Greetings from Tyler,
Everything is about Charlie Kirk, wherever you look. I don’t know what I did, but Charlie’s appearances on college campuses came regularly on my phone, and he was the nicest guy. He didn’t try to embarrass those who came to debate him, he just gave them every out in the world. The guy who killed him still lived at home at 22 years old, and was escorted by his dad to turn himself in. Whatever dynamic was going on in that household, who knows? His Dad and a minister convinced him to turn himself in. But he was a monster, living with his parents. He might get the death penalty.
They’ve turned Charlie Kirk into a martyr. He’ll get far more recognition in death than he did in life. But he left a wife and kids behind, and I’m sure he must have known there were risks. He didn’t have the Secret Service, and I guess the people he did have were not up to the job. Now everybody will want to know what he was saying.
Now there’s another shooter in Colorado, shooting up a school. These lunatics have lost all the arguments, and there’s nothing left to do but start shooting. They certainly can’t convince us all to be crazy like them. I don’t know if that was the motivation for the stupid Colorado shooter, but it wouldn’t surprise me. He was just a kid. But we’re through catering to idiots.
The President is intent on cleaning up our cities, and they need it! Thankfully most of us live where we don’t have to worry about it. But who wants to go to a big city? Scenes we’re seeing on the news are enough to say we don’t even want to go.
Israel hit Qatar with bombing raids and as usual Arabs are crying foul. Netanyahu accused Qatar of granting terrorists safe haven, and said if the Arabs are not going to bring them to justice, Israel will. An article on the internet is saying that intelligence agency Mossad “balked” at the idea, but Netanyahu went ahead. Apparently the missiles in question were fired from a long way off, the officials are saying that innocent civilians were killed, and Israel did not get who they wanted. They’re going after the goons who planned October 7.
We have to wait for a resolution to the wars that are going on. Putin has bombed Kyiv and launched unarmed drones into Polish airspace. NATO made quick work of the drones, but tensions have heightened dramatically in the region.
Trump has sent warships off the coast of Venezuela. It looks like the drug war is about to heat up. Meanwhile, in Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro has been sentenced to 27 years in prison on charges similar to those they attempted to foist on Trump after January 6. There’s hope that he’ll be able to appeal and the US is already threatening to increase tariffs on Brazil.
If we hoped we’d get a rest from the wars, we were wrong.
Mark
