Germany’s plans for a €10 billion military satellite network, independent of the European IRIS² project, are worrying some EU lawmakers about fragmentation and duplication of costs.

Germany plans 100 satellites in low-orbit orbit for military use only, while IRIS² aims for 290 satellites by 2029 for a unified space communications system.

Analysts say Germany’s technology resembles Elon Musk’s Starshield platform, used in Ukraine.

Field Marshal Munir is expected to discuss stabilization force with Trump in coming weeks, with Pakistani participation likely to trigger domestic backlash among Islamists

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan’s most powerful military chief in decades faces the toughest test of his newly amassed powers as Washington pushes Islamabad to contribute troops to the Gaza stabilization force, a move analysts say could spark domestic backlash.

Field Marshal Asim Munir is expected to fly to Washington to meet US President Donald Trump in the coming weeks for a third meeting in six months that will likely focus on the Gaza force, two sources told Reuters, one of them a key player in the general’s economic diplomacy.

Trump’s 20-point Gaza plan calls for an international force to oversee a transition period for reconstruction and economic recovery in the war-torn Palestinian territory, decimated by over two years of war.

The updated map, compiled by DeepState through a mix of open-source data and testimonies from units on the ground, shows the grey zone touching the highway, which was used regularly by civilian and military traffic as recently as mid-July.

Dobropillia lies 94 kilometers northwest of Russian-occupied Donetsk, and about 22 kilometers north of the embattled city of Pokrovsk.

Authorities say the main reason behind the decline is the country’s dismal birth rate, which at 0.75 babies per woman is the world’s lowest.

South Korea retains compulsory military service mainly because the country is still technically at war with its nuclear-armed neighbour North Korea.

A group of Indian defense officials and industry representatives told Reuters on Tuesday that India quietly banned military drone manufacturers from using Chinese parts several months ago, due to concerns about security vulnerabilities that could compromise the equipment.

India is spending a great deal of money to modernize its military, and the government has decided Chinese parts cannot be trusted because they could include deliberate security vulnerabilities in systems such as “communication functions, cameras, radio transmission, and operating software.”

The decision was evidently made in February when Indian defense officials held a meeting with the growing domestic drone industry and told them components from “countries sharing land borders with India will not be acceptable for security reasons” because they might have “security loopholes.” Bids for government contracts are now required to include sourcing for all components employed in the drones.

The same message was sent to manufacturers at another meeting with military officials in March. In case anyone was wondering if the ban might be directed at some previously obscure electronics supply firm in Nepal or Bangladesh, an Indian defense official confirmed to Reuters that “countries sharing land borders with India” was a euphemism for “China.”

The U.S. military’s chief information officer and former CIA deputy director John Sherman said his office will assume control of all 5G-related activities in the U.S. military and expand the military’s 5G pilot programs — a move critics said could lead to increased surveillance of U.S. citizens.

The U.S. military’s chief information officer (CIO) and former CIA deputy director John Shermansaid his office will assume control of all 5G-related activities in the U.S. military and expand the military’s 5G pilot programs — a move critics said could lead to increased surveillance of U.S. citizens.

The move will shift the Pentagon’s 5G efforts from the office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, Heidi Shyu, to Sherman’s office.

The transition will officially take effect on Oct. 1, but Sherman said his office has “already been working left seat, right seat with research and engineering on this, [in] a very close partnership with Honorable Heidi Shyu and her team.”

Sherman also wants to expand the military’s use of 5G, but he did not say exactly what that expansion may look like.

Revised estimates in the Budget documents show that the armed forces were unable to spend ₹2,369 crore out of last year’s capital outlay of ₹1.52 lakh crore

India on Wednesday set aside ₹5.94 lakh crore for defence spending in this year’s Budget, including a capital outlay of ₹1.62 lakh crore for the military’s modernisation, with the allocation 13% higher than that in last year’s Budget estimates, and about 2% more compared to that in the revised estimates for 2022-23, documents showed.

The Budget includes a revenue expenditure of ₹2.7 lakh crore and a pension outlay of ₹1.38 lakh crore. This year’s defence Budget accounts for 2% of the country’s projected gross domestic product (GDP) for 2023-24. It forms 13% of the total government Budget.

The enhanced allocation comes at a time when India is locked in a border row with China and pursuing a raft of modernisation programmes with a sharp focus on deploying locally produced weapons and systems.

This year’s capital outlay is about 6% higher than that in last year’s Budget estimates and about 8% more compared to that in the revised estimates for 2022-23. The capital allocation will power the purchase of fighter aircraft, helicopters, warships, missiles and several land systems, including tanks and artillery guns.
