Even CNN could not deny the power behind President Donald Trump’s words in his speech commemorating the anniversary of the terrorist attack on America on Sept. 11, 2001.
Trump honored the heroes and victims of 9/11 in his speech while he and first lady Melania Trump visited Shanksville, Pennsylvania where a new memorial was dedicated to the 40 passengers and crew members of Flight 93 who bravely stood against the enemy 17 years ago.
Trump strong remarks and powerful message seemed to move stunned CNN hosts. “Quite a tribute there to the American lives lost, murdered on 9/11,” Poppy Harlow said, speaking to CNN Senior Political Analyst David Gergen.
Harlow quoted one of President Trump’s most notable lines repeating, “They boarded that plane as strangers, and they entered eternity forever, linked as heroes.”
After a brief moment, Gergen collected himself and agreed. “Beautifully written, very thoughtful speech by the president. I think easily one of his best speeches,” he said.
“For a moment, Poppy, one could almost forget the chaos around us, the acrimony, the poison, and come together,” he added. “You can only hope the president will navigate that course again, that he will understand that the kind of speech he gave today brings us back together, and helps in that regard. And that if he will take the and lead the way, maybe we can find our way to a better place as a nation.”
“On September 11, 2001, a band of brave patriots turned the tide on our nation’s enemies and joined the immortal ranks of American heroes,” the president said. “At this memorial, on this sacred earth, in the field beyond this wall, and in the skies above our heads, we remember the moment when America fought back.”
The field marks the location where the plane crashed after passengers and crew decided to take on the terrorists who had hijacked the plane and believed aimed at Washington, D.C. Their bravery thwarted what could have been a more devastating attack if the al-Queda terrorists had accomplished their goal.
The president honored the victims’ families, saying that their “tears are not shed alone, for they are shared grief with an entire nation.”
“We honor their sacrifice by pledging to never flinch in the face of evil and to do whatever it takes to keep America safe,” Trump said. “Free people are never at the mercy of evil.”
“They bravely charged the cockpit. They attacked the enemy. They fought until the very end. And they stopped the forces of terror and defeated this wicked, horrible, evil plan,” Trump said. “Through their sacrifice, the 40 saved the lives of countless Americans and they saved our Capitol from a devastating strike.”
“We will remember their faces, their voices, their stories their courage, and their love,” Trump said. “And we will remember that free people are never at the mercy of evil, because our destiny is always in our hands.
The president’s passionate address even moved the seemingly stunned hosts on CNN who emotionally praised Trump.
