Some of these politicians have become way too intoxicated with this sudden power they’re brandishing like a club over the heads of their fellow citizens — I’m talking about you, Charlie Baker, and Gina Raimondo in Rhode Island makes two.

Check out the stories from around the country — two (Democrat) governors have taken to threatening physicians and pharmacists who dispense legal anti-malarial drugs to coronavirus victims.

In Michigan, Gov. Gretchen “Half” Whitmer is openly calling for “professional consequences” for any health care professionals who defy her edict, a directive the Detroit News said “deviates into open threats.”

Other Democrats are setting up snitch lines to report “non-essential” businesses.

On Friday night, the mayor of Los Angeles admitted to one of his comrades on CNN that they’re tracking cellphone data to keep tabs on the movements of citizens.

This Democrat has also threatened to cut off electricity and water to any businesses that won’t obey. All of this is going on in a jurisdiction where 1,700 prisoners have been cut loose … and the gun stores have been threatened with shut downs (as in Delaware, by yet another Democrat).

In Laguna Beach, where drones are outlawed for private use, law enforcement are using their drones to enforce “social distancing” on public beaches. In Lakewood, N.J., on Thursday, cops broke up a wedding — per orders of the governor, they claimed.

Closer to home, Tall Deval — or, if you prefer his newer nickname, Charlie Parker — wants to “ramp up” tracking those of us who will not obey his high-handed orders.

Yardbird now demands that everyone coming into the state “self-quarantine” for two weeks. Really? As one of my listeners asked Friday:

“I work in Massachusetts — you know, I pay taxes — and I live in New Hampshire. So do I have to ‘self-quarantine’ every morning for two weeks when I cross the border into Mass?”

Then there’s Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo.

“In a move without precedent in state history,” as the Providence Journal described it, she ordered that “anyone entering Rhode Island from New York state by any means of grounds transportation — passenger vehicle, bus or train — must provide personal information to authorities and self-quarantine for 14 days.”

So … being in an automobile with NY license plates is now considered “probable cause” for a police stop? I have a question: surely this doesn’t apply to illegal immigrants? I mean, after all, Rhode Island is for all intents and purposes a sanctuary state for criminal illegals.

According to the RI state police, New Yorkers who are stopped — citizens, anyway — will be asked their plans.

“If the response is ‘passing through,’ we will send them on their way.”

The paper continued, “Those responding that their destination is somewhere in Rhode Island will be asked for their information and will be ordered to self-quarantine.”

Asked for information? Sounds like something out of an old World War II movie, in which the Nazi guards were always demanding to see “your papers.”

The Rhode Island ACLU pointed out the existence of something called the Fourth Amendment, which prohibits illegal search and seizure, even of taxpaying citizens.

If that’s not enough, let us turn to Article 4, Section 2 of the Constitution:

“The citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States.”

In other words, a New Yorker has as much right to be in Rhode Island as a Rhode Islander.

You may notice that the two New England governors who seem most eager to stomp on their fellow citizens’ rights are the same two who have been desperately trying to impose an unconstitutional gasoline tax on motorists under the guise of “climate change.”

Coincidence?

Down in Virginia, Gov. Ralph “Blackface” Northam is one of many who has banned gatherings of more than 10 people. In the Old Dominion, some deplorables are asking the obvious follow-up question: in addition to proscribing Christian services, will the newly woke Gov. Blackface also be breaking up religious gatherings at, say, mosques?

That’s about as likely, of course, as a Muslim baker being sued for refusing to bake a gay wedding cake.

Just a month ago, most of these same hacks were wringing their hands and calling President Trump a “fascist” or a “dictator.” Now the mayor of LA is organizing vigilante groups in the city’s neighborhoods, calling them, in his best Orwellian speak, “the Safer at Home Business Ambassadors Program.”

Meanwhile, not a single shiftless hack on the Massachusetts state payroll has been laid off, not even at UMass or Massport or at the deserted courthouses. That’s coming next, right, Tall Deval? We’re all in this together, aren’t we? Right? Right?

Referencing stay-at-home order restrictions that are intended to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said on Monday that it’s been “tragic” to see American politicians “behave like dictators.”

“We’ve seen this all across the country,” Gingrich told “Fox & Friends.”

“The governor of Minnesota protected Planned Parenthood but closed churches. Pretty hard to argue that Planned Parenthood is more important than a church or a synagogue. They’re seeing all of these kinds of political games by politicians and I think that they ought to back off,” Gingrich said.

“Americans are adults, Americans can make rational decisions and they ought to engage in social spacing and, if they do that, what’s the beef?”

Meanwhile, tech billionaire Elon Musk, who has emerged as a champion of defying stay-at-home orders intended to stop the coronavirus from spreading, stirred the pot with a cryptic tweet Sunday.

“Take the red pill,” he wrote.

Some followers saw it as a sign that Musk was pushing for the conservative cause. Adviser to the president and first daughter Ivanka Trump later retweeted it, adding the word: “Taken!”

More recently, it’s been slang for people abandoning the ways of liberalism for the values of conservatism. People of all ages and ethnicities posted online videos describing “red pill moments” — personal awakenings that have caused them to reject leftist narratives imbibed since childhood from friends, teachers and the news and entertainment media.

Musk has been vocally critical of government shutdown policies during the global pandemic recently, reopening Tesla’s California plant in defiance of local restrictions there last week.

Tesla’s factory reopened last Monday with Musk practically daring local law enforcement to arrest him. The plant apparently continued operations on Tuesday. Officials backed off Wednesday and announced that the move would be OK, as long as the company followed previously agreed-upon worker safety precautions.

Legal challenges to governors’ coronavirus shutdown orders are piling up nationwide, putting state leaders on the defensive as citizens and businesses itching to get back to normal take their arguments to court — in some cases succeeding at voiding the governors’ actions.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court, for example, struck down Democratic Gov. Tony Evers’ “safer at home” order on the grounds that his administration did not have the power to unilaterally impose the restrictions without the input of the state legislature. Evers Monday gave up his effort to reimpose statewide rules to slow the coronavirus’ spread after it became clear he would not be able to come to an agreement with Republican lawmakers.

“The Republicans made it very clear they don’t believe a statewide approach is the right way to go at this point in time,” he said. “It doesn’t make a lot of sense spending a lot of time doing something we know isn’t going to be successful.”

TRUMP TELLS GOVERNORS FEDS ‘WILL STEP IN’ IN INF GOVERNMENT DISAGREES WITH STATE REOPENING PLANS

Meanwhile, the Oregon Supreme Court Monday night temporarily blocked a lower court order that would have invalidated all of the state’s coronavirus restrictions. A county circuit judge earlier had ruled that Democratic Gov. Kate Brown needed to get the legislature to sign off on her “stay-at-home” order past a 28-day limit. But the state supreme court ruled that the order would stay in place until the tribunal had a chance to fully review the case, which was brought by a group of churches.

Brown slammed the lower court ruling on Monday before the higher court left her restrictions in place, at least temporarily.

“It is irresponsible to dismiss the health risks and science behind our measures to stop COVID-19,” she tweeted. “We would be faced with the prospect of another mass outbreak without the tools that have proven to be effective in protecting our families, neighbors & loved ones from this disease.”

The looming battle in the Oregon Supreme Court comes as a case is pending before a lower court in Illinois that has the potential to invalidate that state’s coronavirus restrictions implemented by Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker. A judge who ruled against Pritzker’s order as it applied to just one state lawmaker will hear arguments Friday in a case that attempts to undo the order in its entirety, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Pritzker, according to the Associated Press, blasted the state lawmaker, Darren Bailey, who was behind the initial successful attempt to invalidate his order — although on a much smaller scale.

“It’s insulting. It’s dangerous and people’s safety and health have now been put at risk,” Pritzker said. “There may be people who contract coronavirus as a result of what Darren Bailey has done.”

ILLINOIS JUDGE RULES AGAINST GOV. PRITZKER’S STAY-AT-HOME ORDER BROUGHT BY GOP LAWMAKER

Meanwhile, California alone is facing at least a dozen lawsuits that include claims that the state has unjustly closed down gun shops and religious services. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is up against a lawsuit from Republicans in her state’s House and Senate over her extension of an already-strict emergency order that has regulated residents’ movement and closed businesses. And Kentucky protesters sued officials including Gov. Andy Beshear, also a Democrat, for allegedly violating the First Amendment by banning mass protests.

A group of Ohio gyms sued Republican Gov. Mike DeWine over his reopening order excluding them from those businesses allowed to operate, but it was subsequently announced that they will be allowed to reopen after all.

The widespread spate of suits shows that with governors taking the lead on the coronavirus crisis — and the federal government and state legislatures largely in the backseat — those who disapprove of the nature of the coronavirus lockdowns see the judiciary as their only option for relief from the orders.

A lawsuit against Maryland Republican Gov. Larry Hogan by a group of businesses in western Maryland, some former military members, Republican state lawmakers, and several religious leaders is pending in the U.S. District Court of Maryland, with the government’s most recent filing coming Monday. The initial complaint in the suit said: “Governor Hogan has, respectfully, gone beyond all necessities of the case and continues to invade the domain of Federal authority and our rights secured by the Constitution.”

The suit also alleges that Hogan’s aides “refused to state Del. [Daniel] Cox would not be arrested for speaking at” a rally against the governor’s orders, citing prohibitions against large gatherings.

Governors have had at least some success fending off legal challenges to their coronavirus restrictions. Earlier this month, the U.S. Supreme Court turned back an application asking it to overturn Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf’s statewide stay-at-home order.
