Geneva, Oct 26 (Prensa Latina) The World Trade Organization (WTO) on Monday approved a request from the European Union (EU) to impose trade sanctions on the United States for its subsidies in favor of Boeing.

According to the WTO, the penalty will have to reach a maximum value of four billion dollars, proportional to the adverse effects on the European Union between September 2012 and September 2015.

The legal battle between the European community and the United States has a long history, as they accuse each other of benefiting their flag aeronautical companies, Airbus and Boeing, respectively.

That dispute is related to public aids that the United States granted to Boeing and the support for Airbus provided by the governments of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Spain, which both parties consider illegal.
