Patrick Moore, former president of Greenpeace Canada, ripped Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her “crazy” Green New Deal proposal.
In a series of tweets, Moore slammed Ocasio-Cortez, who has called for drastically reducing fossil fuel production, and said the freshman congresswoman doesn’t realize what would happen across the world if the radical plan were implemented.
Moore left Greenpeace after 15 years and is now critical of the group, even writing the book, “Confessions of a Greenpeace Dropout: The Making of a Sensible Environmentalist.” Greenpeace has distanced themselves from Moore and accused him of overstating his past affiliation with them.
On “Hannity” Monday, Moore said Ocasio-Cortez’s plan to get the U.S. off fossil fuels within ten years would be “a suicide pact.”
He explained that more than 80 percent of the United States’ energy comes from fossil fuels, and they are absolutely critical for transporting goods and people.
He claimed the only reason to ban fossil fuels is because of dire warnings about the looming “climate apocalypse” from activists like Ocasio-Cortez.
He lamented that supporters of the Green New Deal have been using children to push their policies, such as when a group of children confronted Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) last month.
“The whole climate change movement has now reverted to using kids as a front for not only climate change and ending the use of fossil fuels but the whole ball of wax about socialism. I think that’s what they’re really trying to sell.”
