House Democrats introduced an impeachment resolution against President Trump on Monday for incitement of an “insurrection,” just days after the Capitol riot, saying he warrants impeachment, trial, and “removal from office.”

Democratic Reps. Ted Lieu, David Cicilline, Jamie Raskin, and Jerrold Nadler introduced the article of impeachment, charging the president with violating his oath of office.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Monday that the House “will move forward with bringing impeachment legislation to the Floor.”

“The President’s threat to America is urgent, and so too will be our action,” Pelosi said.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, later, said the House would meet at 9 a.m. on Wednesday to consider the article of impeachment.

House Republicans blocked quick consideration of a bill calling on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office amid fallout from last week’s Capitol riot.

Democrats asked for consideration of a bill calling on Pence to mobilize the 25th Amendment, but Rep. Alex Mooney, R-W.V., objected Monday.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said she would bring the bill to the floor if the unanimous consent request was blocked.

“The President represents an imminent threat to our Constitution, our Country, and the American people, and he must be removed from office immediately,” Pelosi said in a statement Monday, noting that House Republicans rejected the legislation, and claimed they were “enabling the President’s unhinged, unstable and deranged acts of sedition to continue.”

“Their complicity endangers America, erodes our Democracy, and it must end,” she said.

Pelosi announced that the House would take up the legislation, and said House Democrats are “further calling on the Vice President to respond within 24 hours after passage.”

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer on Monday announced on a call with the House Democratic Caucus that lawmakers should plan to return to Washington for Tuesday to consider the resolution, introduced by Rep. Jamie Raskin, regarding the 25th Amendment. Hoyer said votes will be at 7:30 p.m. at the earliest Tuesday.

The calls for Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment come from top Democrats in both chambers of Congress.

BIDEN AVOIDS FIRM POSITION ON IMPEACHMENT

Last week, Schumer and other Democrats urged Pence to “immediately” invoke the 25th Amendment, calling it the “quickest and most effective way” to remove Trump from office.

Schumer, though, warned that if Pence and the Cabinet did not take that path, Congress could “reconvene to impeach the president.”

The 25th Amendment includes a section allowing the vice president and a majority of Cabinet members to declare a president “unable” to perform the job.

House Republicans and Democrats Thursday blocked each others’ “unanimous consent” requests after President Trump aired grievances Tuesday night to the massive coronavirus stimulus and government funding package lawmakers sent to his desk.

Democrats’ request aimed at sending $2,000 relief checks to Americans. Republicans’ request on revisiting foreign aid, the other element of Trump’s twofold objections to the stimulus and spending legislation.

In order to put forward a unanimous consent request during a pro forma session, as the House was in Thursday, the speaker and the leaders of both the minority and majority must agree.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., who said Democrats’ proposal was “consistent” with Trump’s request, was present to represent Democrats while Rep. Rob Wittman, R-Va., represented Republicans. Each side blocked the others’ attempts to bring unanimous consent requests.

The brief and unfruitful exchange of political barbs came as it’s still unclear whether Trump will veto the original piece of legislation. Even as he attacked it Tuesday he did not explicitly say he’d veto it.

Trump on Tuesday night released a scathing video in which he called panned $600 stimulus checks for Americans as too small, saying the number should instead be $2,000.

He also demanded that “wasteful and unnecessary” spending – Trump specifically listed foreign aid to several countries, along with a few other line-items – be cut from the year-end spending package which lawmakers married to the coronavirus aid so it could all be passed in one vote.

“A few months ago, Congress started negotiations on a new package to get urgently needed help to the American people. It’s taken forever,” Trump said. “However, the bill they are now planning to send back to my desk is much different than anticipated. It really is a disgrace.”

Some lawmakers, especially in the House Freedom Caucus, voiced process objections to the way the monstrous, 5,000-page-plus legislation was moved through Congress in one fell swoop, saying it should have been split into several votes. Trump, however, appeared to confuse the reason for why the spending and the stimulus came to his desk at the same time.

But that nuance mattered little to Democrats. They immediately seized on Trump’s comments to taunt Republicans and call for them to get on board with the $2,000 checks, which many in the GOP opposed throughout the months-long coronavirus negotiations process from which the president was largely absent.

President Trump said Friday that the US would begin dumping illegal immigrants in sanctuary cities across the US — adding that the move would make the “Radical Left … very happy!”

“We are giving strong consideration to having people after a 20-day period, because again you are not allowed legally to hold them for more than that, we’ll move them into sanctuary cities,” the president said at the White House after an unrelated tech event.

The 20-day limit, which the administration had wanted extended, was part of the so-called Flores agreement, which forces the feds to release non-criminal, non-citizens from custody after 20 days.

Trump had earlier tweeted that he was considering making a political point — a day after the White House had firmly denied it.

“Due to the fact that Democrats are unwilling to change our very dangerous immigration laws, we are indeed, as reported, giving strong considerations to placing Illegal Immigrants in Sanctuary Cities only,” he tweeted.

“The Radical Left always seems to have an Open Borders, Open Arms policy – so this should make them very happy!”

On Thursday, a White House official and a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security said the proposal was no longer on the table.

“This was just a suggestion that was floated and rejected, which ended any further discussion,” the White House said.

But Trump confirmed reports this week that he wanted to transport thousands of asylum seekers to sanctuary cities, to ease the crush at the border and deal Democrats a political blow.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — whose district in San Francisco was among those the White House wanted to target — slammed the plan, accusing Team Trump of using children as pawns in their effort to demonize immigrants.

Trump’s revival of the plan of drew was quickly condemned on Friday by Pelosi and other Democrats.

The No. 2 House Democrat, Steny Hoyer of Maryland, criticized the idea of using ICE, the military or any federal agency “to penalize” sanctuary cities “for political reasons.”

“That’s not the act of a democratic government,” he said.

Democrats in the Senate were just as harsh.

“The president should stop the tweeting and start leading on this issue and others,” said Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer’s top spokesman, Angelo Roefaro.

Other New York pols joined the chorus.

“President Trump has yet again proven that the only constant in his immigration policy is cruelty,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “He uses people like pawns. New York City will always be the ultimate city of immigrants – the President’s empty threats won’t change that.”

There are roughly 200 states, counties and cities that have declared themselves as sanctuaries — including New York, Newark, San Francisco, Boston and Philadelphia.

In his statement, Mekdad accused Israel of using violence and harming the regional stability, as well as expressed his outrage at the intention of the United States to pass a law recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

Last week, Republican Senators Ted Cruz and Tom Cotton, together with Democratic Party Representative Mike Gallagher, sent such a bill to the Senate. The authors of the bill argue that it is time to recognize political realities and abandon the expectations of a peace agreement between Israel and Syria, which could lead to the withdrawal of Israel from the Golan Heights.

The bill received the preliminary support of the leader of the majority in the House of Representatives of the US Congress, Democrat Congressman Steny Hoyer.

The statement of the deputy head of the Syrian Foreign Ministry, which was addressed to the head of the UNTSO, contains a direct threat to Israel.

” We are also not scared away by its [Israel’s] supporters who are helping to perpetuate the occupation of the Golan,” the World Israel News quoted Mekdan as saying.
