Allen was allegedly armed with a shotgun, handgun, and knives when he charged a security checkpoint outside the packed black-tie gala which was being held in the ballroom of the venue.

Moreno entered Osteen’s Lakewood Church just before 2 p.m. with a boy, believed to be about 4 or 5 years old, and opened fire into the church.

Two off-duty officers working security at the church — a Houston cop and an agent with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission — returned fire and fatally shot Moreno, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said Sunday.

The boy was also shot and has been hospitalized in critical condition.

The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, but a 69-year-old suspect from France was taken into custody, according to the prosecutor. The suspect was also wounded.

One man and two women were killed, according to authorities. All three who suffered injuries are men.

An investigation has been opened into murder and aggravated violence charges.

Beccuau confirmed the attacker was already known to the police, and had recently been released from prison. He was also banned from possessing a weapon, the prosecutor said.
