It’s been quite a week. A shooting at Brown University, leaving two dead and many others injured, quickly turned into a days-long manhunt. It resolved with an apparent suicide but was also soon linked to the murder of a former classmate and MIT professor, leaving more questions than answers.

The world was treated to Vladimir Putin’s year end press conference. It painted a rosy picture of strength and resilience but perhaps more importantly an overriding determination to bring the war in Ukraine to a close on their terms.

Meanwhile, the EU has waffled on its outspoken desire to use frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine. It was a public humiliation for both Chancellor Merz of Germany and the President of the EU, Ursula von der Leyen. Both had pushed the plan hard, with Merz declaring there was “no alternative.” There was, but it starts with a D and ends with an EBT.

Ultimately, they borrowed to provide the desired funding. Belgium, where the majority of the Russian funds are held, balked at releasing them without an unlimited commitment to shared legal liability for doing so. This was a bridge too far for their European peers. Hungary proposed a way out of the impasse. It exempted them and a few others who protested for assuming any of the debt burden but allowed their colleagues to proceed as they desired.

The US has been flexing its military might. An attack that killed and wounded US troops in Syria has been responded to by strikes on numerous locations. This in cooperation with the new regime in Syria. A Venezuelan tanker carrying sanctioned oil was also seized this week, drawing strong rebukes from Maduro and others.

Trump has since announced a full blockade against vessels transporting these products. The majority of them sail to “teapot” refineries in China that are immune to international sanctions, but the same vessels also supply Cuba and are often part of the “shadow fleet” that transports Russian and Iranian crude. A conflict of some sort is certainly brewing.

The saddest news of all was the massacre at Bondi Beach in Australia. With 15 dead and many more wounded the country is grappling with a multitude of issues, chief among which are gun control and unassimilated migrants. The attack was perpetrated by a father, who held an Indian passport, and a son, who had been investigated for his links to radical Islam.

Being from Texas, where you expect everyone to be armed, it seems a tragedy that an event like this could transpire for so long without being met by equal force. The heroic intervention of another (unarmed) Muslim immigrant likely saved many lives, yet there has been considerable backlash online- as if he is a traitor to his race or religion for saving life. How appalling.

It’s abhorrent. All know by now that the targets of this heinous attack were Jews commemorating the beginning of Hanukkah, which celebrates the cleansing of the temple after it was defiled by Antiochus Epiphanes. While not a Holy Day ordained by God, Christ Himself is recorded as being at the Temple during this time in John 10:22. With the Sabbath upon us, it gives us pause to consider the general attitude toward those who do observe God’s annual Holy Days and what the future may hold.

Australia has suffered its worst mass shooting since the Port Arthur massacre in 1996, with at least 16 people killed in a horrific terror attack at Bondi Beach during Hanukkah celebrations.

One of the gunmen was killed and another was taken into custody, while NSW Police have begun investigating the possibility of a third attacker.

Twenty-nine people have also been hospitalised, including two police officers who were shot in the shocking act of violence.

NSW Police confirmed that the incident had been declared a terror attack, with the event unfolding during the first day of Jewish Hanukkah on Sunday.

Police have identified the suspect who they say opened fire outside of a church at a Catholic school in Minneapolis, killing two children and injuring 18 others, as 23-year-old Robin Westman.

An 8-year-old and 10-year-old were shot and killed when the gunman fired through the windows of a church at the Annunciation Catholic School on Wednesday morning, police said.

The shooter died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said.

One horror displaces another.  Now we have something else to be torn up about.  Out of the clear blue, a mass shooter steals the headlines.  If somebody in the bowling alley had been carrying, a whole bunch of people would still be alive and there wouldn’t be swarms of law enforcement personnel scouring the woods. These guys better hope this lunatic never had access to any military firepower.  

Israel seems to be taking a very cautious approach to invading Gaza on the ground. No doubt their top echelon have been counseled by American diplomats who’ve warned of every scenario. We heard that a ground invasion was “imminent” two weeks ago, as if Israel was going in guns blazing in a fit of righteous fury. Not that it wouldn’t have been justified.

But there are hostages.  Very few have been released.  This game could go on for years at this rate.  The mainstream networks are really impressed with the supplies that have been afforded the hostages.  From personal experience, the Arab culture is one of the most gracious you’ll ever come across.  Maybe to a fault.  It’s probably different when you’re a hostage.

It’s the same old story.  “People go crazy”.  That’s the argument.  “It’s Israel’s fault they’ve gone insane, but that’s what happens. Yes there are atrocities, but they’ve been driven crazy under the occupation of the Zionists!”

There have been demonstrations all over the world, but most notably here in the United States.  People came out in droves to chant the talking points and defend the invasion.  Personally, I don’t want to see the pictures or body-cam footage of what these soulless bastards did.  But these people waving the flags in the street and chanting about occupation need to see them.  Maybe they can see what they’re defending.

History has already been written.  We’re not going to go back to 1947 and rescind the UN resolution that created Israel.  It’s too late.  War against Israel by the Arab states has never yielded the desired results.  But this is a new generation.  They weren’t alive during the Six Day War, and have been taught an altered version.  All that history means nothing to the newly minted zealot.  

We in this office are not equipped to follow every twist and turn.  Things are happening too fast.  The pieces are not all in place for this to be the last conflagration on earth before the return of the Savior.  But that could change.  We’re told to watch so we’re not caught unprepared in every conceivable way.  Who knows?  Would-be prophets have predicted the end of the age forever.  Most of them are long dead, and here we still are.  Herbert W. Armstrong thought it would be in 1975, and who dared dispute him?  None of these guys who predict the end of the age think it could happen without them.  Who could have imagined what it would be like in 2023, or that we’d have survived the predictions of the truly educated? It was a long time ago, but some of us remember.

How many wars are going at once?  The whole Middle East is on the verge of a vast conflict.  We were already trying to ascertain what in the world is going on in Ukraine.  We had to send them armaments and money.  Lots of money.  Now the U. S. is vowing to support Israel, in the first decision made by this clown show that seemed sound.  We’ve got aircraft carrier groups in the Mediterranean in case Iran gets any big ideas.  Iran claims it had nothing to do with the sneak attack. Other than supplying all the weaponry and money, they’re completely innocent.  And they better stay that way.

Meanwhile the U. S. has carried out airstrikes in Syria.  Apparently they’ve attacked U. S. bases, and F-16’s have reportedly hit weapons caches.  The talking heads are worried that the action will be linked with Israel’s Gaza response.  U. S. diplomats say this is a completely unrelated affair.  But everybody knows this thing could spread.  And why not?  Up until now we’ve projected weakness.  Nothing encourages bad actors like weakness.  Now we’ve got the likes of Anthony Blinken and Lloyd Austin to navigate what weakness has wrought.  Biden has inspired a lot of confidence, especially in our enemies.

They want us freaked out about global warming, and repeating phrases we’ve heard on TV, but the subject has been changed.  Now it’s about global conflict, and people can just get over their hurt feelings.  It’s serious now.  Everybody better treat it that way.

On Wednesday night, the number of dead in the heinous attacks had been reported as high as 22 and early reports suggested dozens wounded, as Breitbart News reported.

Gov. Mills pledged during a press conference to use all resources to locate the perpetrator of the shootings and bring him to justice.

Maine State Police Col. William Ross provided a timeline on the Wednesday night shootings, noting the first shooting occurred at the Sparetime Recreation center just before 7 p.m.

Roughly ten minutes later, calls came in about a shooting in Schemengees Bar & Grille Restaurant.

The gunman, identified as Anthony Dwayne McRae of Lansing, Michigan, shot himself to death after the rampage on Monday night. McRae had no known affiliation to the university in East Lansing, about 90 miles (145 km) northwest of Detroit.

McRae entered Berkey Hall, an academic building on the school’s northern campus, and began shooting, authorities said. He then fled to another building and opened fire there before police arrived.

Police found the suspect’s body nearly four miles (6.5 km) from the campus at 11:35 p.m., about three hours after the first report of a shooting.

The attack took place Friday evening as worshipers left Shabbat services. A gunman was killed in a shootout with police, Israeli officials said, identifying him as a resident of eastern Jerusalem who was not Israeli.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Hamas and Islamic Jihad praised it as retaliation for the raid in Jenin, in which at least nine Palestinians were killed. Israel said the raid was meant to prevent a planned major attack.

Neve Yaakov is one of the neighborhoods in eastern Jerusalem Israel built after it captured the area in the 1967 Six-Day War. It was constructed to expand the Jewish presence in the city’s eastern portions, although in recent years Palestinian Jerusalemites have rented apartments there. It is near the separation barrier between Jerusalem’s boundaries and the West Bank and near areas under Palestinian Authority control.

Several other people were wounded in the attack, according to the first-responder service Magen David Adom. Among those initially reported as hospitalized were a 70-year-old woman, a 20-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy.
