As Iran strikes Gulf energy sites, Trump says Israel won’t hit its gas field again — but US will if attacks go on

Day after IDF hit its South Pars field, Iran strikes Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, others, warns of ‘uncontrollable repercussions’ of further such attacks; Riyadh says it has right to military action

US President Donald Trump said early Thursday that he would not allow another Israeli attack on Iran’s South Pars natural gas field, after the IDF struck the key energy site the previous day.

Trump’s statement came after Iran attacked targets across the Gulf, including a gas hub in Qatar and oil and gas facilities in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, in response to the strike. The attacks were Iran’s latest targeting of the region amid the war with Israel and the US that began on February 28.

Trump says U.S., Iran to meet next week

June 25 (UPI) — U.S. and Iranian officials will meet next week to discuss current events but won’t necessarily negotiate any agreements, President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday.

The president didn’t say when or where the talks would occur, who would participate or their purpose as he was leaving the NATO summit in The Hague.

“We may sign an agreement,” he told media. “I don’t think it’s that necessary.”

Trump said Iran won’t continue trying to create a nuclear arsenal after the U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities early Sunday morning local time.

Pay rises above inflation would be a terrible mistake, says Hunt

The chancellor has said it would be a “terrible mistake” to give pay rises above the rate of inflation, even though strikes are hitting the economy.

Jeremy Hunt said the impact of the junior doctors’ strike on NHS patients was “regrettable”.

But wage increases that fuelled inflation would have a “more damaging” impact on the UK economy, he said.

Junior doctors are calling for a 35% pay rise, to make up for 15 years of below-inflation wage rises.

There has been no breakthrough in the latest public sector strike. The government has said that junior doctors’ pay demands are “unreasonable” and that talks can only happen if the BMA union moves “significantly” away from their current position.
