Rishi Sunak has been unceremoniously kicked to the curb in England. Keir Starmer has been elected the new Prime Minister. His wing man is none other than Barack Obama, the two having met in college. Apparently Obama has been tutoring him. “Change begins now.” Remind you of anything?

But Nigel Farage will make things interesting. They say he’ll be “noisy.”

Biden’s performance at the debate has a lot of donors and supporters skittish. Apparently he realizes he blew it, and is making every imaginable excuse. Some are still supporting him, but it looks like the mainstream media is throwing him under the bus. Reports say his advisors in the White House are depressed, and the news is trying to explain it away. Those paying attention knew he was in bad shape, but the media is surprised, or claims to be.

Suddenly there’s all kinds of pressure for the pretender to resign. Immediately. You can only imagine what’s going on behind the scenes. They’re probably going to have to forcefully evict Jill, who has grown accustomed to the many perks of the presidency. Apparently there was an impromptu family meeting called, and there are many facets to be considered. Foremost, the pretender has some legal liabilities and Hunter’s troubles are no secret. Maybe there will be pardons all around, and that will be part of the deal that brings Kamala to power. Imagine the logistics! Or will it be somebody else come election time?

The mainstream acted surprised to see how Biden performed in the debate. They’ve been gas- lighting the public so long, they can’t believe everybody knows the truth, in spite of them. We’ve been wise to it for some time, but the anchors are going along like nobody knows his condition. A cold? Sure. An episode or a condition?
They’ve called in all the riot cops they can, but seemingly can’t get a handle on it as it goes on and on. Apparently the population is deeply dissatisfied with the situation and the rest of Macron’s term may not be pleasant.

How long should a war take? The war goes on, or should I say, the attempt to banish Hamas for good goes on. It looks like the “humanitarian aid” has gone into tunnels and rockets. Trump says Iran was broke during his administration and Iran wouldn’t have been able to sponsor the terrorists under those conditions. But now?

The world is ablaze with threats abounding. The next several months are going to be crucial in the grand scheme of things. Right now, there is no confidence in the United States. Especially after everyone saw the debate. It will not do to have an incoherent president of the United States, and the world knows it.

We’ve just finished the layout for the next WATCH magazine. There may be much more trying times ahead, even with competent leadership. With Obama running the show we’ll be lucky to survive.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says the prominent Brexiteer’s case raises free speech questions.

LONDON — He always said the U.K. establishment was out to get him. Now Nigel Farage has the receipts.

Britain’s most prominent Brexiteer has produced a 12,000-word document from the bank Coutts which, according to Farage, reveals the truth behind the forced closure of his account there.

The former Brexit Party leader has been embroiled in a row with the institution — so esteemed it has served successive generations of the royal family — after Coutts canceled his account earlier this month. Farage said at the time that no reason was given — but subsequent media reports, including on the BBC, cited a minimum wealth threshold Farage no longer met.

Now an internal document from Coutts, obtained by Farage through a subject access request he made to the bank and published in full by the Daily Mail newspaper, shows it wanted to drop him as a client long before — and used his controversial public profile as justification.

The European Union and United Kingdom have reached a post-Brexit free trade deal, officials announced Thursday – just days before the U.K. is scheduled to finalize its departure from the bloc at the end of the year.

“So we have finally found an agreement. It was a long and winding road but we have got a good deal to show for it,” E.U. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at a press conference.

The deal should avert a chaotic economic break between the two sides on New Year’s Day, after fears of lines at ports and tariffs between the two sides if no deal was achieved.

GET FOX BUSINESS ON THE GO BY CLICKING HERE

U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson was expected to speak moments later but tweeted “The deal is done” as his E.U. counterpart was speaking.

Boris Johnson@borisjohnson

The deal is done.

The agreement now goes to the 27 E.U. nations seeking unanimous approval, as well as the blessing of the E.U. and British parliaments. The deal had appeared doomed just weeks ago, with issues such as E.U. fishing rights in U.K. waters proving to be a sticking point, and Johnson warning Brits that they should prepare for no deal.

Reuters reported this week that E.U. negotiators were prepared to cut the value of its fish catch in British waters by about 25%, but Britain wanted a 30-35% reduction. Meanwhile, the U.K. wants to limit E.U. access over three years, while the E.U. wants a six-year timeframe.

But after resolving the remaining fair-competition and almost all fisheries issues on Wednesday, negotiators combed through hundreds of pages of legal text that should become the blueprint for a post-Brexit relationship.

The details are likely to be scrutinized and widely debated ahead of its ratification in London and from European nations. It will remain to be seen if key Eurosceptics in Johnson’s Conservative Party will accept it.

But one of the architects of the original Brexit referendum, declared victory ahead of the announcement – even as he expressed possible reservations about the details of the accord.

“On the big stuff, the war is over,” he said.

Despite the breakthrough, key aspects of the future relationship between the 27-nation bloc and its former member remain uncertain. But it leaves the mutually dependent but often fractious U.K.-E.U. relationship on a much more solid footing than a disruptive no-deal split.

ON THE CUSP OF BREXIT TRADE DEAL, EU AND UK HASH OUT FINAL DETAILS

Johnson will now claim to have delivered on the promise that won him a resounding election victory a year ago: “Get Brexit Done.”

Even with a deal, trade between Britain and the E.U. will face customs checks and some other barriers on Jan. 1, when the U.K. leaves the bloc’s single market and customs union. A trade deal would avert the imposition of tariffs and duties that could cost both sides billions in trade and hundreds of thousands of jobs. Britain withdrew from the E.U. on Jan. 31, and an economic transition period expires on Dec. 31.

Over the past few days, Johnson and von der Leyen have been drawn more and more into the talks, speaking by phone in a bid to unblock negotiations that have dragged on for months, hampered by the coronavirus pandemic and by the two sides’ opposing views of what Brexit entails.

Rumors of a pre-Christmas trade deal surfaced in recent days based on progress on the main outstanding issues: fishing, fair competition, and resolution of future disputes.

Businesses on both sides are clamoring for a deal that would save tens of billions in costs.

CLICK HERE TO READ MORE ON FOX BUSINESS

While both sides would suffer economically from a failure to secure a trade deal, most economists think Britain would take a greater hit, because it is smaller and more reliant on trade with the E.U. than the other way around.

I would have preferred our exit from the European Parliament yesterday to have been done with dignity. But Farage and his ghastly crew don’t do dignity, preferring instead to break the EP rules by waving national flags in the chamber to accompany the Great Leader’s final speech.

Farage had previously been warned (in an earlier session) against such demonstrations and the repeat, in this case, predictably drew a response from Mairead McGuinness, the vice-president in the chair. She switched off Farage’s microphone, leaving him to mouth soundlessly to the chamber.

Rebuking Farage, she told him to “Sit down, put your flags away”, adding: “you’re leaving – and take them with you”. This did not stop his MEPs raising a cheer for their leader – another tasteless if somewhat raucous display.

When it came to the vote, 621 MEPs approved the motion to consent to the Withdrawal Agreement, 49 opposed and a mere 13 abstained. With 751 MEPs elected for this round, that means that 68 did not vote, either because of absence or for some other reason.

That provoked an outbreak of singing from the chamber, with a rather fractured rendition of Auld Lang Syne, some MPs waving EU-UK “half-and-half football scarves”, with prominent union flags, the like of which had recently invoked McGuinness’s ire. All that was left was a few public displays of emotional gushing by reluctant departees and it was done.

The General Affairs Council is now scheduled to declare that the Article 50 proceedings are concluded, as required by the Treaty. This will be conducted in writing today, presumably by the permanent representatives acting as plenipotentiaries.

Then, and only then, will all the formalities be complete, clearing the way for the UK to leave the Union at midnight, Central European Time, on Friday, ending our membership of 47 years and one month, respectively of the European Economic Communities, the European Community and the European Union.

Should there ever be a United States of Europe, we are unlikely to be part of it. Even though some MEPs have pledged to “leave a light on” for our return, Guy Verhofstadt has made it clear his preference for a UK shorn of “opt-ins, opt-outs and [budget] rebates. These are conditions which, if applied, would present an insuperable barrier to a UK determined to rejoin.

For the moment, however, it is clear that any thought of returning to Brussels with our tails between our legs (or otherwise), is firmly off the UK political agenda, with the Labour leadership campaigners all refusing to include that commitment in their personal manifestos. It may be that a new Lib-Dem leader is prepared to burn a candle in the window, although who cares? It will do nothing more than attracting moths for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, Johnson has signaled to the fanboy gazette that he will be telling the EU that he is prepared to accept post-Brexit border checks rather than allowing Britain to be a rule-taker.

Johnson, of course, is not the one who personally will have to bear the delays, disruption, costs, and loss of business concomitant is accepting border checks with the EU, but he nevertheless prepared to concede this in what is being slated as a “major speech” setting out his aims for a trade deal next week.

The man, we are told, will say that sovereignty is more important than frictionless trade. Whitehall sources have told the Telegraph that, while Johnson wants to avoid tariffs and quotas on cross-Channel trade (to say nothing of trade across the Irish Sea), he will never “cave in” to demands for alignment on regulations, despite knowing “the consequences that flow from that”.

Bolstering this “hard-line” stance is Sir Robbie Gibb, Theresa May’s Downing Street chief of staff, who asserts that the EU has failed to grasp that the UK’s political landscape has “utterly changed” as a result of Johnson’s majority at the general election.

The new year, he says, is producing the same old briefings from Brussels: that the EU will set the sequence for the coming talks; that we will have to make concessions over our fishing rights for access to EU financial markets; and that EU judges should have the final say over any trade disputes with Britain.

That this man ever had anything to do with advising Mrs. May, however, illustrates the lack of knowledge and understanding that pervades even the highest level of the state.

Gibb asserts that the current Irish protocol – as a “stand-alone provision” – has the effect of keeping Northern Ireland in both the EU and UK customs areas and, he says, with these arrangements, Britain is free to diverge from EU rules when it wants. This is the biggest change that the EU does not seem to grasp.

This government, he goes on to say, wants a good trading agreement with the EU but not at the expense of UK sovereignty. With that, he avers, the EU can also choose to keep friction to a minimum for the benefit of its business as well as ours.

And then, in what amounts to the “money quote”, he actually suggests that the EU “can stop playing hardball and accept mutual recognition of our standards as they do for many other countries in certain sectors, such as Canada, Japan, and the US”.

Even after all this time, we have people such as this who fail to understand the difference between “equivalence” and “mutual recognition of standards”, the latter applying exclusively to members of the Single Market – a concession given to no third countries, including Canada, Japan, and the EU.

The trouble with such people is that they never step outside their own little bubbles. Had Gibb done so, he might have recorded the complaints of Canadian meat producers, which I reported in March 2017.

Here we got an understanding of how “equivalence” actually works in practice. Despite the implementation of CETA, we had Ron Davidson, head of international trade for the Canadian Meat Council, saying, “We do not have what we would call commercially viable access to the European market”.

More than two years later, we have an article in CBC News reporting (predictably) that the Canada-EU beef trade deal was “not working as well as hoped”.

European health standards, it said, were “too costly and complicated for Albertan beef exporters”, stating that: “a difference in food health standards between the European Union and Canada is being blamed for beef exports falling short of expectations, despite a promising modification to a trade agreement between Canada and Europe”.

Remarkably, in 2018, Canada sent just 3.1 percent of the 50,000 tonnes of meat authorized for export each year, and in 2017 the total was only 2.3 percent. That means CETA earned only $12.7 million for Canadian producers in 2018, against a theoretical potential of $600 million in any one year.

This is by no means an isolated report, with the Financial Post later publishing a headline that complained: “Beef and pork for cheese deal sours as strict EU health rules hinder Canadian exports under CETA”.

Here, we see that despite the new opportunities afforded by the deal, pork and beef exports to Europe have hardly budged, despite being “one of the most important elements for Canada in this negotiation”.

Canadian exporters filled none of their frozen beef quota in 2018, and just 1.5 percent of their pork allowance. By contrast, European cheese exporters have taken almost full advantage of CETA, filling 99.2 percent of Canada’s quota for fine quality cheese in 2018 and 71.1 percent of the quota for industrial cheese.

Then, in the last few days, we had France 24 asking: “Is Canada on losing end of CETA free trade agreement with EU?”

The answer, as one might expect, is yes. But that is the reality Johnson must be prepared to accept when he sets the pace for the coming negotiations. And when his stance is endorsed by the ignorance of such people as Gibb, with Farage apparently telling us that everything will come right as German car manufacturers will insist on a good deal, we haven’t much to look forward to.

They can all wave their little flags, and I suppose we’ll be seeing a lot of that over the next few days. But then the reckoning will start.

Forget about holding a second referendum. It just happened. Jeremy Corbyn did his cynical best to make the election about the NHS, with fake-news claims about Boris flogging it lock, stock and barrel to Donald Trump.

Admittedly, Johnson did himself few favours with his bumbling performance when put on the spot by a TV reporter over photos of a young boy sleeping on a hospital floor.

But it wasn’t the NHS that made millions brave driving rain to mark an ‘X’ with a stubby pencil.

For most Tories – and many former Labour voters – it was, in the words of the only three words the campaign will be remembered for, to ‘get Brexit done’.

<img decoding="async" src="https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2019/12/12/22/22173806-7787071-image-a-7_1576188364999.jpg" alt="Simon Walters writes that the election was all about Brexit. Simon Walters writes that the election was all about Brexit. Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson speaking at Copper Box Arena in London in a last campaign effort the day before the General Election

And for Home Counties Tory Remainers egged on by Sir John Major, hectoring Jo Swinson’s Lib Dem Europhiles and Labour’s pro-Brussels London luvvies, it was to get Brexit undone.

The truth is that almost exactly three and a half years after the referendum the country is still deeply divided over whether the UK should leave the EU. Every party was tied in knots trying to grapple with Brexit fissures during the campaign.

Corbyn panicked when he realized his feeble fence-sitting was driving working-class Leavers in Labour’s so-called Red Wall of seats in the North into Boris’s arms.

A token pro-Leave Corbynista was sent North to try to curb the insurrection – and was greeted with a loud raspberry from one end of Hadrian’s Wall to the other.

Shadow Brexit Secretary Sir Keir Starmer – a silken-tongued southern MP and arch-Remainer – was so invisible in the North he might as well have spent the campaign on Mars. But if you were a Labour supporter in pro-Remain Putney, south-west London, you could have been forgiven for thinking Starmer was Labour leader, not Corbyn.

Brexit party leader Nigel Farage pictured on the campaign trail in Hartlepool, the day before the general election

Starmer’s face, not Corbyn’s, was plastered all over one of the Putney Labour candidate’s leaflets in a straightforward attempt to milk the Remain vote and ‘Stop Brexit’.

Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson did the seemingly impossible when she was rejected by fellow Remainers who said her pledge to summarily revoke the Article 50 departure process from the EU made a mockery of the word ‘democrat’ in her party’s name.

She consoled herself by trying to wrestle the Foreign Secretary – karate black-belt Dominic Raab – out of his seat in Esher in the heavily Remain Surrey commuter belt.

Nigel Farage disappeared in a cloud of his own cigarette smoke when his Brexit Party supporters concluded he had become the biggest threat to his own declared objective.

Johnson got every Tory candidate to sign his Brexit pledge, but this did not prevent blood-letting between the Conservatives’ warring factions.

In Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, former Conservative attorney general Dominic Grieve, standing as an independent after being thrown out of the party for his one-man crusade to block Brexit, called Johnson a ‘pathological liar’.

Parliament is widely held to have failed to do its duty over Brexit, with endless dither, delay, bickering and back-biting that reduced a once great nation to a laughing stock.

If only Brexit cheerleader Boris had moved into No 10 after the referendum instead of Remainer Theresa May, we would have ‘got Brexit done’ three years ago and moved on, goes the argument.

I am not so sure.

Current Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn pictured outside a polling station in his North Islington constituency in London

Before the referendum campaign began, veteran Brexiteer John Redwood told me it would be ‘the English Civil War without muskets’. That war lasted nine years, cost around 100,000 lives and split families for generations. But it but sowed the seeds for the nation’s future tolerance, prosperity and success.

The long-term consequences of Brexit may not be so profound. Most would settle for a decent trade deal with the EU, continued pet passports and controlled immigration while ensuring we have enough people to staff the NHS, care homes and the local Costa Coffee.

There has been vicious social-media abuse and threats to MPs on all sides. Tory Iain Duncan Smith received a dismembered rat through his letterbox just days ago.

But staying in the EU has not prevented neo-Nazi protests in Merkel’s Germany and Gilets Jaunes riots in Macron’s France.

The Parliamentary deadlock in Westminster has been petty, agonizing and frustrating – but in my view, the extra three and a half years spent thrashing out a hugely complex issue have not all been wasted.

Most people who turned out yesterday had a greater understanding of Brexit than they did in June 2016, when few had heard of the Customs Union, let alone knew what it was – including some MPs I could mention.

If you wanted to vote for or against Brexit yesterday, there were guides on how to vote tactically in every seat.

Before the election was called, the depressing prospect (to me, anyway) of the UK spending much of 2020 fighting a long, bitter second referendum seemed increasingly likely.

With luck, it took place yesterday. And not a musket was fired.

Greetings from Tyler,

We got through the world’s Halloween observance without incident. Maybe they’ll start removing the spider webs and flashing inflatables from the neighborhood yards, and the skeletons from the entries of every dollar store. Not that we’re frightened or upset. We’ve got enough concerns in real life to worry about all the ghastly rubber and plastic that’s not fit for the trash bin. My neighborhood saw a few adults shepherding little children up and down the streets with their bags of candy. Wouldn’t you love to hear what they’re telling their impressionable youngsters in explanation?

You’ve undoubtedly seen footage from the several wildfires across the state of California. In its infinite wisdom, the power company PG&E has cut power to hundreds of thousands out of concern that the high winds will cause tree branches to come into contact with live wires and ignite fires. Many hands went up when the question was asked at the recent Feast about how many had had their power shut off. When the blackout goes for days, there goes all the food in the refrigerator and the freezer. It was particularly idiotic when the Indian guru appeared in his blue headgear to proclaim that global warming was generating fire danger. Anybody who lived in Southern California, say, in the sixties or seventies knows that these winds, known as the Santa Ana winds, blow every year at this time and always present the danger of raging wildfires. Back then, they told us that a new ice age was coming. They think they can feed us any line of nonsense with grave sincerity, and we’re just expected to nod and agree.

California’s leadership is the author of many of the horrible problems driving thousands out of the former paradise. You don’t need us to tell you of the rampant homeless situation that’s been allowed to spread out of control. Not only do they have bums living in filth all up and down the streets, they’ve created a crime wave that’s killing businesses. It seems that theft and shoplifting is way down the list of law enforcement priorities, so they’ve reduced the penalty for any theft under the amount of $950 to a misdemeanor. So now, the “homeless” can steal whatever they want, run out the door and sell it for half the price, then go back and steal some more to support their homeless habits. Reports say it’s become brazen and takes place often in broad daylight. Nothing will be done about petty theft, so it’s become a way of life for the down and out all across the state, spreading from San Francisco.

And as goes California, we’ve learned the hard way, so goes the nation. These types of laws are already in effect in Dallas, TX, where an employee is not even allowed to make contact with a thief carrying stolen goods from a store, under penalty of being fired. So that means a petty thief can shoplift at will, as long as he doesn’t go over the amount deemed a felony. It’s another milestone on the road to communist Utopia.

Since the inception of the United States, one philosophy has reigned and been stated in various ways by the founders and past presidents. That is that the USA will not be defeated by a foreign enemy. The real danger is internal. If the majority ever determines to elect representatives that will hand them every earthly need at government expense, look out.

Why is socialism so popular, particularly among the nation’s youth? One of the largest, most hobbling debts on the nation and on the younger set is student debt. It prevents young adults from getting married, buying houses and realizing the lifestyle to which they feel entitled. When someone comes along and says, “We’re going to forgive your student loans,” it sounds like a panacea. That appears to be the price of patriotism for big crowds cheering socialism.

Open borders, free health care for all! Free college, and government programs to cover all your needs. That sounds like a terrific deal to adult kids living with their folks because they’re too hobbled with debt to make a go of it. We’ve got people promising them that every need will be provided at somebody else’s expense, and they’re falling for it. All this free stuff may bankrupt the most prosperous nation on earth. And somebody should tell them. Socialism destroys everything it touches. For the sakes of our kids and grandkids, we hope and pray they don’t have to learn by experience.

Meanwhile, it’s impeachment talk around the clock. We’ve learned that the “whistleblower” has been part and parcel with the push to get rid of President Trump all along. It’s rather disconcerting when the idiots reporting the news know so much less than we do. But that’s where we are. May God see that they suffer the embarrassment they deserve, and the masses see through the onslaught of deception.

Mr. Trump dropped the diplomatic hand grenade in an interview with his friend Nigel Farage on LBC last night as he also urged the Brexit Party and the Tories to form an ‘unstoppable’ general election pact.

The Prime Minister has insisted that his Brexit deal would open the door to a lucrative and wide-ranging free trade deal with the Trump administration when Britain leaves the EU.

But last night Mr. Trump said it would be difficult to trade with the UK under Mr. Johnson’s Brexit deal, telling Mr. Farage: ‘To be honest with you… this deal… under certain aspects of the deal… you can’t do it, you can’t do it, you can’t trade.

‘We can’t make a trade deal with the UK because I think we can do many times the numbers that we’re doing right now and certainly much bigger numbers than you are doing under the European Union.’

Afterward, a Number 10 spokesman said: ‘Under this new deal the whole of the UK will leave the EU Customs Union, which means we can strike our own free trade deals around the world from which every part of the UK will benefit.’

But the president’s intervention will be a boost to Jeremy Corbyn, although Trump said of the Labour leader: ‘Corbyn would be so bad for your country. He’d be so bad, he’d take you in such a bad way. He’d take you into such bad places.’

Mr. Trump last night piled pressure on Nigel Farage to forge a pact with Boris Johnson and save Britain from Jeremy Corbyn.

In an extraordinary intervention, the US President said the PM and Brexit Party leader would be an ‘unstoppable force’ if they teamed up for the General Election.

Mr. Trump said of the Labour leader: ‘Corbyn would be so bad for your country. He’d take you into such bad places.’

And the President rubbished Mr. Corbyn’s claim that the NHS was ‘on the table’ in talks about a US trade deal, saying: ‘We wouldn’t even be involved in that… it’s not for us to have anything to do with your healthcare system. No, we’re just talking about trade.’

It came as Mr. Farage prepared to reveal this morning whether he will bow to calls to soft-pedal against the Conservatives in next month’s election to help ensure a parliamentary majority for Brexit.

Senior Brexit Party figures have urged Mr. Farage to stand down hundreds of candidates to give Mr. Johnson a clear run and ensure that Brexit is finally delivered.

One source said ‘dozens and dozens’ of Tory MPs had urged the party to stand aside or risk seeing Brexit thwarted again. But Mr. Farage last night indicated he will not back down unless the PM abandons his Brexit deal and agrees to go for a ‘clean break’ with the EU.

Mr. Trump’s diplomatic bombshell came as:

Mr. Johnson, hitting the campaign trail for the first time, pledged to deliver Brexit by January ‘at the absolute latest’;

A new poll gave the Tories a 17-point lead over Labour;

Mr. Trump defended his controversial attempt to broker a meeting between the family of British teenager Harry Dunn and the US diplomat’s wife accused of killing him in a road accident, saying he had hoped they could ‘grieve together’;

The US President appeared to take a swipe at the Duchess of Sussex’s criticism of her media treatment, saying: ‘She’s taking it very personally’;

Mr. Trump’s intervention came in an interview on Mr. Farage’s show on LBC Radio.

The US President heaped praise on Mr. Johnson, describing him as a ‘terrific guy’ who would deliver Brexit.

Mr. Trump repeatedly appealed to Mr. Farage to join forces with the Conservatives at the election, telling him: ‘I’d like to see you and Boris get together cause you would really have some numbers – you did fantastically in the last election, and he respects you a lot. I just wish you two guys could get together – I think it would be a great thing.’

But the Brexit Party leader was circumspect about the chances of an electoral pact.

Mr. Farage said the PM had brought ‘a tremendous amount of energy to the job’.

But he remained critical of Mr. Johnson’s Brexit deal – and suggested he would only back down if the PM switched to a No Deal strategy. He told Mr. Trump: ‘If he drops this dreadful deal, fights the General Election on the basis that we just want to have trade with Europe but no political influence, do you know what? I would be right behind him.’

Mr. Corbyn has repeatedly claimed that US corporations could be given access to the NHS as part of a new post-Brexit trade deal. The claim looks set to be a central part of Labour’s election campaign, despite direct denials from Mr. Johnson, Trade Secretary Liz Truss, and Health Secretary Matt Hancock.

Mr. Trump last night said it was untrue – and suggested Mr. Corbyn had made it up.

He said: ‘I mean, it’s so ridiculous I think Corbyn put that out there.’

Mr. Corbyn hit back, accusing Mr. Trump of ‘trying to interfere in Britain’s election to get his friend Boris Johnson elected’. He said the President had put the NHS ‘on the table’ in trade talks, adding: ‘He knows if Labour wins, US corporations won’t get their hands on it. Our NHS is not for sale.’

Mr. Trump’s intervention was not entirely helpful to the Prime Minister.

The President said he was ‘disappointed’ that Mr. Johnson – who marks 100 days in office today – had not managed to deliver Brexit, and he warned that a comprehensive free trade agreement could be impossible to negotiate under the terms of the PM’s Brexit deal.

The Tories and the Labour Party were in similar positions in the polls at the start of the 2017 general election campaign but ultimately ended up with 42 percent and 40 percent of the total vote share on polling day.

Boris Johnson faces a showdown in Parliament after he vowed to push for a snap general election if rebel MPs succeed in a bid to seize control of parliamentary proceedings.

Parliament returns on Tuesday after recess, with MPs looking to take control of Commons business to allow them to discuss proposed legislation to block a no-deal Brexit.

Addressing the nation outside Number 10, the Prime Minister insisted “I don’t want an election, you don’t want an election” but moments later a senior Government source said any bid to “wreck” the UK’s negotiating position would prompt motion for an early election.

The source said Mr. Johnson would request a general election on October 14 if the move was successful.

A motion for the snap poll would be tabled by the Government which would require the support of two-thirds of MPs under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act (FTPA).

Ex-justice secretary David Gauke, who is among the senior Tories who have put their name to the cross-party legislation, said if MPs did not act then Britain would leave without a deal on October 31.

But the source said the Government’s motion on an early general election would be published before MPs vote on Tuesday so MPs would know the consequences of voting against the Government.

The source said: “I think if you were to have any chance of securing a deal, which the PM has been very clear that he wants the deal, you would want to have that election on October 14 so that you can go to European Council and secure a deal.”

The source said the vote would be treated as though it is a vote of no confidence, and that any Conservative MP voting against the Government could have the whip withdrawn.

But a source close to the group of rebel Conservative MPs opposed to a no-deal Brexit said: “It’s a bit rich for the Prime Minister to point the finger at colleagues who plan to defy the party whip – colleagues who voted for a deal three times – while he voted with Jeremy Corbyn to inflict the two biggest parliamentary defeats on a government in British history.

“The Prime Minister seems to be doing everything he can to bring about an election while claiming it’s the last thing he wants.”

If MPs agree on Tuesday to allow the cross-party group to seize control of Commons business, the legislation will be considered the following day.

Under the terms of the European Union (Withdrawal) (no 6) Bill, the Government must seek a delay to the UK’s withdrawal from the EU until January 31 if there is no agreement with Brussels in place by October 19 and Parliament has not approved a no-deal Brexit.

Mr. Gauke said he believed Mr. Johnson was threatening a snap poll because he expected to lose the vote in the Commons.

He said MPs had devised a “watertight” mechanism to help avoid the UK crashing out of the EU, but he thought the parliamentary arithmetic was “tight”.

Speaking on the BBC’s Newsnight programme, he said: “I think he is moving in that direction and I think to some extent that seems to be the plan because I think he probably expects to lose tomorrow.

“I don’t know whether he will but I think that’s what he’s expecting and his response will be to go to the country.

“The problem is not, if you like, whether the mechanism works, it’s whether we’ve got the numbers tomorrow, and I think it will be tight.

“But I have to say if we don’t act we know pretty well for certain that we will be leaving without a deal on October 31.

“The test is over the course of the next two days and we may or may not win the votes and that is the test.”

Asked if Tory MPs would risk deselection over their position on Brexit, he said: “All of us believe that it is vitally important that Parliament has a say and that we cannot leave the European Union on October 31 without a deal unless Parliament consents to it.”

Jeremy Corbyn said Labour will “take the fight to the Tories” in a general election, insisting the party is ready.

Speaking at a rally in Salford, Mr. Corbyn said: “I am proud to lead our party, I’m proud to take the fight to the Tories and I will be delighted when the election comes. I’m ready for it, you’re ready for it, we’re ready for it, we’ll take the message out there and above all, we will win for the people of this country.”

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage predicted Boris Johnson will lose the Commons vote on Tuesday and the country will face a general election in October.

Speaking at a rally in Colchester, Mr. Farage said: “I can’t predict how that vote will go tomorrow but I suspect the Prime Minister will lose and I suspect we’ll be facing a general election probably to take place on October 14.”
