Ukraine opens weapons sales to cash in on wartime tech boom

Ukraine is opening up exports of its domestically produced arms to Europe, President Volodymyr Zelensky said — as Kyiv looks to capitalize on its wartime technology boom.

The arms race in Ukraine has created many weapons firms that are producing more arms than Kyiv can buy, leading Zelensky to announce Sunday that 10 “export centers” will open across Europe this year to raise much-needed funds for his country.

The Ukrainian president noted that Ukraine’s advanced drones, which have proven successful against Russia’s military, will also be up for sale as European nations begin to increase their defense spending.

Trump vows ‘billions of dollars’ in weapons for Ukraine, ‘secondary tariffs’ on Russia if no peace in 50 days

WASHINGTON — President Trump announced Monday the US will send “billions of dollars” worth of weapons to Ukraine via Washington’s NATO allies — and threatened to impose “secondary tariffs” on Moscow’s business partners in 50 days if no peace is agreed to end the 40-month-old war.

The weapons will include “everything,” Trump said during his meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in the Oval Office — though the president did not immediately reveal specifics.

The White House also did not provide additional information on the specific weapons sent over to Europe.

Trump says Ukraine will receive more weapons after US pause on shipments

Donald Trump has said the US will send more weapons to Ukraine after an announcement last week that Washington would halt some shipments of critical arms to Kyiv.

During a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump said he was “not happy” with Russia’s Vladimir Putin and that Ukraine was “getting hit very hard”.

Trump also indicated the US would send primarily “defensive weapons” to help Ukraine’s war effort.

Among the armaments reported to have been placed on pause last week were Patriot air defence missiles and precision artillery shells. Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky had appealed for the shipments to continue, describing US Patriot systems as “real protectors of life”.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump complained Thursday that the United States provided too many weapons to Ukraine under the previous administration, his first public comments on the pause in some shipments as Russia escalates its latest offensive.

Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One for a flight to Iowa, Trump said former President Joe Biden “emptied out our whole country giving them weapons, and we have to make sure that we have enough for ourselves.”

Air defense missiles, precision-guided artillery and other weapons are among those being withheld from Ukraine.

Trump, who also spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, suggested he wasn’t completely cutting off American assistance to Ukraine.

India offers cheap loans for arms, targeting Russia’s traditional customers

NEW DELHI, April 16 (Reuters) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bid to transform India into a global factory floor has produced billions of dollars of low-cost iPhones and pharmaceuticals. Now he hopes to add missiles, helicopters and battleships to the shopping carts of foreign governments.

The world’s largest importer of weapons after Ukraine is expanding the ability of the state-owned Export-Import Bank (EXIM) to offer long-term, low-cost loans to clients, including those whose political or credit risk profiles may limit their access to two Indian officials and three industry sources.

New Delhi will also sharply increase the number of defense attachés in its foreign missions as part of a new program that will see the government directly negotiate some arms deals, four Indian officials said. India is particularly targeting governments which have long relied on Russia for arms, two of the people said.

WASHINGTON/BRUSSELS, Oct 28 (Reuters) – The U.S. will not impose new limits on Ukraine’s use of American weapons if North Korea enters the fight, the Pentagon said on Monday, as NATO said North Korean military units had been deployed to Russia’s Kursk region.

The North Korea deployment is fanning Western concerns that the 2-1/2-year conflict in Ukraine could widen, even as attention shifts to the Middle East.

It could signal how Russia hopes to offset mounting battlefield losses and continue making slow, steady gains in eastern Ukraine.

“The deepening military cooperation between Russia and North Korea is a threat to both Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic security,” NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte told reporters after talks with a South Korean delegation about the North Korean deployments.

U.S. President Joe Biden said the development was “very dangerous.”

The Pentagon estimated 10,000 North Korean troops had been deployed to eastern Russia for training, up from an estimate of 3,000 troops last Wednesday.

Israeli military says it killed 90 gunmen at Gaza’s Al Shifa hospital

JERUSALEM/CAIRO, March 20 (Reuters) – Israel’s military said on Wednesday it had killed around 90 gunmen and arrested 160 in a raid on Gaza’s Al Shifa hospital, an allegation the Islamist Hamas group denied.

Al Shifa, the Gaza Strip’s biggest hospital before the war, is now one of the few healthcare facilities even partially operational in the north of the territory, and had also been housing displaced civilians.

“Over the past day, the troops have eliminated terrorists and located weapons in the hospital area, while preventing harm to civilians, patients, medical teams, and medical equipment,” the military said in a statement.

It also published the names and photographs of two Israeli soldiers killed in the operation.

Israel’s raid at the hospital began in the early hours of Monday. The military, which published videos of weapons stashes inside the facility, said it had sent in special forces supported by infantry and tanks, based on intelligence that the hospital was again being used by gunmen.

Berlin Confirmed the Authenticity of Spied Recording of German Officers – WSJ

According to the Wall Street Journal, in the leaked conversation, the commander of the German Air Force indicated that Germany had the ability to take out the Kerch Bridge with Taurus missiles.

High-ranking German officials confirmed to The Wall Street Journal the authenticity of a military recording during an online meeting that took place on the commercial, unencrypted WebEx platform.

According to the WSJ, one of the officers joined the conversation from his mobile phone from a hotel room in Singapore.

At a secret online meeting, the German military discussed the possible supply of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine.

According to Bundeswehr officers, the weapons could be used to destroy the Kerch Bridge, which connects Russia with occupied Crimea and has been used to deliver weapons closer to Ukraine for Russia’s ongoing invasion.

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea is apparently moving to sell millions of rockets and artillery shells — many of them likely from its old stock — to its Cold War ally Russia.

Russia has called a U.S. intelligence report on the purchasing plan “fake.” But U.S. officials say it shows Russia’s desperation with the war in Ukraine and that Moscow could buy additional military hardware from North Korea.

The ammunitions North Korea reportedly intends to sell to Moscow are likely copies of Soviet-era weapons that can fit Russian launchers. But there are still questions over the quality of the supplies and how much they could actually help the Russian military.

What will North Korea supply?

Slapped by international sanctions and export controls, Russia in August bought Iranian-made drones that U.S. officials said had technical problems. For Russia, North Korea is likely another good option for its ammunitions supply, because the North keeps a significant stockpile of shells, many of them copies of Soviet-era ones.

North Korea “may represent the single biggest source of compatible legacy artillery ammunition outside of Russia, including domestic production facilities to further supplies,” said Joseph Dempsey, research associate for defense and military analysis at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
