German military satellite plan raises alarm in EU
Germany’s plans for a €10 billion military satellite network, independent of the European IRIS² project, are worrying some EU lawmakers about fragmentation and duplication of costs.
Germany plans 100 satellites in low-orbit orbit for military use only, while IRIS² aims for 290 satellites by 2029 for a unified space communications system.
Analysts say Germany’s technology resembles Elon Musk’s Starshield platform, used in Ukraine.
