New SNAP work requirements on the horizon; here’s what to know

Starting on Nov. 1, additional new requirements are going into effect that may impact Pennsylvanian’s eligibility for SNAP benefits.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — More changes are coming to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) following passage of the “Big, Beautiful Bill” earlier this year.

That spending bill created new work requirements and placed limits on how long people can receive SNAP benefits.

Under those new rules, those seeking to be eligible for SNAP benefits must meet SNAP work requirements — they must work, volunteer or participate in an education or training program for at least 20 hours a week (or 80 hours each month).
