‘You Can See the Photos,’ This Is a Crisis: Pavlich on CBP Warning of ‘Breaking Point’ at Border

Katie Pavlich said photos of hundreds of migrants being held under a bridge in El Paso, Texas, underscore the humanitarian crisis at the southern border.

The Washington Post reported that U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials set up an improvised holding pen in a parking lot beneath a highway overpass to serve as a processing center because they don’t have the facilities to handle the volume of migrants.

On Wednesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin K. McAleenan said the border crisis has hit a “breaking point,” and Congress must come up with a legislative fix.

On “Outnumbered” Thursday, Pavlich said it’s incredibly frustrating to see Congress not act on this humanitarian crisis.

“You can see the photos here, this is absolutely a humanitarian crisis,” she said.

She explained that changing U.S. immigration laws and closing amnesty loopholes would “stop this at its source.”

“When you talk to the Border Patrol agents on the ground there, they’re doing the best that they can to deal with the humanitarian side of this by taking care of children and sick parents, and there’s nowhere else to put them,” Pavlich said. “This is not humane, but this is the only choice that they have.”

She noted that U.S. border authorities are predicting that the number of illegal immigrants stopped at the southern border could reach as high as one million by the end of the year.

“It’s unfair to put Border Patrol and ICE agents into this position, because they’re being accused of being inhumane when Congress isn’t changing the laws that allow them to do their jobs,” Pavlich said.

Democrat Marie Harf agreed that the photos were “shocking,” but said the Trump administration’s policies are not deterring migrants from coming to the border.
