Abbas, Guterres discuss recent Israeli escalations

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with Antonio Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General in New York, on Monday, during which he briefed him on the latest developments in the Palestinian issue, including the recent Israeli escalations in the occupied Palestinian territories.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with Antonio Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General in New York, on Monday, during which he briefed him on the latest developments in the Palestinian issue, including the recent Israeli escalations in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Abbas stressed the need to implement the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council, including in particular resolution 2334 (2016) and providing international protection for the Palestinian people.

Abbas also met with Mar a Fernanda Espinosa Garc s, President-elect of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) and briefed her on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories in light of the continued Israeli escalations and aggression against the Palestinian people, land, and holy sites.

Abbas arrived in New York on Monday to take over presidency from Egypt of the Group of 77 and China during a ceremony to be held at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.
