Guantanamo, Cuba, Dec 6 (Prensa Latina) Russian Ambassador to Cuba Andrey Guskov stated in this easternmost Cuban region that his country will continue to support the island’s development plan through collaboration in different economic sectors.

Guskov said that this cooperation is mainly focused on investments in energy development, railroads and the repair of metallurgical plants, in addition to participation in other joint projects with international organizations.

The construction and implementation of a modern desalination plant in the local people’s council of Punta de Maisi, in the Guantanamo municipality of Maisi, is one of the results of that commitment to support Cuba in the political and economic fields, the diplomat said during the official opening ceremony of the plant that will supply water to 1,749 inhabitants of Cuba’s easternmost municipality.

The technological assembly of the plant was undertaken by an Argentine company and cost 384,426 euros, donated by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), with Russian funds.

The investment also required an injection of national capital valued at two million pesos for several civil works, which contributed to the treatment of 17 cubic meters of water per hour through the process known as reverse osmosis.
