In a statement sent to Insider, Buckingham Palace said the Queen “died peacefully at Balmoral” on Thursday afternoon.

“The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,” the statement added.

On Thursday, Buckingham Palace said that the monarch’s doctors were concerned for her health and recommended she remain under medical supervision.

Royals including Prince William, Prince Charles, and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall traveled to Balmoral Castle, the family’s estate in Scotland, to be by the Queen’s side, British media reported.

Her death brings to a close a monumental reign in British history and ushers in a new, uncertain one.

Photographs of The Queen meeting with the King and Queen of Jordan have raised concerns about the monarch’s wellbeing after they showed her hand appearing bruised and purple.

The pictures of Queen Elizabeth II meeting King Abdullah II and Queen Rania, were released by palace officials yesterday.

The images sparked concerns among royal fans who noticed that the Queen’s hand looked particularly bruised.

It drew questions about her health, with some suggesting it looks like a painful bruise, the Mirror reports .

The 92-year-old was stood in the centre of the smiling line up in a white outfit, but it was the colour of her hand that drew people’s attention.

The same colouring can be seen in other photographs from the event.

Eagle eyed social media users raised their concerns when the line up photo was posted on the Royal Family’s official Twitter profile.

A number of Twitter users raised the question in the comments section, with many wishing the Queen a speedy recovery.

One commented: “Did the Queen have a fall? What is wrong with her hands? I am concerned for her.”

Another Twitter user, Tracy Edgar, said: “I love keeping up with Queen Elizabeth II but I’m concerned. Why does she have such a terrible bruise on her left hand. Did I miss something? But as always, she looks stunning!”

Regardless of the cause of the apparent discolouration, the Queen appeared well enough to carry out her royal duties.

She held a private audience with the Middle Eastern royals, and was joined by her daughter Princess Anne.

Last June it was reported the Queen had to pull out of a service at St Paul’s Cathedral as she was ‘under the weather ‘ though she was back to work a few days later.

And the previous month Her Majesty underwent eye surgery to remove a cataract.
