Warning Of Global Birth Rate ‘Crisis’ After Study Of 14 Countries
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has warned of a global birth rate crisis after surveying people in 14 countries.
Some 14,000 people were questioned as part of the study, and one in five had not had or did not expect to have the number of children they wanted.
Why It Matters
Countries all over the world are struggling with their birth rates, leaving nations with aging populations, which means fewer working-age people supporting more of the elderly.
For example, America’s fertility rate is now projected to average 1.6 births per woman over the next three decades, according to the Congressional Budget Office‘s latest forecast released this year.
