Tom Homan has chilling warning: Mexico massacre is exactly why we need the wall

Retired ICE Director Tom Homan reiterated the urgent need for a southern U.S. border wall amid an escalating number of violent crimes being committed in Mexico.

Homan spoke of the massacre of nine Americans on Monday as innocent mothers and children were ambushed and killed by drug cartel gunfire. The former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director told “Fox & Friends First” on Wednesday that the crime and corruption in the country cannot be handled by Mexican President Obrador alone.

“The Mexican criminal cartels control everything on the northern border of Mexico,” Homan said. “No criminal activity, no alien smuggling, no drug smuggling occurs without the cartels blessing [and] approving the plan.”

In the wake of the brutal murder of the Americans, President Trump called on Mexico to join the U.S. and “wage war” against the cartels until they are wiped “off the face of the earth.”

But in a press conference on Tuesday,  Obrador turned down the offer.

“If the Mexican government can’t protect Americans inside Mexico we may have to take matters into our own hands,” Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., said in response to the Mexican leader’s remarks.

Sen. Tom Cotton said on Fox News the US may ‘have to take matters into our own hands’ in response to Mexican drug cartel massacre of U.S. citizens.

“There’s more to this story than we know,” Homan said, citing his “gut feeling” after 30 years of experience, and asserting that Mexico needs the help of the U.S.

“A lot of the law enforcement in Mexico, a lot of the military are corrupt, Homan said, responding to the record number of deaths in the country over the last few months.

“They need our help, they need our expertise because American investigators, like the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations, they can dismantle these organizations by attacking their transportation infrastructure, attacking their financial infrastructure,” he explained. “Because once you attack their money, you dismantle this organization.”

Homan also contended that the U.S. demand for drugs from Mexico had to be stopped as well, noting that violence is “always going to be part of the drug trade.”

One issue the former ICE director believes is not getting enough attention is what he explained will become another border crisis for the U.S. as the violence in Mexico continues to increase. A determination by the courts that Mexico is no longer a “safe third country” will put an end to the current “Remain in Mexico” policy the Trump administration enacted which has asylum seekers waiting for their day in U.S. immigration court on the Mexican side of the border.

“We’re going to have our border numbers skyrocket again because we can’t hold people in Mexico waiting for their hearings,” Homan explained. “Once the word gets out, you’re going to see the numbers explode” as Mexican nationals will demand asylum in the U.S.

The Trump administration announced a new annual cap on the number of refugees last weekend, sending the left into a meltdown. But, as a conservative commentator and author Michelle Malkin noted in an op-ed in BPR on Wednesday, critics need to “get some perspective.”

“Past refugee admissions don’t lock America into those same levels now or in the future. America’s constitutional duty is to Americans first (‘ourselves and our posterity’),” Malkin wrote. “The truth is that we’ve been generous to a ruinous, open borders fault. Last year, the Federation for American Immigration Reform tallied refugee resettlement costs to taxpayers at nearly $9 billion over five years.”

There is no doubt that if Mexico’s president fails to rein in the cartel violence in his country, Homan’s predictions about a new crisis at the southern U.S. border will likely come to pass.
