ERBIL – Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s offer for assisting the Syrian Kurds has been accepted, Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely has revealed.

The Israeli official noted that they “are assisting them through a number of channels,” and that advocating for them in discussions with the US, as the Syrian Kurds have been affected by the Turkish incursion into the neighboring country in October.

Turkey began an offensive against the Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria on October 9, while the US started to withdraw its forces from the region and let the NATO ally move into the area.

“Israel has received many requests for assistance, mainly in the diplomatic and humanitarian realm,” she said, according to Reuters. “We identify with the deep distress of the Kurds, and we are assisting them through a range of channels.”

She, however, did not clarify how the Jewish state would help the Kurdish nation in Syria, but pointed out that in their “dialogue with the Americans…, we state our truth regarding the Kurds…and we are proud of our taking a stand alongside the Kurdish people,” as cited by Harretz.

Concern over potential provocations by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) has caused Israel to reverse course on their visit.

Israel has decided to bar two Muslim pro-BDS members of Congress from entering Israel over fears of provocation that they would cause and their unwillingness to coordinate with Israeli authorities, according to multiple reports.

Officials had reportedly been examining the official wording of the decision with legal authorities. Interior Minister Aryeh Deri announced the decision late Thursday afternoon.

According to a press statement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Israel Katz and Minister of Strategic Affairs Gilad Erdan explained that “the State of Israel respects the U.S. Congress, as part of the close alliance, but it is inconceivable that anyone who wishes to harm the State of Israel will be allowed” to visit.

“Israel has decided. We won’t enable the members of Congress to enter the country,” Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely told Kan News. “We won’t allow those who deny our right to exist in this world to enter Israel. In principle, this is a very justified decision.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) were expected to arrive in Israel at the end of the week. Reportedly, they have been coordinating their visit with Palestinian figures.

Israeli law bars entry into the country of those who support a boycott of the Jewish State. However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared inclined to allow Omar and Tlaib to visit following pressure from leading figures in the U.S. Democratic Party.

The decision to bar reflects Israel’s concern over potential incitement on the part of the two congresswomen while they are in Israel or the Palestinian-administered territories.

Omar and Tlaib have made statements that included anti-Semitic tropes, have supported anti-Israel groups, and have questioned Israel’s right to its land.

In July, Omar introduced a House resolution in support of BDS, which Tlaib co-sponsored. Tlaib compared the BDS movement to boycotts against Nazi Germany.

Omar has insinuated that the AIPAC pro-Israel lobby group in Washington pays off members of Congress to support Israel.

She and Tlaib have close ties with CAIR, the Council of American-Islamic Relations, which is believed to be linked with Hamas.

Israel was thrilled at the weekend over news that Guatemala had decided to follow in America’s footsteps by recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish state and beginning the process of moving its embassy here.

After profusely thanking Guatemala for taking such a courageous stand, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that the Central America nation wouldn’t be the last to do so.

“I told you recently there would be other countries that will recognize Jerusalem and move their embassies,” Netanyahu said. “I repeat: There will be more, this is just the beginning.”

Shortly after, Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely told Israel Radio that Netanyahu’s words were already coming true, as at least 10 more countries were in talks to move their embassies to Jerusalem.

Hotovely did not go into details about which countries were considering the move, but most expect Honduras to be the next to make such an announcement.

Like Guatemala, neighboring Honduras has grown very close to Israel in recent years, and its president, Juan Orlando Hernandez, spent time in the Jewish state and is a graduate of Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation.

Both Guatemala and Honduras were among the nine nations that voted “no” last week when the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution effectively condemning US President Donald Trump over his Jerusalem decision.
