefigured for.

“The real story is what I tried to tell you from the beginning. It didn’t happen back there. It’s happening right while you’re alive looking at it,” Farrakhan told the audience. “I represent the Messiah. I represent the Jesus and I am that Jesus. If I am not, take my life.”

Farrakhan said he makes the deaf hear and dumb speak, and he added: “when I made the call in 1995 to Black people, with the Million Man March, that was like Jesus calling Lazarus and Lazarus came forth.”

He said the cross is for him.

“Some of you do today reject because the white man told you I’m an evil man, I’m a hater, I’m an anti-Semite. I hate Jewish people, I hate gay people. Here I am in front of you. I represent the Jesus that saves. I don’t represent somebody that came to judge you and me for our errors and mistakes…Everywhere I went I found myself rejected. My black people, they accepted me. But now white people are frightening the hell out of black people. College presidents are punished for allowing me or anyone that represents me to come on the college campus because they fear what’s in my mouth from my teacher the Honorable Elijah Muhammad.”

Farrakhan said the “anti-termite” reference was not to all Jews but “the richest 10 percent of Americans” who own “84 percent of all stocks.”

Farrakhan has a long history of anti-Semitic comments. Last year, he lost his verified status on Twitter after posting a video in which he asked: “I wonder, will you see the Satanic Jew and the Synagogue of Satan, which has many races in it because Satan has deceived the whole world?” Farrakhan has also said that he is not an anti-Semite, but rather “anti-termite,” and led a “Death to Israel” chant during a visit to Iran in November.

In January, Farrakhan posted a clip from a 2015 interview to Instagram in which he called for a separate nation-state for black Americans, saying: “Most of our people don’t want it here … God has something else for us.”

Third Annual Women’s March Marked by Antisemitism among its leadership

WASHINGTON – A national movement for women’s rights gathered for the third time in the capital on Saturday under cloudy skies and the shadow of an antisemitism crisis gripping its leadership.

Tens of thousands showed for the Washington event, paired with solidarity marches across the country. But turnout was muted compared to years past as organizers in Boston, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles bemoaned the organizational challenges caused by the refusal of Women’s March leaders to condemn all forms of antisemitism, and to recognize Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state.

Tamika Mallory, Linda Sarsour and Carmen Perez – three of the original organizers of the activist event, which in 2017 culminated in the largest march in American history – repeatedly declined to condemn Louis Farrakhan in a series of interviews this week.

Farrakhan has called Jews his “termite” enemies and openly calls for Israel’s destruction. All three women have endorsed his politics in the recent past.

While the founder of the Women’s March last year called on its controversial cochairs to step down, they declined, and instead added to the official Women’s March agenda a defense of the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement of Israel.

The scandal forced Democrats who had proudly aligned themselves with the march in 2017 to distance themselves from the movement ahead of Saturday’s events. Few sitting lawmakers attended any of the marches, save for New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who conditioned her appearance at an Iowa march earlier in the week.

Gillibrand “strongly condemns antisemitism from anyone, in all forms, and believes it has no place in a movement for women’s empowerment or anywhere else,” said a spokesman for the senator, who last week announced her candidacy for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

The Human Rights Campaign and Amnesty International disassociated themselves from the march this year, and even the Democratic National Committee removed itself from its list of partners. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi – the only woman ever to hold that position, third in line to the presidency – also declined to participate.

“While I still firmly believe in its values and mission, I cannot associate with the national march’s leaders and principles, which refuse to completely repudiate antisemitism and all forms of bigotry,” Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who once chaired the DNC and had marched in the past, said.

And national media coverage of Saturday’s events focused intensively on the antisemitism crisis, with CNN, The New York Times and The Washington Post, among others, leading their stories detailing the effects of the controversy on the movement.

Mallory, who two years ago posed for photos with Farrakhan after an antisemitic speech, appeared on The View on Monday and declined when pressed to condemn his remarks. “That is not my language,” she said.

Sarsour – who has come under fire herself for espousing antisemitism – defended Mallory on Friday, claiming that The View hosts had put her in a “difficult position” by pressing her to condemn Farrakhan.

“We understand that there will be schisms,” Sarsour told ABC News, acknowledging that the movement had requested access to smaller venues for their marchers this year. “There’s going to be hard conversations that need to be had. So we will work through this as a women’s movement because we are focused on what the real threat to this country is, and it is this administration and white supremacy.”

Later in the week, appearing with Margaret Hoover on PBS’s Firing Line, Mallory said Palestinians are “native to the land” of historic Palestine but declined to say the same of Jews in Israel. “I’m not Jewish,” she said.

“I have said many times that I feel everyone has a right to exist, I just don’t feel anyone has a right to exist at the disposal of another group,” Mallory said.

“Does that include Israel and Israelis?” Hoover pressed.

“I’m done talking about this,” Mallory replied.

Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, a notorious anti-Semite who recently compared Jewish people to termites, led a “Death to America” chant Sunday during a solidarity trip to Iran.

Farrakhan’s trip came ahead of the Trump administration’s re-implementation of U.S. sanctions against the Islamic Republic on Monday.

Speaking to law school students at the University of Tehran, the 85-year-old Farrakhan said “America has never been a democracy,” and also led a “Death to Israel” chant at the end of his talk, according to Iranian news agencies.

“Today, I warn the American government that sanctioning Iran is a big mistake,” he said at a meeting with the Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council, Mohsen Rezaei. Farrakhan noted his belief America is conspiring against Iran.

Farrakhan’s trip coincided with the 39th anniversary of the 1979 seizure of the U.S. embassy in Tehran, when more than 50 American diplomats and civilians were held hostage for 444 days. The incident kicked off the Islamic Revolution, and Farrakhan told an Iranian audience that black Americans should be considered among the revolutionaries. The infamous activist cited the actions of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khomeni, who ordered the release of black Americans among the 1979 captives.

Video of Farrakhan leading a “Death to America” chant once again sparked calls for Democratic leaders to distance themselves from the controversial figure. Several prominent Democrats, including former President Barack Obama, have interacted or taken pictures with Farrakhan.

Israeli activist, Hen Mazzig, tweeted out video of the “Death to America” chant.
